President Obama does not follow her in Twitter. "You see, @barackobama isn't Barack Obama. It's Organizing For Action, the non-profit formed out of the remains of Obama's 2012 campaign. OFA leases the Twitter account from the president's campaign (which still exists as a legal entity). The organization uses the account clearly so that people will make the same assumption that Brock did, that it's the voice of Barack Obama. And when a Barack Obama supporter sees a tweet from @barackobama asking them to give money to OFA, they're a lot more likely to do so than if they see a tweet from @ofa, the organization's official (and much-less-followed) account." Woman says she was put in mental hospital for saying Obama follows her on Twitter. She was kind of right. I'll wait for the release of the hospital report.

The hospital report will find it unfounded.
Some people shouldn't be allowed to use the internet if they're so gullible.

Jesus@jesus has a Twitter account. Does this mean that people think the real Jesus is speaking to them?

Jesus@jesus has a Twitter account. Does this mean that people think the real Jesus is speaking to them? Some would say Jesus speaks to all of us if we choose to listen. However, I don't think they have twitter up there. If there is an "up there". Can't prove it one way or the other.

"He said red , yellow, black, or white, all are equal in his sight. Mmm, mmm, mm! Barack Hussein Obama". Now you made me think of those school kids being taught that song again.

I get personal emails from Pope Francis. He truely believes the two of us are platonic soulmates and he shares his deep, personal thoughts with me. The emails begin with 'Dear Tennesseer' so I know we have a special relationship.

Does anybody here care that a woman was incarcerated subject to acknowledging Moon Pies aren't actually from the moon? Did 'ability to correctly identify Twitter accounts' or 'ability to correctly identify the terrestrial origin of Moon Pies' become part of the qualifying standard for basic human rights while I wasn't looking? What the [snow leopard] does it matter?

Again we have one brief report based on one side of the story.

Again we have one brief report based on one side of the story. I don't care one way or another if she was rightfully committed. Putting "must acknowledge that Obama doesn't follow her on Twitter" as a condition of discharge from confinement is Orwellian dystopia at its worst.

I suppose you're right. Better safe than sorry. Today she's mixing up Twitter accounts. Tomorrow she could be shooting up the capitol.

She was put INTO a facility because she was acting mentally disturbed. She was kept there for reasons we do not know. I believe the Obama comment is a small part of a much larger story.

People aren't usually committed because of a Twitter account. There's more to this story, but due to confidentiality, the hospital isn't allowed to say.

There was a post by (I believe) jma between yours and mine originally. The theme was "The world is now a little safer with these crazy Obama twitter believers locked up.", sarcastically.

Then why was it made an explicit condition of her discharge? Unless you're saying the article is lying about or misinterpreting that point.

I do not believe the entire discharge paper has one condition. I suspect the discharge paperwork says a lot of stuff, and this one thing is being singled out because it is funny, and easy.

My problem is that regardless of how deserving she was of being committed in the first place, and regardless of how many other conditions appear on her release form, there are no justifiable conditions for which "must state that Obama is not following her on Twitter" should appear on such a form. The exact statement is: If this is true, it's an abuse of authority regardless of the hospital's side of the story. It's thought policing at its worst.

Maybe she made up wild tales to go along with it, and they wanted her to go all the way back to the root of the story. I agree that it is weird. I'm guessing whoever wrote that doesn't understand Twitter and everyone follows everyone, and that doesn't indicate a personal relationship whatsoever. They want her to admit that she has no personal relationship to the president.

I don't care if it's "must state that Obama is not her fairy godmother", it shouldn't appear on a psychiatric release form. "Must state that Obama is not the Antichrist who deserves to die", maybe. Although at that point the issue shifts to "Really? You don't suspect she'll maybe lie to secure her release?"

Whoever wrote that condition either didn't understand what was going on or likely did not care. While the person was mistaken about it actually being Obama, it doesn't make sense to be on a treatment plan unless you actually had access to her accounts and prove she was wrong ... and that it was a really harmful thing to believe.
