This is probably way TMI but I figure this is a good place to post it.
Is minor incontinence more of an issue than it used to be, or am I seeing more references because it's became Big Business? First there were the small pads, now there's a plastic "stopper" type thing, and you can also buy disposable panties which seem to be a little less bulky than Depends. All the ads are directed at post-menopausal women.
I guess I should be grateful this isn't a problem for me? A couple of years ago I was at a department team-building event at SkyZone (rooms full of trampolines where we were playing volleyball and bouncing a lot) and the bubbly, attractive 50-something coworker next to me mentioned that "childbirth is the pits" and had left her with minor leakage problems that the jumping made worse.
How common is this? It sure would limit your life.

I'm losing more hair, not gobs but more then I think I should , I'm pretty concerned about it. May see if the doc will test me for TSH levels next week and see if they need adjusted up. I've read those levels can cause hair loss either to much or to little. I was just going to post this. I'm losing a ton again and am back to trying to cover scalp. I'm about ready to shave my head and get a wig. My ex-SIL has been bald since she was a kid from Turner Syndrome (I think that's what it was) and she has this great wig. I never even knew she was bald until recently. Or maybe I'll just shave my head and forget the wig.

Well, I'm not vain, I spend minimal time getting myself ready. No makeup or fancy clothes, I'm a jeans and tee shirts kind of girl. But I'm not ok with losing my hair at all.

I'm a little vain in some ways. I'm a jeans and tee shirt kind of girl too, and wear minimal makeup (eyeliner and lipstick), but I like to be able to look really nice when I want to.
I had a hair coloring mishap a couple months ago and my hair started breaking off in some of the lighter sections. That's never happened before and it seriously bothered me. I'm ok with getting my hair cut short if that's what I want, having it break off or come out is something completely different. My hair has always grown pretty fast, but I know things tend to change as the years pass, so that's another concern. Hopefully I can wait a while before I cut it to even the the lengths up. If I do it now, my hair will be much shorter than the style I've been letting grow out. So far, the breakage isn't noticeable enough that anyone has commented on it, yes I know people that will. I just keep babying it and trying not to look too closely so I don't get upset.
Every woman I personally know would rather keep her hair on her head, whether she just lets it do what it does, keeps it styled all the time or does something in the middle.

I am really low-maintenance, but if I started losing my hair I would be upset as well. I think that's pretty normal.
I have really dry skin on my cheeks. Nothing is working. It feels like sandpaper to the touch. I think it looks okay, though I do sometimes get some flaking. Any ideas? I've tried everything I can think of.

I can guarantee it. I went grey during my divorce. My mom wasn't even grey yet and my grandma was just a little bit.

I read something about not using anything with microbeads in it, going have to find that, not good for you or something. Not good for the water supply. The tiny plastic beads are building up and aren't filtered by most waste treatment facilities.

Coconut oil and that stuff from Walgreens that you use to take makeup off but don't rinse off. myceller water or something like that? I$7.99. I also use Costco facial wipes. I do the coconut oil on my chest, neck, and hands especially cuticles and then on my hair but not my roots or scalp. Some people do but it makes my scalp itch and greasy.

Hair loss can be caused by thyroid issues. In addition to the thyroid blood check, a T4 needs to be done. My DD has thyroid problems.
Allergies can cause dark circles under your eyes. That is my issue. I am mid-60s. So glad to be in menopause.
Women in their 40s go into peri-menopause. I wish I would have known that when I was in my 40s. I would have started Estroven.
Best wishes. Aging sucks but we can keep busy enough to not notice so much.

Oh, and Hot flashes suck donkey b@ll$. I went through 2 1/2 months of sheer hot flash hell earlier this year. I was literally dripping soaking wet multiple times an hour. I was waking up a zillion times a night, flinging blankets and nightgowns off, sleeping on towels because the bed would be damp all night. I went for around 100 days with no period and then about 50 days. I've had 2 periods in the last 6 months. I had hot flashes for about 6 weeks 2 years ago (I was 45) and they were no where near as bad. I started taking GNCs menopause supplement this time, and it was the only thing that worked for me although it took over a month to kick in. I have no idea if I would have the hot flashes again if I quit the supplement but I have no intention of finding out.

Pat, I was talking to my neighbor and I could smell her dryer and it smelled yummy so asked her what she uses because I know that she, like DH, has skin sensitivity to scented laundry soap. Her son, a chemist, told her to use Persil which you can obtain at Walmart. He also said that the stuff they take out of laundry soap so it isn't scented or irritating is also the stuff that cleans clothes which explains why I use a LOT more detergent to try to get clothes clean. This Persil is able to do both. Clean clothes and not irritate skin. Just a thought.

I got the hormonal IUD removed! I'm not excited about the prospect of getting periods again, but I'm so excited to find out if that's what's been causing all my hair loss issues. Of course, it will be a long time before I know.

I never knew there was such an IUD. I do hope it helps reduce your other issues having it removed.
Maybe not so long. A friend was tormented by hot flashes. She has cut out a lot of supplements she was taking as well as allergy meds. It's helped somewhat.

My scalp felt like it was burning sometimes. Of course, it was at the same time as all kinds of other things going on in my life and the doctors (women's health and dermatology) all said it was stress and would come back. They all said it couldn't be the Mirena, and I kept taking the wait and see approach, but I've since read lots of stuff online from women complaining about hair loss and two and a half years later it's just getting worse and not better. I cringe when anyone tags me in a picture on Facebook. Please, don't put pictures of me out there!!

If it makes you feel any better, I recently saw my brother for the first time in years and got a good idea of what my chin would look like if I didn't scrape it once or twice a day. His growth is jet black, straight out, and coarse.
I'm not happy about the scraping, but it is nice to get some confirmation that bleaching, tweezing, waxing, and zapping probably wouldn't be enough. I'd like to think that I choose my battles well and what I save by skipping the salon can pay for a lot of Bonera or, if invested well, can finance a few months of early retirement when the back or the knees start telling me, "No mas".

I have a hair appointment next month and I'll see what she thinks. I think it's thinner. I think that is getting discontinued since I also have acid reflux from hell every day even on a small dose. It did make the migraines stop though. The hair thing is the worst. I hope getting rid of the IUD stops it.

Of course, neither one of the drugs lists hair loss as a possible side effect. I get horrible migraines too. Just started about 5 or 6 years ago, so not a lifelong thing, but they were getting very frequent. My doctor put me on amitriptyline and man, I love that stuff. I take it before I go to bed and it knocks me out, but I've gone from 8-10 days of migraines a month to maybe one not so bad one that is easily knocked out with Imitrix.

I tried that first and it did nothing. This has taken away the headaches mostly and the migraines entirely. I never got them until a nasty car wreck.

It really sucks when you find something that works and then it causes other problems. I loved the IUD and not having to buy other birth control, but it's driving me nuts thinking it's what's causing the hair loss so I'll deal with the periods again. Choosing migraines is tough though! I hope you can find something else that works.
