So Random Set-Up Guy (guy that got my number from his friend that I was talking to on a dating site) texted me this morning. Mind you I haven't texted him since last week and he hadn't texted me either. I thought I was in the clear as I do not want to meet him. So instead of ghosting him, I decided to tell him that I'm having some issues with my ex and it isn't a good time. He then responds saying that he's really patient but he's still interested. I then said that I don't know when this will all blow over and I just need to focus on my son and getting myself situated. I think I'm in the clear now.... no. He comes back asking if we can still talk and that we shouldn't write anything off, that he'd still love to take me out.  I feel like any normal person would have gotten the hint by now. Is there anything else I should add as a last ditch effort to be a decent person before I ghost him for good? |

Say I'm sorry but that's not going to happen. If you're not interested just say it or stop talking to him. All your other messages said "once the ex stuff blows over we'll go out"

Personally I would go with just a polite no thank you. But I haven't had a first date type of interaction in more years than I want to count let alone post.  |

All your other messages said "once the ex stuff blows over we'll go out"  This is why sometimes it is better to be direct & just say you're not interested. Using your ex or your current situation as an excuse makes him think that you are still interested, but now is not a good time. |

Mixed signals isn't a hint. And no you don't think you reply is mixed but then the guy does. And some people just don't take hints - just be direct. Personally I hate "hints" just friggin say what you mean. |

I agree with you guys, but if I was really interested I would have reached out. I had ample time to do so. I admit I hate when people aren't direct with me but for some reason I have a hard time being direct with people. Especially strangers. People are crazy.

You have a kid. It's real easy for the guy to tell himself she's just busy with her kid. Just like women say oh he's just working long hours at work. Etc etc.
Eta The only hint that's eventually gotten is if you just never reply. I'll do that with people I've never met.

I guess I've learned to be extra attuned to "hints" - especially when it comes to me and dating. If a guy is interested, he makes it known. If I am the one who has to constantly reach out/plan stuff, then I'm more interested than he is. And that's when I pull back. I don't care how much I think I like someone, I'm not chasing after anyone anymore.

I didn't answer and haven't heard anything else. When someone was trying to tell me to "get lost", I never kept on trying to talk to them unless it was someone I had a strong relationship with. I would NEVER press someone I had never met as to why they didn't want to talk to me anymore. I learned the hard way to not expect that much out of people, especially in new interactions. Not many people owe me their presence or an explanation for their absence.
