Wow. Nice to see that letter writing isn't dead in that house. It's more likely that, at that level of wealth, they aren't sending e-vites for their parties. I suspect engraved invitations for every play date gets expensive. ;-)

I could spend that. No problem. Serious question - what would you get? And I am not talking for ONE day. What would you be getting in food to be spending that daily, on a regular basis? As mentioned, fancy ass places don't usually have THAT much on the plate. There's a bunch of very high end restaurants in Seattle, you can easily drop 100-150 on dinner without alcohol. Add in the vino, dessert, an after dessert cocktail... I might need to dip into savings! I'd seriously get (1-3) hundred dollar bottles of wine with dinner. If money is as disposable as toilet paper, believe me I could spend it! Brewster's millions aint got nothing on me! I could probably do it for a week before I needed a big greasy spoon burger and fries for 4.99 or something tho.

Oh, you are talking about eating out. I was thinking you talked about buying food for home.

Oh, you are talking about eating out. I was thinking you talked about buying food for home. Oh, sorry. I thought it was for both. Well, I could buy expensive wine for the house!! I don't really like expensive seafood, so I'd probably have a hard time spending that much cooking at home. I could get some very nice oils and vinegars and spices, but yeah, I'd be tough. Maybe that could include a well paid personal chef??

Hmmm.....I like your creativity. I don't even care if that chef is any good, I am just sooooo tired of making breakfasts and lunches and dinners!!!

3 kids and 4 nannies?!?!! Downton isn't even staffed like that ... An ex friend of mine just had a baby. She also has a 2 yr old. The 2 yr old in a daycare. They have a live-in nanny and her mom comes over for 3-4 days at a time every week. And her husband has a regular, non-traveling job. That infant has 3 people around her most of the time. My mom knows her mom, so she asked why does she need so many people. Answer? Well, she is an "older" mother who just had a baby, so she doesn't have that much energy. I almost fell off my bed laughing. I can't wait when she has a toddler and a pre-schooler at home! She has no clue what "energy" even means right now LOL, she's your ex friend. Next summer there will be one day per week where my DS will be at daycare and I will be home with DD. I expect to develop ulcers over the guilt of only caring for one child on my day off from work. Pretty sure I wouldn't cut it as an uber rich person.

Expensive wine and liquor, fancy oils and spice blends, kobe beef, dry aged beef, high priced seafood, it could easily be done.
One of my stepbrothers is a chef. I could very easily develop expensive tastes. We made lasagna with all imported stuff one time, that was a $100 pan of lasagna.

I make my crab mac and cheese once a year (usually new year's eve). It has a pound of jumbo lump crab, gruyere, fontina, and extra sharp cheddar. It's over $50 for something that can be usually made for less than $10.

SHE sure does not look like she eats that much. Maybe most of that $14K is going to feed the nannies It isn't about the cost of the meals. It's about the cost of the Bentlys and drivers to get you and your entourage to the restaurant.

Not something we do regularly though, we had house guests. The friends we went with said it was better than The French Laundry.....and cheaper!

I guess I just don't have the mind of a wealthy person. I can not IMAGINE buying food that would cost $500 a DAY. I am going to ignore alcohol costs bc otherwise, you can easily reach $500 before breakfast.

with that kind of budget I'd have a personal chef. I'd have four. One for breakfast, one for lunch, one for dinner and one for snacks. I could learn to live like a billionaire in a heartbeat.

yeah - but then there comes a point when you have someone to do everything - cook, clean, care for your kids... and then what's the point of your presence?

Yes, I'm the maid, cook, chauffeur, personal shopper. They only thing I don't do is snow removal, I'm not a fan of the cold outdoors. ETA - after NomoreDramaQ1015's post I realized I also need to add home manager

This phenomenon is called "Golddigging".
It doesn't need to be analyzed any deeper that that.

Spend, maybe. But how could you EAT that much? I hope she has a line item for a good gym. The more expensive the food, the less you get. Go to a really high end restaurant and you get 4 ounces of meat a couple of baby carrots and a few sprigs of herbs for $100. A serving of meat should be the size of a deck of playing cards, so that sounds about right.

Apparently she's worth 50-60 million on her own, without this money she's asking for.

IMO she needs to just suck it up and realize that she has to shop at Saks and Bergdorff Goodman with the unwashed masses now... no boutiques for YOU!
