Reading this thread made me realize I'm not the only one with a loooooong bucket list. And yes, writing a book is on it too. (I just haven't decided if it will be a children's book for my someday grandkids, or something for the adults.) Lots of travel all over the US, and then the world (Australia, Europe, Africa). I'd like to do something to challenge myself physically too, like hike the Adirondack Trail, or something like that. Also, more time to do crafts & fun stuff! My parents denied themselves of too many good things in their old age. I won't spend carelessly, but I'd like to have more fun than I thought they did.

For the writers, books can be self-published on the internet. A cookbook is probably the easiest. A lot of the sites have a minimum number you can print but it's low. Maybe in the 10 range. Some of the sites help with the cover and illustrations.
Our community college has a course in novel writing. The family geneology can easily be done. It's fun to read about what people did in their lives and you have a ready made marketing target of your family. The difficult part is getting people to give you their information.
I'm a tag-a-long on my DH's bucket list. He says it was my idea because I did a lot of the financial planning in a separate fund. I gave up on catching a marlin (fish not football player) as the quest cost too much. I will be able to see a newly hatched hummingbird on the posted video cam in a couple of weeks.
ETA: Busymom, A Walk In The Woods by Bill Bryson is about the AT.
