People's lack of manners.
We had a department luncheon yesterday for about 20 people. Tons of food there everyone ate until they were full, and we had enough leftover for the following day as well. We told everyone that we would put the food out in our cube the next day for lunch and they could come by and fix a small plate. But as we start to clean up one guy gets up, grabs a plate and starts loading it up as high as it can go. Not sure if he ate it later that day or took it home for dinner, but either way it was kind of tacky.
So today we set the food out and it looks like there is enough for about 10 people to share. 3 of us in the cube make a plate and then here comes that guy. Several dishes only had a bit left in them so he dumped all of them on his plate and scraped the bowls clean. One dish that had enough left for 4 people to split, but it hadn't been heated up so it was hard to cut through without a knife....so he just dumps the whole thing on top of the mountain of food he had created. Sits down to eat an notices the last 2 liter bottle of soda only has about 2 cups worth in it....so he just tips back the bottle and drinks out of it.
Thankfully only 2 other people came in after him, and there was some food left...but nearly what there should have been. The whole time my friend and I are watching him with our jaws dropped to the floor and eyes bugged out of our heads. Some people just have no consideration for others. The last 2 guys that came in asked us before they even picked up a plate if everyone else had eaten yet...so a little bit of faith in humanity was restored there.

This is beyond tacky. The DUFF probably doesn't know or care what a jerk he is.
At a sporting event one time, there was food served. One group did not get finished in a timely manner and all of the food was gone. It was poor planning on the organizers part. Grown men/women at a sporting event will not eat just one 4-inch subway sandwich. The men would eat at least a 12-incher.

We have a large faculty (250+), and businesses frequently volunteer food for stuff like Teacher Appreciation Day without really understanding that.
One year the faculty was halfway through the line when the principal made an announcement that we were almost out of burritos. They were large, he said, so would we please cut our burrito in half and share with another?
I know that isn't the same as the original story, but since the post above was about poor planning . . .
We all know to go before the coaches when we eat or don't bother going.

Yup. I'm constantly surprised by how many people have absolutely no regard or consideration for others. They just grab everything that they can for themselves and screw everyone else.

We had a man at church who would bring in all sorts of plastic containers on potluck day. At the end of the potluck he would go through and empty all the dishes to take the food home.

We have two ladies that usually organize things when we have luncheons at my job. One or the other organizes everything. Our employer doesn't pay for anything, the ladies set an amount that each employee needs to contribute if they want to participate. It's usually $10, but depends on the menu.
We have these luncheons for holidays, if someone is retiring, the ladies feed the men around Father's Day and the men do the same for the ladies around Mother's Day and some years, Valentine's Day (one of the two ladies still help organize it lol) and sometimes we do it just because.
The unspoken but well known rules are, everyone that paid to participate eats first, to make sure they get their choice of what's on the menu. Whatever is leftover, (there's usually too much of at least a few items) the people that paid can make a plate for later, and people that didn't pay are also welcome to help themselves.
One of the organizers has a serious problem with one particular employee. This employee pays to participate, but the first thing she always does is pile up 4 or 5 huge plates to take home with her. It's beyond greedy and tacky to pack up that much food period, but she also does it before all the participants have had a chance to choose their meal. It upsets the organizer so much that she doesn't even want to include this lady's group when she plans something. She's asked this lady before to wait before she starts packing up food, but she doesn't cooperate. I don't know what planet this lady is from, I would be totally embarrassed to act like that. I'm greedy, but I don't even pack one plate for later, even if I paid to participate and everyone else has eaten.

The worst I've done is Vulture outside a conference room with other vultures when food was brought in for people in the conference room -- waiting for every one to finish so we could swoop in and scarf down the leftovers (usually pizza or sandwiches/chips, salads, fruit/cookies)... We'd wait until the conference room cleared out as people finished and then we go in and 'clean up'.
Management found the Vulturing (people hanging out in the hall waiting...) to be disturbing so they said we couldn't have any of the food until it got moved to the breakroom... so then we'd Vulture around the break room waiting. They use to cater in HUGE amounts of really good food for conferences/big meetings. There was always tons of food left over.
That said... I have witnessed the person who seems to be a bit clueless on the "share the wealth" rule of thumb when there's extra food. I'm not sure what kind of home they grew up in where it was OK to take as much food as possible when food was offered with little thought of the other people who would also need to eat. I strongly suspect that these same people have nasty food encrusted microwaves and who will happily take the 'wrong' lunch or help themselves to a frozen dinner in the office fridge/freezer. ::sigh:: Perhaps they were indeed raised by Wolves?

