Hey, the rich live on a different scale than the rest of us.  They're not exactly going to Piggly-Wiggly and buying day-old bread, or going to the hair salon training school for a wash-and-trim. When you get up that high, you have to pay the price of maintaining it, for show if not for yourself. Plus taking care of all those retainers, hangers-on, toadies and other beck-and-call folks who do the things you cannot possibly be seen doing anymore. That said, I wonder if the word "prenuptial agreement" ever occurred to anyone here. I don't know their background; whether one or the other or both were rich to start with or dirt-poor in the beginning and built their wealth together. ETA: I see she has a net worth of $50 million. Doesn't say if that was her money to start with or money she got from the duration of the marriage. |

I mean, they're going to St. Barths for spring break. You don't expect them to just loll around on that one island, do you? They need to visit at least several more, and they only way to get there is fly, of course.  And I'm assuming the expense of the jet would include pilot, copilot, staff, cost of running it (fuel, mechanical stuff, insurance, licenses, fees, storage, maintenance). Depending on the jet, it can be pretty pricey. |

That's because there were no labor laws back then and you only needed one nanny who worked from the crack of dawn until late into the night and was on call during sleeptime as well. Haven't read the article, but if you want the equivalent of one nanny there at all times, you need to have a total of 4 since each one is only working 8 hours a day 5 days a week. You can patch together the equivalent of a SAHM role with about 4 FTEs, which is what it sounds like they may be doing. |

Dayum, even feeding herself, the kids and the staff....that is some very generous grocery shopping. I'm assuming liquor is included in that, along with non-food and health and beauty items. Pets too, perhaps? If it's all organic and gourmet market purchases, it's possible. Wonder if she'll adopt me?  |

I wasn't thinking they'd need nanny coverage 24/7 , my bad! I only know this because I was trying to explain to a friend how expensive it was to staff a security guard at a gatehouse. Her neighborhood is thinking of installing a gate/guard and she and many of the others are thinking - how much hassle and expense can it be to hire a guard since they only make $10 an hour? In her mind, she's thinking that translates into a $20k a year salary and that would be the cost to guard the gate. I explained that if you do out the math, you probably need 4 FTEs to cover a single guard position, even if there's no guard on duty from 10 PM - 7 AM. Between vacation days, sick days, 40 hour workweeks, etc., it's more expensive to have 'round the clock coverage than you might think. |

Milee, the 4 FTE came immediately to my mind as well. I am certain they required 24/7 coverage. What if they were entertaining? What if they were at someone else's house who was entertaining? Overtime is time-and-a-half, anyway, so you might as well have a separate nanny at only double time. It only costs you 25% more, and the nanny isn't cranky from lack of sleep!  |

They have a live-in nanny and her mom comes over for 3-4 days at a time every week. And her husband has a regular, non-traveling job. That infant has 3 people around her most of the time. My mom knows her mom, so she asked why does she need so many people. Answer? Well, she is an "older" mother who just had a baby, so she doesn't have that much energy. I almost fell off my bed laughing. I can't wait when she has a toddler and a pre-schooler at home! She has no clue what "energy" even means right now |
