Yeah, I remember hearing/reading about this last year. No idea if it was here or elsewhere though.

That is crazy. I have never done that in a restaurant.

Yeah, this stuff is clearly made up. 26 out of 45 customers spend 3 minutes taking pictures of their food? 14 out of 45 customers get a picture of them eating the food? 8 out of 45 bumped into each other? hahahahaha
Just another way for people to whine about cellphone use.

Very amusing! (see, more confirmation of Stephen Hawking's premise that these infernal machines are out to get us)

Almost every group dining outing I've been on this past year involved asking the waiter or waitress to take a group photo. In fact, just last week, we interrupted the waiter 3 times to try on 3 different phones. I was so embarrassed. We were there very leisurely but other tables may not have appreciated the delay in the waiter getting to their table. Photographer should definitely be adding to their description. But, it is free advertisement as almost all of these photos involve uploading to facebook and/or instagram a tagging the location.

Well if that is now the norm perhaps restaurants should consider hiring a minimum wage teen to circulate during peak business hours helping with wifi & taking pictures so the waitstaff can do their jobs & not have to fool with it.

Bucca Di Peppo (at least the Universal City location in Hollywood, CA) now has an official photographer. She takes pictures of the group - you get a free collage photo and she also has the other pictures for sale - 15$ a picture - if you buy 2 or more, you get a discount.
People take a lot more pictures nowadays and younger adults want to post everything right away on their FB, Whatsapp, Instagram etc.etc. , so I would think it takes longer for people to eat and leave.

Or people dining out could just disconnect from their device for an hour or two, turn it off, stick it in their pocket or purse, and enjoy their meal - which is why they went to a restaurant in the first place.
And then other patrons could enjoy theirs as well. Wait staff shouldn't be asked or expected to stop what they're doing to take pics .
It's bad enough you see a group of people or a family sitting at a table and none of them are talking to each other - they're staring down at their phones, either texting, playing games or web-surfing.

We have some requests by our chefs that no cameras are to be used at the table. One chef even complained that a woman punched holes in his leather banquette with her stilettos, taking pictures of the restaurant. It's becoming ridiculous. Get off the damn phone!

I honestly had never noticed people taking pictures. We just got back from lunch & there were two 50ish aged women taking turns standing on a booth & snapping pics of each other. Freaking nuts. Neither of us pulled our phones out throughout the meal.

People pull their phones out now and it's just a matter of habit. It happens everywhere and my FB feed is loaded with pics of people's food.
And the power of suggestion works. It makes me hungry when I see something I like.

I don't recall seeing anyone take pictures of their food in a restaurant myself, but I know for sure it happens. I post on a Las Vegas forum, and when people post reports on their Vegas vacations, they often include pics of their meals. Some are nice to see, and others make we wonder "why did they spend $50 on such a teeny tiny steak?"

These were of some fascinating dishes in Germany that we've tried to duplicate here.

I get pics all the time of platters of food ....pictures of friends where ever...many drinks on the table...Daughter flew down a few months to see me ..visit..we checked into fancy Boca resort hotel and { now very guiltily..sigh} had waiter take a few pics of us at table..didn't bother with the plate of food though. {He was well compensated..}On second day..evening meal I went for it and ordered a Lobster @$49 per..{shesh} and if I did it over again would have taken a picture of that sucker...

You probably don't see your daughter that often if she flew in to see you - that's different, and you probably treasure the pic. A group of friends or family who probably see each other every other day, don't need a group pic at the table or take a pic of their food to post on social media for the world to see - if it's a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary, that might be one thing - but it's getting really out of control now that phones have the cameras on them.

I think that seeing a person at a restaurant taking a picture of their food to post on social media should be grounds for walking up to that person and punching them in the face.
No one gives a f*ck about what you're eating. If you think they do, then start punching your own self-important ass in the face until you either die or teach yourself a lesson in humility. Either or.

I can see taking a picture of food that is stunningly, amazingly plated. HOWEVER, my very limited experience in photography leads me to believe that the photo is not going to be as stunning as in person. Most of us are not equipped to take food pron pictures.

OK, but lets talk about the other side. some of us have our sh&t together. I'd like to be given the menu and water when we sit down and asked if we want drinks I'd like a pretty quick follow up about ordering apps, and DON"T BE SURPRISED if we order our dinner at the same time. Most are good with it, but a few servers are confused. maybe they're only in charge of app orders. At any tmie after i've completed my order, you can leave the check. be willing to take my CC directly from me. The last bullet may not be apprapo in fancier places, but it blows me away in a casual place where they don't do this. the fastest way to ruin a dinner out for me is to be stranded at the table because i don't have my check. I have 1. gone to the front desk on our way out and requested to pay 2. worked with the money i have and mentally calculated the tqab and just left cash on the table. your tip may be large or small, depending on how many bills <$20 i have to work with to hit the amount correctly. Those are rare, but i've had to do it, and it pisses me off. I know a lot of people don't have a plan for their life and drift on through the day, but some of us wanted to do things. I won't feel rushed if a bill is there, but i'll probably pay (unless i'm planning to order a second or third drink). PS, yes, I tip well and am very nice to the waitstaff. I just don't like being held hostage. OMG - so this!! I hate having to sit & wait after my meal. I have done both of the things you mention.

Cell phones are a fact of life. And, if people are out celebrating and want to snap a few pics, who cares? I don't think it should be the job of the wait staff to take pics or touch your phones. And, restaurants could make that a policy because a lot of cell phones are gross and are never cleaned so they could easily back off that one under "food hygiene" issues.
But, yeah, I see people taking pics all the time, pretty much every where. So, I can see where it might interfere with the initial process if they aren't ordering quickly. But, that has nothing to do with getting my check in a timely manner so that I can pay and leave. If I say No dessert, then give me my check NOW.

Not exactly fine dining but I stopped at Wendy's to get a coffee last night. And pulled up and some woman was yammering through the window holding what looked like coupons, this went on for like 10 min. Finally, I just thought, screw it, and pulled around and left. If my fast food ain't fast, then forget it!

We went to a wine and food pairing a couple weeks ago. The chef that did the meal had the courses (there were 6) plated stunningly. It was one of the few times I wished that I had a smart phone....if only to help me remember the ingredients.
However, this was not a meal where it was an eat-n-go. The dinner ran over 3 hours, so snapping a few pics was not going to delay anything.

My BFF went to a retirement party for one of her co-workers at a Brazilian restaurant. Someone sent her pictures of the party in an email. Was it pictures of people she liked, pictures of people having fun, or pictures of the woman who was retiring, who she'd probably never see again? No, it was pictures of each plate of food. She was pretty pissed.

Your correct...usually a visit up North by me at Thanksgiving time...see kids, grand kids ...my days of traveling around NE are over I am afraid..
