And well the student leaders should have overridden the flag ban. It was a ridiculous ban.

I think the way to get the attention of these so called leaders as they moved this petition forward ..I see it was done in but by a 6/4 vote..pretty disgusting to me..was a ground swell of California voters and legislatures against any State aid toward the SC campus,...all raises of professors stopped and since it was the USA flag in question , the same from our Federal government..I am a taxpayer and I know millions of federal $ go into that school system...and if these folks really feel t6he USA flag is representing racism then I don';t want my $ going toward educating such idiots and dopes....
If something like that had happened I wonder what the vote would have been...Who says the State HAS to kick in these $ or the Federal Govt too...
If the $ stopped how quickly would the rank and file on campus been looking to string up these so called leaders...

Everyone with a working brain knows what the flag represents- good and bad.
If we could just stop the GOP from rewriting history......Or maybe that's the master plan- make sure the folks that can't make it into college and learn real history, leave school for their menial jobs angry as fuck and ready to vote

I agree and I would have liked to have seen a vote to ban any tax dollars that went to this school or any governmental school loans had it gone through. You can be culturally inclusive without banning our flag. If you find our flag offensive then please leave our country. TYIA.

I see this as a wonderful learning opportunity for those involved i.e. some sense of "idealism" hitting real world reality. College education at its finest.

You could have added stupid gun owners and Christians for the trifecta. ;-)

I am totally not pro ban.
I do do wonder however who is in charge of monitoring if flags are appropriately displayed and who gets the bad press if they are not.
Husband got more than one flag as a citizenship present. I never flew one. When I went to look at the rules for displaying one, they are so detailed, I didn't feel comfortable lest I do it incorrectly... Which is sad really...

That makes me sad, Oped...if it was something important to him. I have no idea what all the rules are either. I think as long as you fly it in a respectful manner - off the ground and not in poor condition - I doubt many would complain.

Just don't let it get tattered, touch the ground, stay outside in bad weather, or hang it upside down. Everything else it just nitpicky stuff IMHO and no one I know (and I pretty zealous) will call you out on it. Yes there are all kinds of rules, but just for fun once (when I was better versed in all of them) I used to point out to my Grandpa the infractions the local VFW halls had. It's the spirit that counts.

Make sure there's a light on it if you fly it at night

I was surprised when I found out not all countries have such strict flags rules. I had always wondered why on vacation the Canadian flag flew on houses in the crappiest weather and many were close to shreds.

Make sure there's a light on it if you fly it at night We fly it 24/7 out side our condo office...has a light on it...never allowed to be ragged, torn...actually it just flys..no biggie but looks kind of neat there..many veterans live here so wouldn't be allowed to be degraded...we also pledge allegiance before all meetings too..Our snow birds from the frigid north..{Canada } stand respectfully..just not pledging.. Believe if it were any of our grandkids who were participating in that fiasco in California...I believe as grand parents we would lovely, with great kindness have kicked their behinds all the way down the street...Stupidity doesn't have much of a place here..not that much time left to waste over idiotic behavior...

The light was the hard one. I don't want to take it down every day. Do would need to make sure it was lit... Never got to it.
