During my many years of employment I have learned 2 rules.
Rule #1 ........ the boss is always right
Rule #2 ........ if the boss is ever wrong, refer to rule #1

To make a very long story short. The beginnings happened long before I got there
A yr and half ago the extremely popular production manager left the company and the guy that took his place did things his way. Three 'ladies' actively didn't go along with the changes. One was fired very early two days ago, and today was another's last day. She quit and is glad to be gone.
The 3rd lady is still here and very quiet.

It sucks but there are really only two things to do other than getting fired. Either keep your head down and go along with it, or get a new job.

Grrrrrrrrr I try not to think of it that way. I think of it as "It all pays the same." My company rents my time - 40 hours per week. If they want me to do something the wrong way or work on the wrong priorities or do the same thing over again, whatever - I still get paid - the same amount. I recall one time when I was at a manager level, I spent 3 weeks doing data entry. I was incredibly over paid for a data entry clerk - but that is what they needed at the time. Cheaper to divert/excuse me from my normal duties than to have me keep working and hire a data entry person. Whatever - I knew it was temporary. I don't have to give myself that pep talk that often - but when I need it - it gets me through the meeting/day/project whatever.

I have a bad attitude about work. I no longer particularly care. I'll do my job and do it well, but I'm not going above and beyond and getting myself worked up over things I can't control.
I finally decided I shouldn't care and worry about things more than the person who is paying my wages, or the client who is paying all of our wages. Neither of them care to move things along or streamline things, and I'm getting paid the same and getting the same results regardless as to how much stress I put on myself.

My boss is wrong a lot, she knows she's wrong a lot, my job is to correct her before anyone important knows how often she is wrong.

There are two choices when change happens, and change always happens. Change along with it or don't. And managers don't like managing people who are fighting change.

Grrrrrrrrr IDK, I don't work with life threatening stuff - just $$$$$$$ -- which threatens the 'life' of my employers business... but most $$$$$ errors are 'fixable' where if someone dies or gets really hurt - it's something that can't be 'fixed'. .... So I don't always have the same ethical/safety issues to be concerned about... That said, I agree with Rule #1 - the boss is always right. But, there are often lots of ways to get the boss to make the "Right" decision. There are ways to convince a boss that what you want them to do IS the Boss's idea and what the Boss really wants. ::sigh:: But sometimes there's more involved than just the boss's opinion. As for your Rule #2 - it's not so much a boss being 'wrong' as maybe a boss being unfair or unjust. Odds are the boss is making the 'right' decision for the employer/business... it just has results that feel unfair or unjust. To quote the Princess Bride - Life isn't Fair. Sometimes you (generic you here...) just have to acknowledge that and base your decisions on that (versus decisions based on how you think life should work).

My direct boss is awesome. My indirect boss (owners son) is a horses ass who is always wrong and is convinced he's right. He's basically an idiot. It used to really get to me, because I was practically biting my tongue off trying to keep quiet. Then I realized the worst he could do was fire me- and I was ok with that. So now I just flat out tell him he's wrong and why. I do it respectfully, but I do it. Yeah- he hates me. But he also knows he needs me. I've also learned to talk over his head. That usually shuts him up faster. and Yeah- my boss thinks it's funny. But he has to deal with him too- so he knows how he is. I would hate to have to listen to all the crap my boss does- because I know he gets a lot more than me.

When someone new comes in they are going to do it their way. You either get on board or you move on. As long as the changes are not unethical or cause massive amounts of unnecessary work for the group I am not really sure why people care. You are being paid to do a job so you either do it or you don't. If you no longer like the atmosphere or the overall way a new person is running things then you look for another job.

Don't know except by hearsay. The old manager had people doing a production job from start to finish, from preliminary assembly to packing for shipping.
The new manager has other people doing the prelim assembly and packing for shipping. The main testers are doing programing and testing.
It's a change.

Yeah, work was pretty rough for me today too. I'm trying to calm down and remember that if no one else cares about approaching deadlines, then I shouldn't be worried about it either. I get paid either way.

My boss has taken up lying on a daily basis. While I technically am still employed, I'm choosing not to accept the new premise of his management.

If your job isn't to change the culture, then your job is to fit into the culture. Some work places are very buttoned up. SOme are more casual. You have to kind of navigate through that. For instance, there are workplaces that will fire people for looking at their cell phones at work or surfing the net, etc. You have to be very careful with that sort of thing.

My PT job gives me more grief than my real one. I knew all places had a culture but man is this different! It even seems to have it's own math. Some of the workers who have been there a long time get time and a half for working on Sunday. The newer contracts don't so I get the same hourly rate as any other day of the week. I don't mind working Sunday but some people acting like it is a gift to me is a little annoying. The math part is is isn't calculated as part of your week for things like overtime. So this week the store is a mess for scheduling. A bunch of employees got temp switched to other stores for the summer. My store doesn't do that for who knows what reason.. The hire a bunch of teens to work PT in the summer. Which wouldn't be that bad if we lived in a state that school was out but we don't so they are all still in school for another month. So the schedule is tight already. The number of people who are checker trained isn't really big to begin with. Then smaller still are self check out trained and CSR. I actually can do all three but would rather someone poke my eyes out than do CSR. Well this week the schedule had a mistake on it. One cashier was scheduled for 8 hours yesterday that had asked for the day off weeks ago. We go through the entire store schedule and of the checker trained people there was literally one person who wasn't working that day already. Guess who? So since I have a low tolerance for begging I agree to do it if they got someone to take my Wednesday which turned out wasn't possible. I'm shocked! But I said okay I would do it even though that would have me going six days in a row there. They ended up having call outs on top of that so even with me yesterday we were short two people up front. So yesterday the mgrs finally realized I was there six days and had a total hissy fit because they didn't realize it meant overtime hours. Well first of all I don't get over time and am the lowest paid person in the place basically, but second of all what about the only choice was have no one cover that shift. For the record it was an 8 hour shift and the schedule was light handed to begin with before the add'l call outs. So I told the Co-mgr(aka ast mgr in the non gc world) and the front end mgr that I could solve that no problem, I just don't come in the rest of the week. The front end mgr said that wasn't funny for some reason.
