(2 "new"'s since this is the third TV version)
Since we did discuss this a few weeks ago in the General Chat thread, it put the bug in me to make sure to watch the premiere. Without spoiling anything, I'll say they did stick to the original theme of the Odd Couple very well, with some updating and changes that don't seem to take away from it at all. I think the show needs a little time to find its way, but it may prove to have some staying power. We'll see.

LOL I was just going to start a thread myself! I also watched and I did like it! I love Matthew Perry and have never seen Thomas Lennon but he did a good job as Felix. Loved the sports ticker and F.U. and when he set his coffee cup on Felix's crotch LMAO! I am a huge fan of the old TV show and found this a refreshing updated version and hope it only gets better from here and that it gets picked up for next year.
On a side note though the reviews have not been good. But WTH do they know!

I had not read any reviews as yet, but I also hope the show gets a chance. Out of the 4 broadcast networks, I've heard that CBS is usually the most willing to give a show some time to get going, and not be so quick to cancel. I hope so in this case, because I think it has potential. The first sinus "honk" from Felix did it for me. It was great.

I think what is working in it's favor is that it has been placed in a prime spot right after BBT!

So true. The Millers had that spot last year and did OK. This year they were separated from BBT and got cancelled before Christmas.

I enjoyed it. And, I was a big fan of the old show with Jack Klugman & Tony Randall.

I watched about 5 mins and had to change the channel. Maybe I didn't give it enough time but the acting seemed really bad.

Crap - I forgot to watch it. I will give it a lot of leeway. It is rare that I love the first episode of great shows. It takes time to fully develop the characters, and get used to them, etc.

I watched it on Demand last night. I like Matt Perry. Good to see him back on TV. I'll watch it again. I hope they don't stick to Ocar's apt for every episode. There needs to be more than cooking and cleaning.

I just watched it. It seems really dated - jokes about wives being terrible, and a guy trying to have meaningless sex, the hot neighbor, the black friend, etc. And of course, the oppressive laugh track. It was all very 70's and 80's sitcom. I thought Matthew Perry (whom I love) sounded like he was reading from the cue cards and it was the first time he ever saw the lines. He used to be able to act!
Thomas Lennon saved it. I hope it gets better - maybe flows a little better or something.

I liked the original (TV) series with Klugman & Randall.
I'm not a fan of Matthew Perry. His portrayal of Oscar is almost a carbon copy of his acting as Chandler on "Friends".
Same with "The Whole Nine Yards" movies. It's like he can't change his style of performance to play different character roles.
And his over-emphasis of words mid-sentence (which was a running joke on Friends) is so annoying.

I watched it, I liked it enough to keep watching. I like Matthew Perry and I did like his last show and the one before that too. Anyone else remember it? Something about hockey? I'm not crazy, it was there.

I thought it was funny. I don't remember exactly what it was but it made me actually laugh at one point. That is usually my measure for a comedy. They need to ditch the laugh track or at least turn it down to an acceptable level. It seemed over the top loud. I have never seen the original.
I have it scheduled to recaord all episodes.

That's exactly how I felt about it too. He seemed very awkward and he was talking loud, as if there was an elderly person just off set that he wanted to make sure could hear him. It seems like most people thought it was good though, so I may have to give it another try.

It takes a lot to make me laugh out loud but there were 2 scenes that did. The one with the sports ticker and F.U. and when Oscar said it took him 2 days to figure out that F.U. meant Felix Unger. And the 2nd one when he put his cup on Felix's crotch.

Most the shows I watch now are on CBS too and TNT. That has changed over the years. It used to be NBC (Friends and ER) and ABC way before that.

I saw the second episode last night, and I believe this show will do fine. I think it will be a work in progress in some ways, as the characters get more defined. Already I see less emphasis on Oscar's slob ways, but that may change too.

Yes I agree, I enjoyed last nights show too. I laughed out loud when Oscar asked Felix how he got out of the tent and Felix pulled out imaginary scissors and cut himself out. Laws of mime LMAO!

I thought last nights episode was pretty entertaining. A bit hokey at points, but still fun. I could see it coming when Felix "lost Hope", but it still gave me a good laugh.

I wasn't able to watch last night. Thursdays are tough for me I usually have things to do after work and can't get them done in time to watch. That is why I have always watched BBT on demand a week later, it looks like I will have to do it for this show as well for the most part. I am glad to hear it was funny!

Watch it and yep still funny! I am kind of hoping we get to meet their ex-wives soon. In the original I loved Bret Somers who played Oscar's ex-wife Blanche and was Jack Klugman's real life wife. I liked the actress that played Gloria too.

I was able to watch last night. Didn't have any laugh out loud moments. Last nights show was the 1st time I saw a lot of Chandler in Matthew's performance. But since I loved Chandler I am okay with that.
