I am currently reading The Fifteen Lives of Harry August on the Paperwhite that I got for Christmas. It's an okay book so far, and I like the Paperwhite - doesn't hurt my eyes like the Kindle app on the iPad. I'm not as into it because...
I am currently listening to Career of Evil by Robert Galbraith. It is the third in the Cormoran Strike series - detective/murder/mystery. Robert Galbraith is the pseudonym of JK Rowling. I have really enjoyed the stories and have sped through these audiobooks in less than a month (listening while driving, baking Christmas cookies, at night after the kid is in bed, etc.). Highly recommend!

I'm about to start The Witches (Salem, 1692) on my flight to FL tomorrow morning. that time period has always fascinated me, and this seems to be a pretty in-depth exploration of it all. it's almost 500 pages and hardcover, so yah. pour me a couple drinks (I hate flying) and I'll be good to go.

I finished listening to Pretty Baby. Did not like it as much as The Good Girl. Should have read that one, as the writing was repetitive and overdone at points and I could have gone faster reading. Not a bad story, just took too long to get there on the audio.

Find A Way, the autobiography of marathon swimmer Diana Nyad. Thrilling, inspiring and yet horrifying all at once. Her childhood and teenage years were a nightmare of abuse at the hands of her father and swim coach. But she survived and showed that the victim label was one she would never wear.

This new job gives me lots of time for reading, and with today off, I neglected most of my housework... I finished Full Dark, No Stars and am just a few pages from the end of The Long Walk (also a gift from DS). After that I need to get back to The Shining.

I'm listening to The Way Station and the kids and I are finishing up Ready Player One. We are reading Anthem together, and I'm reading some Sandra Brown novel, but not really... I need to finish 5th wave before the movie comes out too...

The one King wrote under the pseudonym Richard Bachman? It is both excellent and horrifying, so....vintage King. I just finished re-reading the whole Harry Potter series, since it was available on Kindle Unlimited, which was free for a 30 days trial. While I've often thought Order of the Phoenix, Book 5, is the funniest of the series, I just now noticed it also has the most bullying of all of the books. Random observation.

Book 5 is the only one I hate to reread. Umbridge is truly the only completely evil one in those books.

Book 5 is the only one I hate to reread. Umbridge is truly the only completely evil one in those books. 5 has always been my least favorite of the series. Rowling made a comment after writing GoF (#4) that she was incredibly stressed trying to meet the deadline for the book, and chose not to operate on a deadline for 5. Well, after reading 5 I wanted to put her back on a deadline, because it was such a disappointment after 4, which has always been one of my favorite books in the whole series. It is probably the second-best book behind Deathly Hallows overall, imo. Umbridge is truly evil, though, which is what makes her such a terrific character. I love the whole idea of Dumbledore's Army, and it is the book where Neville shows out, so it has some redeeming qualities. Harry's mixture of self-pity and anger, though, is a complete beating in that book.

I'm reading The Swarm, by Frank Schatzing. Really good. I like it because it's very scientific and a thriller, combined. I not that deep into it yet, but I feel like I'm learning everything there is to know about deep sea drilling projects, subsea methane, and whale behaviour. It's a big book, almost 1,000 pages, and an international bestseller. -----------------
Whales begin sinking ships. Toxic, eyeless crabs poison Long Island's water supply. The North Sea shelf collapses, killing thousands in Europe. Around the world, countries are beginning to feel the effects of the ocean's revenge as the seas and their inhabitants begin a violent revolution against mankind. At stake is the survival of the Earth's fragile ecology—and ultimately, the survival of the human race itself.
The apocalyptic catastrophes of The Day After Tomorrow meet the watery menace of The Abyss in this gripping, scientifically realistic, and utterly imaginative thriller.

Read "Becoming Madame Mao" last weekend (no kids, so I have this luxury). It is a cross of biography and fiction about the life of Chairman Mao's spouse. As someone who has been intrigued by the Cultural Revolution in China since I learned about it, I will admit that this held a lot more interest for me than someone who isn't interested in that particular time period in China. Basically, if you are curious about the Cultural Revolution in China, this book is a great read. If you aren't, I can't see how it would hold your interest.

The Swarm looks great! It's not available in audio in English? I'll look at library...

Just finished The Short Drop by Matthew Fitzsimmons. A solid read, nothing too deep, and a little predictable. Got it off Kindle Unlimited, and worth what I paid for it.

Finished The Country of Ice Cream Star the other day. Good characters, great world building, she invented her own dialect for the characters and it's fabulous. Plot, though, not so much. You can see my full review of it by following the link.

I love the Bachman books. Good luck finding Rage though, unless your library has it in some form or other. It's out of print.

I am old enough to remember when Rage was a terrific story, and not a prophetic vision of when kids would bring guns to schools to start 'settling' their issues.

Only tangentially related, but did you watch Maos Last Dancer? No, but I just googled it and it gets above a 7 on IMDB. I am going to check it out. Thanks!

Kindle - still on the Fifteen Lives of Harry August. Putting it off because...
Paperback - Ready Player One. Really enjoying it
Audiobook - The Night Circus. It's ok so far.
HP - OOTP is the most emotion-controlled book and that shows in how angst-ridden everyone is. 15 is a tough age. I like DH, HBP, then OOTP. POA is my next fave because I love Sirius.

Just finished The Girls of Atomic City by Denise Kiernan (full review here). It's a great non-fiction book that tells the story of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the place that enriched the uranium used in the atomic bomb.

I may have a copy of Rage buried on the bookshelf or closet. As I reorganize things I'll have to keep a lookout for it.

Just finished the Gold Coast by Nelson Demille, and started on the sequel - but the name escapes me at the moment and I'm too lazy to go upstairs and Look . The Gate House - you should listen to the audio - the narrator is great!

I managed to force myself to finish Scarlett, and I suppose it's OK for some people. It isn't one I will try to read a second time.
Right now I'm reading 'Is Paris Burning?' If you are interested in WWII in Europe, it is interesting.

I'm currently reading The Green Mile by Stephen King.
I haven't gotten too far into it yet but I hear it's awesome and I love Mr. King!
I'd say the King and Queen for Authors for me are
Queen Rowling and King King >.> lol
