It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

I've been expecting this. IMO, good that Muqrin has been appointed Crown Prince immediately. That should help to make the succession go more smoothly. My condolences to the people of the Kingdom.

Let us hope so. With Iran building two new reactors, and staging a coup / takeover of Yemen while little Barry twiddles his thumbs, we don't need trouble in Saudi Arabia.

No, we certainly don't. Neither do they. Neither does the Middle East as a whole. I expect Salman to continue with Abdullah's approach.

We don't need two threads with the same title, Paul. I'm going to combine this thread with the one in Current Events.

No, we certainly don't. Neither do they. Neither does the Middle East as a whole. I expect Salman to continue with Abdullah's approach. Caught this little blurb sandwiched in a longer article from Debka latest.. "His successor, Prince Salman, is 78. Next in line to the throne is Prince Muqrin, aged 69-70, who takes over as Crown Prince. Muqrin will be the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia in view of Salman’s health condition – he is reputed to be suffering dimentia"
While I know the same has been attributed to many of our elected officials , highest and lowest..still to be so kind of takes me aback...Things are done differently I guess in the kingdom...

These princes are the last of the sons of King Ibn Saud, so all of them are old. Muqrin, I believe, is the youngest and next in line for succession. As to the dementia, I really don't know whether Salman suffers from dementia, as rumored. Like most rumors, it might have truth and it might not.

I guess it will remain somewhat predictable for perhaps 10 to 15 years.... the question is who takes over when Muquin is incapacitated? Aren't there possibly several hundred slightly less old guys who have some claim to the throne? Which even begs the question of how much authority the King really has - considering he's probably got strings attached to the Head Cleric (that's where he gets his 'power' from) and then the strings attached to the Family. Hmmm, wasn't Abdullah a de facto ruler a decade or so after Fahd had a stroke or something? The Whole Middle East politics makes my brain hurt.

For those who might have questions regarding the succession and ideas of the new rulers the following article might have some of the answers.. www.aljazeera.com/news/middleeast/2015/01/saudi-king-pledges-continuity-150123213746927.htmlI know that the Muslem bury their dead quickly, simile to those of the Jewish faith but didn't know that there are no markings of the graves..I take it it is not the custom to visit the grave site ..possible remembering is done privetly or at home..
