She took personal tragedy and made the world worse. It was bad what happened to her husband. Her response to it was bad. She tried to make the world a less free place. People mocked and laughed at Charlton Heston's illness and death, so save the platitudes about talking ill of the dead, please. www.cnn.com/2015/04/03/politics/sarah-brady-death/index.html

Sarah Brady is the wife of James Brady. James Brady was the Press Secretary for Ronald Reagan and was with him when Regean was shot. Brady was shot in the head but survived, however he was never the same. He and his wife became very anti-gun and fought for years to increase gun laws in the US.

And hickle, how did she try to make the world a less free place? Just because she lobbied for more stringent gun laws?

Just who are these "people" who mocked and laughed at Charlton Heston's illness & passing? Or are you just throwing his name out there since he was once president of the NRA?
Ms Brady was lobbying to make the country a safer place. May she rest in peace.

I never heard anybody mocking or making fun of Charlton Hestons death. But if somebody did its in poor taste and doing it to somebody else doesn't equal things out. I can't say that I'm a fan of gun control laws in general, but she certainly had the right to lobby for tightening the laws, and have to respect her for having the courage to take up an issue like that even if I disagree with her. I did not mock or make fun. I said she made the world a worse place. I think she used a personal tragedy to garner sympathy for political views. Above is just one example of people mocking Heston. I think Saturday Night Live did too. And it was a common refrain in debates on gun rights back when he was alive.

How exactly did she make the world a worse place?
As for Clooney, his comments weren't so much aimed directly at Heston and his illness - they were aimed at the NRA.
He later sent a written apology to Mr Heston for using an awards show as a political platform (something more actors should do).
As for Liz Smith, I wouldn't put to much credence in anything she wrote. She was basically a "Celebrity Gossip Columnist" who added her own spin to any new "juice" coming out of Hollywood.
She would have been well-suited for the National Enquirer.

I can't say that I'm a fan of gun control laws in general, but she certainly had the right to lobby for tightening the laws, and have to respect her for having the courage to take up an issue like that even if I disagree with her. Not to mention dealing with Jim Brady's health struggles every day of his life until he passed away. Before the shooting, they had a normal, if hectic life with him as a very important and well-known government official. The damage done to him changed him - and her - forever. Anyone who has had to live with someone dealt that kind of physical blow can attest to how hard the day-to-day living can be. There were many things Jim Brady had to relearn to do for himself. And many things he never could do again. That's where Sarah stepped in. OK, I'll grant you that they had help from therapists, nurses and caregivers, no doubt. And lucky them for having that help. But not-so-lucky them for having to deal with it in the first damned place. Regardless of anyone's feelings on gun control, the Bradys deserved better. He did not ask to be the target of a bullet. She did not ask to be thrust into the national spotlight. Both of them dealt with it. I hope both of them are together again in peace.
