The unrest in the middle East is spreading anf influences all parts of the area. Here is a small incident that is taking place in Gaza but youth who want the division between the two sides , hamas and fatah to be over and a joining of the two ssides in I imagine their struggle to gain stathood. I wouldn't be surprised the same thing is happening in the West Bank too. --------------------------------------------- "http://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingnews/225127/hamas-detains-unity-protesters ---------------------------------------------- Hamas detains 'unity' protesters Published: 6/03/2011 at 10:22 PM Online news: Hamas police on Sunday detained several protesters calling for unity between the Islamist group and its bitter West Bank rival Fatah, witnesses in Gaza City told AFP.
Police intervened as around a dozen young protesters sought to march towards the legislative building in Gaza City to stage a demonstration calling on the long-time political opponents to reopen reconciliation talks.
Witnesses told AFP that protesters holding signs reading ``End the Division'' were accosted by police as they marched past Gaza City's Shifa hospital.
Several demonstrators were detained, and others fled the scene. The protest that had been planned outside the legislative building did not take place.
There was no immediate comment from Hamas.
It was the second time in a week that Hamas officials have detained members of a movement calling for a shake-up in the Palestinian political scene.
On Monday, police stopped about 20 young demonstrators from holding a sit-in in Gaza City's Square of the Unknown Soldier.
One of the leading organisers of the unity movement in Gaza, Ahmed Arar, was arrested and released the following day. Hamas defended breaking up the protest, saying organisers had failed to seek a permit for the rally.
Thousands of young Palestinians have been joining groups on Facebook that call for an end to the split between Gaza's Hamas rulers and the Fatah movement, which dominates the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority.
Taking inspiration from protest movements that have toppled dictators in the Arab world, they are using social networking tools and staging small protests in the West Bank and Gaza to try to build momentum for a unity government.
Organisers hope to stage their biggest rally yet on March 15, and are using Facebook and Twitter to call on Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza and abroad to join demonstrations on that day.

This is a interesting article, a interview with a out going Palasinian negotiater , Saeb Erekat, for the Palastinians who sat for years across from his counterparts from the Israeli side in their negotiations, gives a interesting insite and describes how the sides are really not that far apart but as all things , especially in the middle east , a little ways can seem to be miles apart. Also his feeling of what the out come will be as far as the two political Palastinian parties now at loggerheads with each other, what he feels will/may be the final outcome. His suggestions iof what the Palastinians should do next in their neotiations with Natanahue and the Israelis. The interview also shows how the youth who are demonstrating in Gaza as the above post mentioned , will play a part in all this in his opinion so it's a companion piece to the article above. -------------------------------------------------------------- www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,2056746,00.html?xid=rss-world ----------------------------------------------------------- Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat Luay Sababa / Xinhua / Corbis The impact of Arabic satellite news will of course vary from country to country. If it hastened the departure of the presidents in Tunisia and Egypt, its sole victim to date in Palestine is Saeb Erekat, who sat across the table from Israeli negotiators for year after year after year of The Peace Process. The Process appeared to bite the dust about the same instant as the former university professor, holder of a Ph.D. in Peace Studies. He was done in by al-Jazeera, the Qatar-based channel that trumpeted leaked documents from Erekat's Negotiations Affairs Department of the Palestinian National Authority. The "Palestinian Papers" revealed somewhat less than al-Jazeera claimed — the channel's effort to embarrass the Palestinian authority being a good deal more obvious than the revelations the channel trumpeted. But there was embarrassment enough for Erekat, who acknowledged the leak came form his office and resigned. "Palestine will not have tanks," he says of where a future state would draw its authority. "Palestine needs to be seeded with officials who are dedicated to transparency, accountability and the rule of law." He remains in his Jericho office through March, the television in the corner tuned to al-Arabiya, the Saudi-owned alternative to al-Jazeera. Cascading from it are the images from Libya, Yemen and Bahrain that some assume will change the dynamic between the Palestinians and the Israelis. It is not an assumption shared by Erekat. "Youth power will be used against dictators," he says. Ending Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory, however, can only come about through negotiations. Erekat sees no role for the spectacular massing of nonviolent throngs — ------------------------------------------------------------------- [Click on link to read article}

Another interesting article regarding the West Bank, Palastine, it's growth under the President and the PM as they inch toward peaceful growth and prosperity as the political agreements are still a long way away but shows what the PA {Fatah} is accomplishing where as Gaza is still a different world under Hamas , and why here doing very well overall ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-josef-olmert/all-quite-on-the-west-ban_b_832068.html------------------------------------------------------------------ All Quiet on the West Bank Why is the West Bank quiet? "While the Middle East continues to be in turmoil, one region maintains an amazing degree of tranquility. This is the West Bank, ruled by the Palestinian Authority (PA), under the leadership of president Abbas and PM Fayyad. Are we witnessing another miracle made in the holy land, or are there more mundane reasons? I go with the latter. The economy of the West Bank is booming, with Chinese-like growth rates and decreasing unemployment. Political repression may still exist, but far less than that which prevails in all the neighboring states. President Abbas was elected with just 62 percent of votes, compared with Bashar Assad in Syria, whose support, when "elected", was 99.97 percent... but then, this kind of "election," is exactly what the Arab masses have revolted against. The political stability in the West Bank is particularly exemplary, when seen against the backdrop of the relentless efforts of Hamas, as well as other like-minded bad guys, to inflame troubles in the West Bank." ---------------------------------------------------------- {click on link to read article}

