I remember watching Hitchbot on the news here just last year, as he made his 6,000 km journey across Canada starting from Nova Scotia and ending in Victoria, BC. He was quite the celebrity. (You can scroll thru pics near bottom of link below). Hitchbot Canadian Cross-Country Journey

To paraphrase a quote from the movie Field of Dreams:
'If you build it, we will destroy.'

I can't believe that the same city that threw batteries at Santa would harm a robot. I was not at all surprised that it got destroyed in Philadelphia.

It shows where the civilized part of society lives. Very telling.

It shows where the civilized part of society lives. Very telling. Philly, like many cities, is known for its high parts and its low parts. I know per reputation that parts of Philly you really want to avoid. Like the black hole parts of Chicago and parts of Harlem in NYC. Philly also has some very high end areas, including a street, some day I think I want to check out.
Personally I think it has more to do with poverty and what one has to do to survive in certain pockets of our country. Not pretty. At all.

Your symbolism is a little racist.

DH is from Jersey, he haaaaates Philadelphia. He mentioned the Santa thing immediately too when I told him about this, lol. Sigh. We call it Filthadelphia.
(my dad was born/raised in Philly, and he generally hates it too - but I have enjoyed some touristy things there in the past too, so full disclosure I do think there are some good things to see there.)

Your symbolism is a little racist. What symbolism is "a little racist"? Is it using the term 'black hole'? The poster's informal use of the word is appropriate. DEFINITION black hole nounASTRONOMY a region of space having a gravitational field so intense that no matter or radiation can escape. informala place where people or things, especially money, disappear without trace."the moribund economy has been a black hole for federal funds"

Probably, yes. The US seems to be generally more violent than either Canada or Europe. If it hadn't happened in Philadelphia it would have happened somewhere else.

It survived Boston and New York just fine.

If I used that term, I am sure I would have been advised I was being a "little racist". We cannot have it just "one way" on this board. It works both ways.

It's in upper Manhattan.

Probably no longer an acceptable description any more, due to racist depiction.

Ever hear of Spanish Harlem in NY? It's in upper Manhattan. It's my understanding, it is not so Spanish anymore. Probably no longer an acceptable description any more, due to racist depiction. It is not a racist depiction. East Harlem, also known as Spanish Harlem and El Barrio, is a neighborhood of Upper Manhattan, New York City roughly encompassing the area north of the Upper East Side, and East 96th Street and east of Fifth Avenue to the East and Harlem Rivers.[1] It lies within Manhattan Community District 11.[2] Despite its name, it is sometimes not considered to be a part of Harlem.[3]
The neighborhood is one of the largest predominantly Latino communities in New York City, mostly made up of Puerto Ricans, as well as a rising number of Dominican, Salvadoran and Mexican immigrants.[4] It includes the area formerly known as Italian Harlem, in which the remnants of a once predominantly Italian community remain. The Chinese population has increased dramatically in East Harlem since 2000.[5][6][7][8]
East Harlem suffers from many social issues, such as the highest jobless rate in New York City, teenage pregnancy, AIDS, drug abuse, homelessness, and an asthma rate five times the national average.[2] It has the second highest concentration of public housing in the United States, closely following Brownsville, Brooklyn.[9] The area has the highest violent crime rate in Manhattan.[10] Police services to the neighborhood are divided between the 23rd and the 25th Precincts.[11]
East Harlem is notable for its contributions to Salsa music and Hip-Hop. East Harlem

It means that when the robots rise up to destroy us, America is gonna kick their asses. This wasn't vandalism, this was a warning shot to our future robot overlords "Take your mess to Europe and Canada, enslave them, this is 'Merica!"

Your symbolism is a little racist? I've always called parts of Chicago a black hole because its like black holes in the universe. Things go in, but they do not come out. Now if you chose to perceive that in a totally different racist way, I think you should own how your mind works instead of trying to blame me for something I did not intend. Physics - not racist. WTF! I wrote a nice post and it went crap. Ack, now I see somehow VB's quote got tossed, and my post is attributed to him. What's going on? Cloudflare server melt down? Virgil? Something else?
Really unamused by this.

Will take the iconic photo of our time, Hoops with fist raised surrounded by robots with his one shoe visible in one robot's hand. Die well, Hoops! I will record it. <--- guy who will be recording sound, if it is safe to create a YouTube video.
