The government does not care about freedom or what is right. And they damn sure don't care about costs of what they do.

I have no idea what you are saying?
In #1 they were fined for breaking anti-discrimination laws. Ie. Because they broke the law. Not because someone was offended.
In #2... ??.... What are you saying?

Actually the Supreme Court in #2 said that homeowners should have a right to a hearing if being threatened with fines for non compliance... ?
And in #1 the party who broke the law was fined.

Did a little Internet digging around regarding oldcoyote's second example (EPA case) and found this little tidbit regarding the plaintiff in the EPA case. Not a very nice man. Maybe building his dream home is delayed. Idaho man pleads guilty to attempted child sex trafficking An Idaho man arrested in the fall of 2013 as part of a federal sex-trafficking sting pleaded guilty Monday to a charge of luring an underage girl to North Dakota for sex work.
Michael Sackett entered his plea to an amended charge on Monday, one day before he was scheduled to go to trial. He could receive up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The original charge, attempted sex trafficking of children, carried a potential life sentence.
Details concerning the allegations against Sackett remain sealed. However, the plea agreement states that Sackett "did knowingly attempt to persuade, induce, entice and coerce an individual (Sackett) believed had not attained the age of 18 years."
Sackett previously rose to prominence as an outspoken critic of the Environmental Protection Agency over the designation of his Priest Lake, Idaho, property as a federally protected wetland. That battle went to the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled in Sackett's favor in 2012. Idaho man pleads guilty to attempted child sex trafficking

Gladly: #1: discrimination but fine seems stiff #2: 'model' citizen's effort to build secluded home delayed by EPA 2° to failure to comply with permit process. Now why would a sex offender trying to get underage girls to work in sex trade want a cabin in the woods??

#1 the bakery was providing a service to public and did not have any posting/advertising excluding certain customers. I can deny my services to somebody if I choose to but for a good reason such as "the customer wants me to do impossible things" But not because of gender, race, faith or sexual orientation. There is a law!!! #2 Sackets past as a "sexual predator" of sorts has no bearing on him wanting to build a house. Not having the proper permits to build a house on a specific site is the important factor. He had full knowledge of the fact that his piece of land contains a portion that falls under the Clean Water Act. He just chose to disregard it. It is similar to willingly driving thru a red light while the cop is waiting right there: you just ignore the laws and rules. For that there are repercussions. True that CWA is sometimes overreaching or overbearing and many other over but until the Congress takes action as to amende/change it, it remains the law therefore needs to be respected. There is also the option of obtaining variances from the rules and laws but for that you have to apply and get them. They, the Sacket's opted for "it is easier to apologize after the fact than to ask permission" version and it turns out that was the wrong approach. And yes, EPA might be that Socialistic evil entity driven by crazy liberal ideology and such but I'll take that over the "let's shoot wolves out of a helicopter" plan that is offered by the counterpart(read nonsense idiotic conservative ideology!) At least with the crazy liberals we stand a good chance to have something left to enjoy about 50 years from now!

These two cases seem similar to me.
1) Bakers decided they wanted to discriminate against certain customers, which is illegal, so they faced the consequences. 2) Home owner decided to develop property he should have known was protected wetland, which is illegal, so he faced the consequences.
If you don't like a particular law, like having the government dictate whether or not you can build a house on your own property, then work to change the law. Don't violate the law and then bitch that you lost money and years defending yourself.

You mean like all those people bitching about incarcerating drug users/dealers? You know, the dozens of people that broke the laws but were then recently commuted by Obama?
