Ugh. I should hang this on my fridge. So frustrated with my game addicted 7th grader.

His "dream" is to be on the Mars mission, but he's not going to get there watching hours and hours of Star Trek Voyager instead of doing his homework.
(yesterday was report card day and this morning we got into a big tiff about him always being on his iphone, so it's a sensitive issue!)

Ouch, minnesotapaintlady - I feel you pain. Yesterday was report card day for us as well. DD would have had straight A's except for late homework. What makes it even more aggravating is we know she does the work, just forgets it at home or forgets to turn it in. AARGH!

I graduated high school in 2000 when probably more than half of the kids on campus didn't have a cell phone and our school didn't allow them because they were a distraction. I realize times have changed but you are the parent and can always take his cell phone away.

It doesn't change the fact that whenever he has it he's on it and it takes priority. This morning he lost it for a month, but his Dad thinks I should just disable the apps so he can use the phone part. Swell, I'd have to ask DS how to do that and I'm sure he could work around it somehow.

Go to an apple store and have them show you how to do it or look it up online. Kids are smart but there's more than one way to limit his usage.

One time on 6th grade he did his homework, did not turn it in, brought me a note to sign, I signed, he forgot to turn that in and got detention. I had to meet with the principal and tell them to stop because they were only along it worse. It was private school so they were probably ore willing to work with me. My son really got his act together in high school and did well in college. That is when grades really start to matter

you realize that just because he doesn't have access to his phone or video games doesn't mean he's going to do his homework, right?

you realize that just because he doesn't have access to his phone or video games doesn't mean he's going to do his homework, right? It certainly helps. He was working on homework last night. Plus, the avoidance activities are what I consider to be a lot less mindless. Reading, messing around with his telescope, playing with his brother...

DD is a senior. Has always done her homework. Has rarely turned it in. Nothing I have ever said or done has made any difference.

He just wasn't into (what he called) mindless busykeepers. He'd much rather party at that time. Today (mid-30s) he is the CEO of a mid-size company and is having a ball despite working endless hours. He refuses to get a masters though -> structured education just isn't for him. And no, he does not have a learning disability he just doesn't like it

DD is a senior. Has always done her homework. Has rarely turned it in. Nothing I have ever said or done has made any difference. Three of my kids are like this. It drives me insane. When they were younger, I would literally go to the school and pull the crap out of their desk. It was all there, just never got turned in. The oldest one at home is a senior. He just failed Econ because he couldn't be bothered to turn in 15 assignments!!!!
