What is a grand prix? Ds started playing a while back. Definately sounds like something he'd be interested in.
All he's done so far is have the Magic version of poker night with his buddies.

I thought if you were in that area, you had to go to In-N-Out Burger, and then smugly thumb your nose at the rest of the country for not having In-N-Out Burger. Isn't that a state law, or something?

Husband is a fan of Sweet Tomatoes. I think we went twice a week for the first two months we lived here.

What is a grand prix? Ds started playing a while back. Definately sounds like something he'd be interested in. All he's done so far is have the Magic version of poker night with his buddies. Grand Prix (GPs) are the highest level competitive magic events that are completely open to the public. The winners get airfare and invites to pro tour events along with a couple thousand in prize money. There are a few dozen held each year scattered all over the planet, although most of them are in North America. They're pretty cool, if your idea of fun is a few thousand nerds in a convention center playing Magic all day for several days in a row. If he's pretty new he should find a local game/hobby store that does Friday Night Magic (FNMs) and play in those. It's the introductory level to competitive Magic. His local game store, if it doesn't suck, will also run prerelease tournaments (get to play with the new cards before they officially release), release tournaments, and Game Day events in addition to FNM. If he likes the local casual tournament scene the next step up are Grand Prix Qualifiers (GPQs) and Preliminary Pro Tour Qualifiers (PPTQs). Step up in competition level, and prizes. Then you have the Pro Tour Qualifiers (PTQs) and GPs themselves. Above that you get into the Pro Tour which is invite only, and if you have to accumulate enough points at the events to keep getting invites to the next one. So, even if you make the pro tour, if you don't perform you get dropped and have to win your way back in by grinding GP's or PTQ's. Oh Dear God that is a whole new level of geekdom. I had no idea it was that big. Here I thought it " just" a card game. I know- you're probably condemning me to Magic hell now- or whatever the equivalent is.

I think old timers still go to Original Joe's, a block east on 1st. I remember their osso buco was good, although I haven't been there in many years.
