I guess God was testing him
Edgar Nernberg dug up five 60-million-year-old fish while he was excavating a basement in Calgary, Washington Post says. A fossil collector himself, he notified experts about his finding without knowing how important it may be.
However, he’s not ready to embrace the fact that the fossil might be that old. “No, it hasn’t changed my mind. We all have the same evidence, and it’s just a matter of how you interpret it,” Nernberg said in an interview with the Calgary Sun. “There’s no dates stamped on these things.”
I didn't know Canada had these folks.

Sure we do, especially out west in Cowboy Country. There are even "science" textbooks pushing creationism.

In the face of evidence that he, himself, unearthed... Wow.
Head... exploding.

I've been thinking about this for years.
I wonder... do "young Earth Creationists" believe that carbon dating is flawed and giving a false age... or do they think God put all this older stuff in the Earth just to trick/test people?

Fair point.
Their thinking is illogical as hell... but you make a fair point.
ETA: Man would have made a tasty snack... or good toothpicks... for dinosaurs.

Their doctrine is God could create Earth in any particulare state

I had a discussion with a creationist friend quite a view years back and he said that God created the dinosaurs at the same time he created everything else, but the dinosaurs, and everything else that we find fossil remains for, are the things that didn't get on the ark when the great flood occurred.
He also said that when God created the earth, it was inside an enormous ice ball that protected it and allowed his creations to flourish. Then, disgusted with how men were behaving, he allowed the giant ice ball to melt, which caused the flood. Later, he allowed the poles to get cold, turning some of the water back into ice again, which let the water recede enough to let some of the land be exposed again.
I brought up carbon dating and he said that was made up. I brought up that the ark couldn't have been big enough for all the plants and animals and insects of the world to fit in, and he said the ark was the size of a city and could have fit everything on it.
I think that was the last time I discussed creationism with anyone. It hurt my head.

I've always thought it must be very comforting to have all of the great mysteries of life wrapped up in a pretty package.

Did your friend ever offer an explanation how the koalas of Australia got to the Middle East to get on the boat and how they got back home once the flood was over?

The conversation didn't progress to that point, but I'm guessing maybe they rode on the backs of whales? If Noah could keep the lions and tigers from dining on the elephants and antelopes for 40 days and 40 nights, he could have commanded the whales to act as taxis.

The koalas, wallabies, dingoes, platypuses and kangaroos rode INSIDE the whales, like Jonah.

I grew up with the belief of creationism. And still believe it to an extent. Who's to say it wasn't true? And who says God didn't ordain evolution and guide it through the evolution of man? All that matters is that we are here now. No one honestly knows how we go there for sure. Its what we do now and going forward that matters. Why argue about a past that we don't even have a definitive proof of?

Common statement is who is to define a day? 24 hrs, how many minutes in the early stories of our ancestors

Common statement is who is to define a day? 24 hrs, how many minutes in the early stories of our ancestors I've heard this. The 7 "days" of creation in Genesis were really 7 periods of time.
I went to church with a lot of the Ken Hamm supporters. There really was no room for discussion on this at all. It's sad because I believe that science is a tool we were given to understand the Earth and I find it completely fascinating.

Actually, ArchietheDragon, the concept of a 'day' was just a way of saying b4 and after to those in a time with no idea about evolution. Gays are still gay and not an aberation