Was it at least after everyone had eaten? Still tacky, but at least everyone would have gotten to have their lunch or dinner.

I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to keep my mouth shut if I saw something like that. Then again, anyone who knows me would make sure I didn't see it if they were going to do it. I'm not known for keeping my mouth shut when something gets in my craw.

Those are cases where some Tabasco or Guasco sauces are handy. Or maybe some laxatives in a liquid form?
And then sit back, relax and wait for it!
PS:before hand make sure that all there is available to drink is water( no milk) and the bathrooms on the floor are locked!

Although I would never pack up food from a gathering to take home, I do understand the urge to at church potlucks. Even though I'm a little bit of a germophobe and generally avoid buffets, the church potlucks are too good to resist. People seem to bring their best dishes to show off at the church potlucks and the food is usually really, really good. Plus, it includes stuff I like but am too lazy to make for myself, like deviled eggs.
Church potlucks are the bomb!

She said some kids at school were stealing her and her brothers & sisters lunches so her mom frosted their cake with frosting mixed with exlax. That apparently did the trick - the lunches were never taken again .

After a while I got tired of her bumming so I asked a friend who smoked non filtered Picayunes for one of his. Next time girl asked for cig I gave her the Picayunes. She went around telling everyone I was smoking "funny cigaretts" - Like I was going to share my weed with her - NOT!!! But she quit bumming from me

Back in the dark ages, we had a community refrigerator where we could put lunches and leftovers from lunches out. We went out for Chinese one day and I had my leftovers in a styrofoam container with my name on it in the fridge, so I could have it for lunch the next day. This was at a time in history where I was taking my lunch to work 9/10 days because I couldn't afford to go out any more frequently. Anyway, I went to get my lunch the next day, and it was gone from the fridge. One of the faculty members (who made roughly 10x my income) ate it because he was too lazy to go down to the med school cafeteria and pay $5 for lunch. So I had to go buy my own lunch (again), which meant the next time the lab went out I couldn't go. I was PISSED OFF.

I'd think I'd have been asking for the $5 for my lunch.

I'd think I'd have been asking for the $5 for my lunch. This guy was seriously scary to be around. I think that he really managed to bully a lot of the department. For instance, I was usually the first person in in the morning so would put on the pot of coffee and go to the lab to get my coffee cup. When I would get back to the coffee room, I would find that he took his 30+ oz mug and put it under the spout the coffee comes out of - leaving colored water for the rest. Once, I pulled his mug out and put the pot back under the spout so the coffee could finish brewing and I think he just about had a coronary that someone dared to challenge him. I didn't appreciate being yelled at, but he was very high in the hierarchy of the department and things were weird enough between the clinical and research staff as it was, I really didn't want to make them worse.

When I started going at sea I was barely 20 and had the misfortune to be in a mixed crew with 3 Russians and two Bulgarians. I had to pick up on the language fast at least so we could understand each other. This one russian guy(big MFer) was kinda bullying arround everybody Ofcourse including me. Nobody ever said anything to him and he was most of the time sitting around while we were doing his share of the work. Untill one day... on top of sitting and doing nothing he was also name calling and yell at the rest of us. So, I get a bit upset and asked him what's his problem. He stands, comes to me and just shoves me onto the wall like I was nothing. His mistake and misfortune! He pushed me against some tools(shovels, brooms) that were leaning against the wall so I grabbed a shovel.
He looks at me and starts laughing and asked: what are you gonna do you son of a... He didn't finish the sentence because I hit him as hard as I coud right "In the name of the Father" kinda way. Needles to say that he changed his attitude towards all of us. Litle after that I was also being let go but hey, hitting him felt DAMNED good!
