Question, will your practice be able to support one more staff person if the real estate work dropped by 50%? I think that home sales are going through a growth spurt and I wonder how long it will last. If the business goes away, can you quickly let go of any excess staff and take away their pay checks? Or are you going to agonize over laying people off and take income out of your pocket to keep them on your payroll as long as absolutely possible?
Is there any other way to acquire the labor resources wthout putting that person on your payroll? Maybe helping someone else set up their own business that provides your office (and maybe others) with some specialty services, such as the real estate stuff, that you need? You might even rent them space in your office to help them get started (my attorney BIL and SIL rent office condo space and provide phone answering, copier, and some other support services to several other attorneys).

I have an office for rent. No takers yet.
I don't know if the RE business will continue to justify hiring another person. My secretary/assistant is more like a real estate paralegal, so I actually would want to hire someone with estate knowledge.