A possible success story , Flowers, Strawberrys,...all because of a $10,000 grant fron the Dutch, and a Arab business is born, employing Palastinians on the West bank -------------------------------------------------------------------------- www.brecorder.com/world/global-business-a-economy/5965-west-bank-farm-offers-way-out-of-settlement-work.html----------------------------------------------------------- West Bank farm offers way out of settlement work Monday, 07 March 2011 14:13 0 TAMMUN: Under the watery winter sun, a handful of Palestinian workers are plucking strawberries from row-upon-row of plants inside a sprawling greenhouse in the northern West Bank. Once upon a time, these men raised crops and flowers in hothouses in Jewish settlements scattered throughout the Palestinian territories. Now, they are working for their own people on a new venture which is being seen as a test case ahead of an official Palestinian ban on working in settlements a well-paid form of work which currently employs more than 30,000 Palestinians. "This is the first project of its type in Palestine," boasts project owner Abu Dargham, whose farm grows flowers and strawberries and it is situated on several hectares (acres) of land in Tammun village in the northern Jordan Valley. "We have to offer an alternative to the workers," he says, clicking prayer beads between his fingers. "This is an economic, national, social and political project." ------------------------------------------------- {click on link to read article}

New article regarding a proposed Israeli proposal of a temporary state in 60 % of the West Bank, turned down by Abbas, President of the Fatah{PA},,wants to have a State, join UN... --------------------------------------------------------------------------- www.upi.com/Top_News/World-News/2011/03/05/Abbas-rejects-temporary-Palestine-state/UPI-77581299355330/-------------------------------------------------------------- Abbas rejects 'temporary' Palestine state Published: March. 5, 2011 at 3:02 PM RAMALLAH, West Bank, March 5 (UPI) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas rejected an interim agreement with Israel Saturday and called for Palestine to join the United Nations. Speaking in Ramallah alongside visiting Chilean President Sebastian Pinera, Abbas said, "We know there was an idea in the past to establish a state within temporary borders, and if this idea is raised again, we won't accept it," Israel's Ynetnews reported. He said the time has come to declare a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders that would join the United Nations in September. Abbas voiced his opposition to an interim agreement Thursday, and sources in Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's office told Ynetnews he probably would drop the idea. The Palestinian leader also called on the Quartet -- Europe, the United States, Russia and the United Nations -- to take all steps "to end the Israeli aggression and the occupation of our land." Pinera, who recognized an independent Palestinian state in January, said the Palestinians "should have a sovereign state and freedom of movement." "They must be allowed to live in peace with all their neighbors in the region," he said."

Well, however it turns out dezi, I wish you the best of luck with your Hamas friends and I hope your fundamentalist Islamic revolution works out for you...I really hope your terrorist-led Palestinian pals find happiness somehow (though hopefully not the way their national charter wants it, with the death of every Jew on earth)...

ed you really should seek help my friend, For some one who has such feelings for this area you haven't a clue as to what is happening there. It's one thing to support Israel as a home for the Jews, as I do, not a secular state , that is strong and can defend themselves as there is no doubt they are surrounded by folks that wish them harm , yet you are so caught up in your hate for the Palestinians your no different then the ones who hate the Zionist only your hate is turned to the other side.
There are people on both sides who are trying to change the animosity of the past 75 years, it started way before 1948. They may not trust or even like each other , but they realize if there is ever a chance to get a normal life for all parties things have to change and that is what these little articles I have put up are showing.
They are trying . The problem is there are so many on both sides like you , so caught up in the hate and you have never , I am guessing , ever been there , or if you have , what you took away from the experience is really sick.
You probably think your helping the Israeli's by your attitude. some will agree with you but most really don't need or want that kind of support. .
You don't read these articles I put up, all you see is the header and off you go with your Hamas BS, when you know the ones I am putting up for the most part deal with the other side, that control for now the West Bank,the PA, and there are two parties here, even though you try to confuse any readers who might read these articles about that. Many are not that familiar with the situating which is another disservice that you do to your fellow members here. Very disrespectful to them, not a help, but then again ed , when did you ever post anything helpful to anyone unless they thought as you do on all issues as you feel . Naturally always wrong in your ideas and stated beliefs too .

As one couldn't blame the Jewish people for wanting a home of their own, neither can one blame the Palestinians for wanting a home of their own. It's a shame these so similar people cannot find common ground, but they cannot ... at least, not at this point. A sad commentary on humankind's treatment of one another.
