We were just discussing that we need vitamins D B12 Iron Calcium...etc in dosages that are like 2000mg of vitamin D daily! Plus all the rest of it. My question is - if I am going to get on that list of vitamin takers - wouldn't I be loading myself with tons of it and is it even safe? Because multivitamins do not seem contain so much of everything we need daily.
Also I agree with liquid version of vitamins. But do they all come in liquid form or just some?

Your best source of vitamins is in a good diet. The vast majority of vitamins wind up in the sewer system because they do not fully absorb into the body.
It's one thing if you have an established deficit that you need to address, that's one thing...but most don't. But the advertisers have sure managed to make us feel we are and many bite.

Your best source of vitamins is in a good diet. The vast majority of vitamins wind up in the sewer system because they do not fully absorb into the body. It's one thing if you have an established deficit that you need to address, that's one thing...but most don't. But the advertisers have sure managed to make us feel we are and many bite. I had mentioned to someone that vast of vitamins goes to a toilet. I was told that body absorbs all its needed and the rest goes in toilet. Still unsure.

I take Vitamin D and calcium together (better absorption for the calcium) for slight bone degeneration in the hip. Seems to be helping, along with weight-bearing exercises (lunges, side-lunges and squats). Will know for sure on the next bone scan.
I take turmeric to ease muscle/joint inflammation (the hip issue and some arthritis in my toes; also seems to be working)
Omega-3 fish oil and niacin to lower cholesterol (Jury's out on this; blood tests are in June).
Vitamin C (stupid co-worker who comes in sick regularly).
Multi-vitamin

I take Vitamin D, and Biotin. Both recommended by my doc for the hair loss issue.

I throw two of those Halo tangerines in my lunch every day. Have for years. I think I get about 3X my daily recommended level of vitamin C from those and lots of potassium too.

I told you in your other thread that some vitamins don't go in the toilet. They're fat-soluble and accumulate in your system, where they can cause a lot of damage. I see it went right over your head.

At the risk of being booed off the board I will admit that I don't take any vitamins. Only time I took vits was prenatal vits. Boo. Hey, it's a personal choice. I do it because my eating habits are not spot-on perfect every day, and I work out every day. A little extra insurance is a good thing. Does it assure me of a long life? Nope; genetics play a decent-size role in that as well, as do other things, like exercise and other lifestyle habits.

The only time I ever did was right after my surgery and I could only manage to eat about 500 cal/day (the antibiotics really did a job on my stomach). Even then, I tried to make every one of those 500 calories count nutrition-wise.

I only take vitamins when dieting and I think of it and have water handy and feel like it. I know it would be better to take them all the time but I just don't. My ex was a big believer in vitamins so got each kind individually and wanted me to take them too. He knew there was no way I was going to open all those bottles and get out pills so he would fill little paper cups with about 10 vitamins and bring me one with a cup of water everyday. I seem to do fine without them.

Do some research on how to balance D3 and calcium so you don't over take it. One type of D3 is better absorbed. The brand I take is from Sam's Club and had 800 IU D3 and 600 calcium. My multi provides the remainder.
Also check the multiple vitamin against your eye vitamin to see if there is too much overlap. There will also be an overlap of D3 and calcium in with your multi. I alternate days with the multi and the eye vite.
Over dosing on vitamins because of the overlap can cause a lot of health problems as I found out.
The iodine in your multi vitamin can be a cancer preventative.

I just posted that I take D 3 @ 5000IU and B12 @ 1000mcg. My PCP is happy with the blood test results. She wasn't happy with the calcium readings the past few months, so little by little the calcium has been eliminated. The calcium readings were too high. I now take none. I also do not take a multi as that was adding to calcium levels.

We have been trying to find the right blend of vitamins and I found some chewable vit c from Traders Joes along with a vit d/calcium/magnizium that we love! I take three of the vit c's a day and have found that my skin is looking so much better and I have felt better too. DH also takes glucosamine and tumeric as well. I have a couple others I take on occasion, but the vit c seems to be the best right know. Also b12!

I take a multi-vitamin daily and have for many years. I have a tendency to forget to eat if I get involved in something so the supplement may help some. I take D3 in the winter but don't take it in the summer when I can get outside in the sun. I also take B Complex. Those, and a beta-blocker I take for essential tremor, are all I take. No other medications as I don't have any chronic illnesses. I can't take Vitamin C over the amount provided by the multi-vitamin. It will make me sick (vomiting). I drink orange juice often, so I probably have plenty and just don't need more.
