My FB feed is flooded with all kinds of "awareness" days. Is there a person on planet who doesn't know that there are such things as cancer and autism and Down syndrome? Really??

If you mean posts where you are supposed to repost if you support whatever including "Love your daughter" and "I hate Mondays," then I am with you.
But the awareness days where people wear a certain color don't bother me. I do think those of us without family members or close friends with the various issues forget. So sufferers become invisible to some extent.
But remember that I come from an environment where you wear a certain color EVERY Friday to show your school spirit! I'm definitely used to it.

Maybe instead of eliminating the awareness days (as they can be useful), you should look at who is re/posting and decide if they are doing it for a genuine reason (child has autism for example) or just to be posting (looking for attention). And block appropriately.....
I have a cousin who posted today about autism awareness. She's dealing with some mild (relatively speaking) symptoms with her son compared to other families, but it is consuming a lot of her time to help her child. I totally understand and support her trying to make sure others know about the struggle. I "liked" her posts to show her I understand and sympathize, but I don't forward the sentiment because it's not affecting me personally (at least, not to the same degree - my son is very high functioning autistic).
However, I also have a distant SIL (that I only have contact through FB) that forwards and posts about anything and everything that apparently comes across her feed. I'm about to block her because she's cluttering up my feed with things that I have no interest in. I find it hard to believe that she's dealing with half of what she claims to deal with. I could totally be wrong, but a running dialogue about her "going to bed, in pain, hope I sleep tonight, pray for me, if you don't like what I post don't read, in the ER again but they're busy so I'm going home, still in pain, blah, blah, blah" - Her I have no sympathy for.

I can't deactivate my account. This is the ONLY way I can keep in contact and know about any and all homeschooling activities, classes, etc
I never even used FB before and don't use it for anything else
I totally understand when people are dealing with something and want everyone to know about the issue in general way. I just can not imagine that flooding FB feeds is the way to do it.
i could be wrong, I've been wrong before

I'm tired of 'awareness days' as well... mostly because I'm aware of the things they are making me aware of. Besides that I'm not sure what I'm suppose to actually DO on those days (besides go "YEAH! It's such and such awareness day! Are you aware?") I can't change autism, I can't really help a stranger on a the street with autism, the people I know dealing with autism - are dealing with it and friends/family are already supportive.

You can block the topics that you don't want to read about.

You can block the topics that you don't want to read about. I have no clue how to do that. All I know how to do on FB is read what shows up on my page and send personal messages.

If you click on the little "Padlock" Icon in the top right hand corner of your F/B page, you can edit your Privacy Settings to allow or block what you want (or don't want) to see..
As for "Awareness" posts, is it so difficult for you to just ignore or scroll past them? They quickly drop down the page with the amount of people posting.

Yes! And let's make today the Ban All Awareness Days day. Wear amber-colored ribbons for Scoth Awareness Day.

I don't know if it's difficult, but it is quite annoying It seems everyone has their "pet" project and posts about it non--stop. I am going to try to figure out how change the settings. Hopefully, I don't mess it up and can still see the useful info.

The former wife of the late Pierre Eliott Trudeau leads marches and awareness campaigns about mental illness. The message is that it's nothing to be ashamed of and people shouldn't be too embarrassed to seek help. She suffers from bipolar illness herself. I think it's an important issue, with too much stigma still attached to it.

On my FB, there's a little grey thing in the upper right hand corner of the post that you can click on. It will ask you what you want to do about the posts. You can ask fir no more of them to ever appear or just get rid of them by deleting them. It asks you why but I just ignore that. People get on tangents. I'd rather block their latest tangent than them.

I have friends with children with autism. If THEY are posting about it, it must make them feel better and I support their struggle. I don't have a problem with it.

I wore a blue shirt yesterday. Last night on FB, I learned it was wear blue for autism awareness day. I don't think I made anyone aware with my blue shirt, since I wasn't aware myself. I think there needs to be a certain level of awareness to begin with for it to help at all, and then it's more like showing support. The "share if you love Jesus, delete if you don't" posts just annoy me. How about, "be nice and don't annoy people with ridiculous posts if you love Jesus"?

I definitely deserve a massage!! Well, you'll have to wait until July I just need to schedule one. I should be getting a couple a month on doctor's orders. The last one was horribly disappointing. And July is my birthday so I definitely deserve one then.

But she has to share that day, sometimes with total strangers, but often with inconsiderate friends and family who have babies or get married on HER day.

The part I find a PITA is that often the posts are being reposted and the event is long past. If not, every week is for kids with development issues, or animal abuse or whatever. I wish they had the actual dates for the event on the post so folks would know.

The problem is that all those who post, somewhere somehow know each other, even if just through FB, so they all re-post all those messages for each other.
I wish FB had separate pages for that kind of stuff.
May be that should be my next idea for Shark Tank.

but prior to deactivating - I rarely read anything there.... awareness days don't bother me. I hate the "walk for this....walk for that" as if walking is going to do something. Like a walk for "Taking Back the Night" ever stopped a rapist. "I feel like raping someone tonight. Oh, wait...they had a march. Never mind."

I don't like the missing people with no date, location or anything then if you click on it you find they were found two months ago so the person forwarding never even looked.

The worst is when you post a picture that you want all these good comments about and because your friends look at it and shudder and wonder what you were thinking and have the decency not to respond. You post another view, this time of your backside which is equally unflattering and then post a pissy comment about why no one commented on your post. Still, we are not commenting out of consideration but we sure are discussing it behind your back. Ugh. Btw, making sure your daughter looks as bad as you do so you don't feel bad about yourself is not winning you mom of the year no matter how good a mom you think you are.

I also don't like the Chain letter type things. No, I don't want to post whatever it is to 10 friends, blah, blah. I delete those.
