I started talking about this show on the Downton Abbey thread because I wasn't sure if there were enough peeps here that watched it for me to start a thread. But since someone started a thread about the books it does seem that there are so here it is!
Several of my posters recommended it to me about a year ago. At that time they were in the middle of season 3 and I tried to watch an episode but just couldn't get into it. I probably didn't pick the best episode to start with. There are certain shows you really have to watch from the beginning to understand the characters and premise and this is one of them. So I ordered the first 3 season's on DVD and spent the last couple of weekends catching up.
Chummy is my favorite character! I find Fred kind of hard to understand most the time. Not a fan of Trixie's new Pixie.
The season 3 finale threw me for a loop! Do they follow Jenny to her new job? After all this show stems from her memoirs. Or do they stay with the rest of them at the nunnery? After googling I now know how they are moving forward and am looking forward to seeing what develops.
On a side note I don't really care for all the screaming kids but since it is a show about giving birth I guess I will have to put up with it since the show is so good. LOL
For those that do enjoy British dramas really should check out this show.

And Judy Parfitt (Sister Monica Joan) is a hoot! It drove me crazy for the 1st couple of episodes trying to figure out where I had seen her before. And then the light bulb over my head lit up! She played Alex Kingston's (Dr. Elizabeth Corday) Mum in couple of episodes on ER. She was a hoot there too!

Friendly comment: there are two threads about this. Maybe one of the mods can merge them?

So the new season is airing right now in the UK and I have been told by a reliable source that Trixie still has her Pixie in the new season.

yogiii I transferred this quote from another thread we were talking about this show on to this one.
My UK source tells me that Trixie is growing her hair back out in the new season.

I finally finished the books and am making my way through the series. It's good. I enjoy it, but obviously as in all things it is not nearly so good as the books.... Can't be so detailed or tell the whole of the stories. On the whole though entertaining and interesting and maintaining the general tone.
I do not care for how they sometimes have the 'wrong' midwife attend a specific story/client.

I need to read the books, some day. I mentioned to DH the new season would be starting up and he said "Oh great, more women screaming", LOL. He usually leaves the room whenever the first birth happens.

I do this one like I did DA. I preordered the new season on DVD and will get it at the end of the month and then watch the whole season.
