The patient was being transported due to a medical emergency. He might have died from the original reason he was in the ambulance, and not the added trauma of striking his head en route.
The ME's office did not release the cause of death.

I found one. It isn't clear that that was the cause of death.

I'm so glad I didn't die when I was dropped on my head.

Why had the patient called the ambulance? Just because the patient was dropped on his head, it did not mean that that was how he died. It may have had nothing to do with it and nothing that is written in any of the several articles I've looked at says how the patient died.

EMS is not purposefully trying to hurt anyone.

What there hasn't been an officer involved shooting in awhile so now people are turning on the Fire Dept You do know how devastated those first responders are, right? I sure do! I've seen first responders arrive in the ER in tears because they lost someone they thought they could save. Those folks care, they work hard, and they face situations most people wouldn't want to face. Sad to see them held up to this sort of slander.

"Crews responded to a Cambridge Drive home for a medical emergency. While moving Charles Borton from the house to the back of the ambulance, paramedics hit a pothole and the cot accidentally tipped over, causing Borton to hit his head. It's important to note that it was raining at the time." Full article here

Sounds like an accident, with no negligence. As above shit happens.

Sounds like an accident, with no negligence. As above shit happens. It's also important to note, I think, that no cause of death has yet been determined.

not sure about this anti-government -vs- anti-private industry argument, either. doubt very much it had any impact on what happened, NOR what will happen.

Not even fair to compare police and EMS. I have heard many stories from EMS and fire employees where they run across asshole cops that get in the way of taking care of a patient and fight about who is in charge on scene.

Sounds like an accident, with no negligence. As above shit happens. You mean it's OK not to pay attention to what you are doing? This reminds me of the time my grandson knocked over a vase, his comment was "it just fell over" If you don't admit it, you are not responsible. Yeaaaa, we didn't watch where we were going, "it just fell over" it's a good thing the Chief investigated, found nothing wrong! That makes it better.

No, I mean it doesn't appear there was any negligence on the part of the EMT's. The transport cot didn't just fall over, they hit a pot hole in the rain while transporting the patient causing the cot to fall over. The family can sue the fire department if they think there was negligence.
Now if the pothole was reported and left unrepaired for an extended/unreasonable period, I could possible see some negligence on the part of the city.

Maybe they should watched what they were doing!!!! I think it is their job to watch what they are doing. Of course they should! But, they deal in all kinds of uncontrolled conditions and circumstances. I doubt there was any intent, ill will or carelessness on their part. If their was, of course, that person should be fired. They sure as heck aren't doing it for the money. And, yes, they should have sit down and conference and discuss the case and discuss procedure and protocol that could be enacted so it doesn't happen again and discuss their training procedures on outdoor transport.

I'm so glad I didn't die when I was dropped on my head. I always tell my son if people say "what's the matter with you, your Mama drop you on your head?" He can with a straight face say YES she did. Won't go into story but he was only 8 weeks old and it happened in the doctors office - thank goodness.

Anyone here who has never stepped in a pothole during a pouring rain? I sure have. The street is wet and the pothole is full of water. I twisted my ankle pretty darned hard and I wasn't trying to get someone to an ambulance to transport them to the hospital. To slander these EMTs for this is ... I won't say. I want to, badly, but I won't.

I would like to add that cots are not that hard to tip in the first place- simple physics. It happens a lot more than people think.
I have seen them work- I have a lot of respect- not a job I would want to do. I am going to assume it was a simple accident until proven otherwise- that's usually the case.
