     Mormon leaders sought Tuesday to put their conservative church on middle ground in a major culture war issue — saying for the first time that they support some legal anti-discrimination protections for LGBT people, so long as the religious freedom of those who oppose gay equality is taken into account.

     The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints staged a national news conference in Salt Lake City to promote the announcement, breaking into its own radio and television broadcasts to carry it live.

I read this the other day on the end of Scientology- and they are batting zero at recruitment.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints held a rare news conferencein Salt Lake City today that is drawing headlines about a supposedly new, accommodating stand on gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender rights.

The Mormon church is now willing, news accounts says, to support anti-discrimination legislation in the realms of housing and employment. In return, all the Mormons want are laws that “protect religious freedom.”

We already have that. It’s called the Bill of Rights. So what is the church really after?

Eh, I remember the story about what Mitt did in prep school to the weaker kid with the long hair. I don't think he is generally a good guy.

I remember when LDS suddenly had the revelation that dark skinned people were worthy of church leadership. I think it was sometime in the 1950s.

This was also around the time the feds told the church that a legal marriage was between two people, not 3+.  Joseph Smith liked playing around.

My g-g-pa was a Mormon bigamist.  While I think some of their family practices are good for moral building, some of their religious doctrine leaves me wondering about their thought process.

That was actually "around" the mid to late 1800's.

The LDS Mormons (not the off-shoots) still have their own secrecy when it comes to the Church.

When my Protestant niece became engaged to an LDS, she had to convert in order for them to be married within the inner sanctum of the Mormon Temple. (If she hadn't converted they'd still be able to marry, just not within the temple's inner sanctum.

My brother (her dad) and her mom were not allowed into the inner temple to give their daughter away. They had to watch the ceremony on CC TV in the lobby of the Temple.

They (LDS)have many secrets - as do the Freemasons/Masonic Lodge connected to them.
