i presume you were being sarcastic with your middle east comment, but why? sarcastic? No. I am surprised they are not listed, but then beheadings and bombings are probably not in the official stats. Tikrut? Anywhere in Syria? Just about anywhere in Afghanistan (although that is probably not the ME)

Anyway, four of the top fifty are here in the states. Cities named, are not too much of a surprise, but I expected even they would be in the lower listings.

a lot of these places don't have statistics. when half your people are starving to death, and your country is in chaos, studying the homicide rate is probably not a priority that even registers.

Mexico didn't surprise me at all but I never realized Brazil was such a violent country. I'm just glad Miami wasn't on that list. That's our most violent city in Florida.

We all know what the number one common denominator is on the list. Drug trafficking.

In case you are curious as to how the murder rate (or any other crime rate) is calculated...
Divide the number of murders by the city population and multiply the result by 100,000.
Weren't you just dying to know that?
ETA Forgot - I am NOT EVER moving Brazil

I was surprised not to see Chicago on the list. It seems like every time I turn around there is an article about shootings in Chicago, but it must just be some kind of bias.
