is this money I use from my HSA to pay medical bills or money I take out for personal use? I did not receive a 1099-SA.

I think you are asking if funds you take out of your HSA can be used for any purpose. The answer is using HSA withdrawals for non-medical purposes is not illegal, but it causes the withdrawals to be taxable income. If used for medical costs, the HSA withdrawals are tax free.

You should have received a 1099-SA for distributions from your HSA. You need to report the distributions on Form 8889, which you would include with your tax return.

Yes, and you could still get tax documents in the mail. I just got off the phone with the service I used to create my 1099-Int, 1099-MISC and W-2's and do my e-filings. They had until February 2nd this year to mail the documents to recipients.

I didn't get one last year either and can't find one on the web site. ugh!
