I was pretty much a lurker at the old MSN boards, posted there a few times under a different name and scattered throughout the years.
Anyway, I always thought one of the most interesting things to read on the old boards were just random people who stumbled in from the internet with their tales of financial problems and need advice.
I assume this board isn't going to attract alot of that and the people who post here are at least aware of doing personal finance the right way, at least in theory.
So what are these boards going to be like? Just debating the same 'old' topics like tipping, mortgage payoff vs investment, etc?
How do we keep it interesting?

interesting question how new recruits will be found, otherwise it could get stagnant. MSN did featured articles which brought many into the message boards. Good thread topic saver74! I'll be interested in what others have to say about this.

I'm hoping some of the bloggers will "plug" us every now and then. Don't know how else we'd do it.

I'd be willing to randomly ask stupid money-related questions, if that would help. (grin)

Me too! Whatever I can do to help ;D I like to play the dumb chick, occasionally... as long as it's not forgotten that I do have a fully functioning brain, we'll all get along!

I think I will create some Hubs on HubPages about us. That should send us some new blood from time to time.

You want WCP to come over. And Horatio. And TLoony. They have the interesting thread starting talent.

Horatio & Loony are here. I think WCP wrote that he was going to go hang out with the Glenn Beck/Rush Limbaugh types somewhere, although I hope to see him back telling everyone how to make money with Section 8 real estate soon.

There are several bloggers on the WIRR/Grocery challenge thread. Maybe they can/will post a link on their blogs. Also, Donna has posted in Smart Spending here so maybe on her personal blog or for her other blog writings.......if it does not affect her status w/msn.

We could become article-linking whores. It would give us something to talk about.

I won't tell anyone IRL or via Facebook about this page. That defeats the whole anonyomous thing. If I wanted people to know who I am, I would join under my real name.
Getting your word out is much harder than it sounds. I'm very concerned that this board has a limited lifespan.

Well if this experience is anything to go by, they all do. But with over 600 members we might have a day or two before we have to worry about it.

Oh sorry - I didn't know I wasn't allowed to have a differing opinion. Right now this place seems like a "Yes Man" board.

Hey thyme head over to the Politics boards for plenty of disagreement ....the YM board is still in its infancy and I'm the thread starter here and as I mentioned everyone on this board as at least an idea how to handle personal finance, true disagreement comes from people who are less educated or even ignorant on the subject. As far as I can tell no one who is 'bad with money' in their current life has posted on this board yet

I share some of Thyme's concerns. However, I believe that it will be picked up by word of mouth.

I wonder how many new members we got at the old boards through word of mouth?
Or better yet, what percentage of new members came via word of mouth / blog, etc, vs. through an MSN link?

I know I found the old board many moons ok by an article that MP Dunleavy about her financial situation at the time and how hard it was to make it financially in NYC at least thats my memory, from there there was a link to the WIR in board, while WIR wasn't my style YM fit what I was interested in pretty well.

i came to the msn money board by accident, late one night with nothing to do i clicked on some random article that was talking aboutmoney then there was the area for community. i read posts got interested and kept coming back. until i started reading msns money boards i got most of my money ideas from readers digest magazine. i knew nothing of emergency funds , didnt know what heloc stood for and was entirely ignorant of any money saving ideas. i believe i have come along way and hope this new board stays around awhile.
