We are finally getting rid of Norton and based on you computer geniuses here I've read that McAfee is a great Antivirus software.
We are having problems getting it installed. We have 2013 Samsung Laptop with Windows 8 with Internet Explorer 10.
When we try to install McAfee we get an error message stating that installation is incomplete. What is preventing us from getting this installed?
Please help and thank you in advance!

Pfft. Like I'd even try to do that on my own. DH is brunette. Now can somebody who actually knows about such things (because clearly Sug is blond too) give me something helpful.

Well I've never had any issues installing anything into my computer. But I checked Google and couldn't find anything on this.

Sorry to say this POM, but I agree with Sugi - McAfee sucks lemons - as many lemons as Norton - they could set up a lemonade stand.
If you want a GOOD secure anti-virus/internet security system, go with Trend Micro Titanium.
You can also install some versions of their Security/Anti-virus onto up to 3 computers from one disc, depending which one you purchase.
Other people's opinions may vary, but I've been using Trend for about 5 yrs and never had an issue. It's VERY good at stopping/blocking crap.
You do have to renew your service once a year, but once you purchase the disc and install, you do get alerts when the year is almost up - and you can then renew your subscription for one year through online payment, or purchase a new installation disc - your choice.

ETA: And to answer your question: Is this a free McAfee that you're trying to download from the web, or do you have a disc for installation?
If you're trying to install from a disc, it should prompt you as it's installing.
If it is from a disc, and you've already used it to install the anti virus program onto another computer already, it's not going to work if you're trying to install to a second computer or laptop.

Yeah, DH hates both Norton and McAffee. We have liked Trend Micro, Vipre and Kaspersky. (We get whatever we can find the best deal on at the time.)

If it is from a disc, and you've already used it to install the anti virus program onto another computer already, it's not going to work if you're trying to install to a second computer or laptop. We paid for it and it was a 3 licensed version. While installing it everything worked like it was supposed to do until the very end because we would get a message saying "Installation Incomplete". Even the tech with McAfee went in to our computer and the exact same thing happened to them. All reviews were great, everybody loved it blah, blah, blah but there seems to be a handful of us who it just won't work for. DH refurbished my old Toshiba (you know - the Champagne drinker-LOL!) and it's working great on that computer. But my Samsung is snobbish and said it no likey. We now have Avast which was free and so far so good. Thank you all for your opinions and I would still like to hear from others here if they have one to add along with any suggestions to why Windows 8 wouldn't cooperate. I'd prefer not to upgrade Windows but I suspect that's what we'd need to do. I'll wait and see how Avast works and then deal if it sucks.

When I do my Trend Micro installation, the computer has to be re-started at the end of the process in order for the program to be fully completed and installed. .

Did you scrub you computer completely free of Norton product? And I mean ALL files, etc. I had to do this once to get another virus protection installed and I was doing it from disc. But admit that I am with NIS right now.

I had McAfee for years and it was okay, but a few months ago it started taking forever to do the weekly security scan and slowed everything to a crawl while it was doing it. Then it let a Trojan/virus/something nefarious get past its defenses, and nothing in McAfee's arsenal would clear it, but in the process it wiped all of my files (or the virus did, who knows). I finally abandoned that laptop and got a new one and researched anti-virus products before selecting a new one. I'm using Bitdefender now, which seems to be doing well. It got good reviews and is easy to use and to understand. It also has a separate supposedly more secure screen-based keyboard for entering passwords at financial websites.
Over the years, there were little weird things that McAfee would do that caused it to "forget" my computer and I had to download it again or reset something or another. It wasn't too annoying and it was easier just to deal with than to try to find another antivirus product. But then it betrayed me and let in the virus, so that was a deal-breaker.
I second NNP's suggestion. Make sure every trace of Norton is gone. McAfee is very touchy about that.

Thank you! DH said he did but who knows. I'm a maroon when it comes to techy stuff so I have to trust what he tells me. I'm sending him all of your comments and told him I do NOT want McAfee on my computer. I'm, so far, perfectly content with Avast and it's free. Win, win. Keep the comments coming smart people! I really do value your knowledge and experiences and appreciate you sharing them with me. ETA: Grrrr! Either IE hates Avast or Avast hates PBs but I've had to reboot 3 times tonight! Norton is looking pretty good right now.

POM, not sure if it is still true, but I've heard both Norton and McAfee tend not to install correctly on any system that had the other one on it. Generally its recommended to stick to one or the other for the life of that PC and change when you move on to a new system.
I don't think either of them uninstall all that cleanly FWIW.

I had more damn issues with McAfee on my old computers that I said screw it with this one. I have four security things on my computer and the only one I paid for was Malwarebytes Premium.

Norton has stuff "hidden" all over the place But like I said I eventurally went back to Norton Internet Security so I am happy with it. Oh and as for McAfee maybe the problem is that he is busy running from murder charges and it's bad Karma. Had to throw that in since seeing an update on his bizzare life the other night

Not a McAfee question, but because it was a computer question thread, I thought I would ask my question here.
Is there any way I can use my PC to send a text message to someone's I-Phone or Android phone?

That was quick. Thanks, Archie. I thought in this day and age there must be some way to do it. I was just not sure where to start looking. Thanks again.

I forget which website I used. She got them but said they look weird. I think they had a lot of extra verbiage or something in them.

Not a McAfee wuestion, but because it was a computer question thread, I thought I would ask my question here. Is there any way I can use my PC to send a text message to someone's I-Phone or Android phone? DH uses Google voice. He has an iPod, not an iPhone, but as long as there is WiFi around he can also use it to make calls or texts, and we can text from the pc. We also use it to make long distance calls for free on our landline phone. I go to the Google voice account and tell it the number to call and to use the house phone. It rings once on the phone, I answer, then that rings thru to the number I'm calling. Only problem is when cellphone callers try to return his call to that number, not the landline number.
