I wasn't sure how to add "Update" to the title of the original thread, but here's the link. Briefly, the local ballet (medium-size city, very good one) sent me a note requesting donations to send kids from the Boys' and Girls' Club of America to the Nutcracker last month, at $50 per kid. notmsnmoney.proboards.com/thread/42488/poor-people-send-nutcracker?page=3Although we usually donate to more practical charities, such as the local women's shelter, this one really struck me. I've seen The Nutcracker in at least 6 venues I can think of, and had had the wonderful privilege of being with people (mostly kids) seeing it for the first time. So, I sent them a $200 donation. Yesterday I got a letter from the Ballet telling me how much the kids loved it and enclosing a copy of a delightful picture one of them had drawn of the ballet and including the dancers, the tree, Drosselmayr, the enchanted clock, Clara and the falling snowflakes. OK, they're never on the stage all at once but the drawing really captured it! And THAT"s how you get repeat donations. You can bet I'll send more kids next year!

When our daughter was about 3 or 4 we took the kids to "The Nutcracker". That was the first time that I've seen my daughter sitting so still and quiet that it surprised me. She made it through the whole show without even moving or saying a word, highly unusual for her! Fell in love with ballet/dancing immediately and that ensued a few years of classes which was good for her in regards to discipline. Since then I don't believe she missed a show of "The Nutcracker" in summer time.

This year will still be too early; maybe next year at a matinee.

See, I would've sent you a picture of a kid getting kicked in the nuts, along with one of Nelson Muntz saying "ha ha". I doubt I would've gotten repeat donations, but it would be worth it.

So, if I set up a GoFundMe site to buy more tickets, is my donation still tax-deductible?

Well, I'm sure a few kids drew pictures like that, but they wisely selected one that warmed the hearts of rich empty-nester Grandmother types!

Which begs the question, when people of my generation become rich empty-nester grandmother types, will they prefer the nutshot/Nelson combo? One can only hope.

Make this poor child feel happiness again. Send $25 to Archiethedragon and you too can make a difference in one child's life.

I told him last year (at just a few days old) that he had to grow up quick;y because I want to take him to Disneyland. WEEEEELLLLLL... DIL heard that and was "no way, we want to take him". Turns out she never once had a chance to go as a child due to back issues. They took pity on me though and said I could come along when the time comes
