www.kcra.com/politics/boehners-bartender-planned-to-assassinate-him/30687840
Police said Hoyt told them he heard voices that told him Boehner is evil, and that he wanted to expose the Ohio Republican as the devil. He blamed Boehner for the Ebola outbreak and believed the speaker was among a group of country club patrons who complained about his service and cost him his job.
Police seized guns and ammunition from the man's home. They said he kept a notebook that contained the words "John Boehner" and "Ebola," and that Hoyt had been treated for a psychotic episode about two years ago. Police placed Hoyt on a 72-hour psychiatric ward hold
Does the 2nd amendment cover people with psychotic episodes that were involuntarily committed? Wonder what Mr. Orange thinks about it......

I'm actually having a hard time figuring out from your post exactly why he was arrested? Did he DO anything? I probably have the words "John Boehner" and "ebola" here on my laptop somewhere...

It would have to be something serious if they committed him for 72 hours. Uttering threats, maybe.

OK, read the article- there sure is a lot of "police said" in there, and not much substance.
I guess we'll have to follow this one.

"Hoyt told the officer he was Jesus Christ and he was going to kill Boehner because Boehner was mean to him at the country club and because Boehner is responsible for Ebola," United States Capitol Police Special Agent Christopher Desrosiers reported. "Hoyt advised he had a loaded Beretta .380 automatic and he was going to shoot Boehner and take off."
So the police say.......I am sure they are making it up Up to you- you want to let him have his guns or not? I say no.
BTW anyone else have a bartender? Guess I'd be a drunk too if I had to go to congress and push the kind of bullshit he does on the American people.

That's REALLY interesting coming from you. Normally, if the police had shot this man as he came running at them with an RPG, you would be saying there was no need for that kind of police violence.

This isn't a police shooting and I am not defending bonehead, just the idea that taking guns away from nut cases is a good idea.

You're right. If Rep. Boehner ever got shot, the US would lose its last true leader. You're coming around, sir. Bit by bit, you're coming around.

Boehner should stay true to his belifs and not press charges or any thing. Moreover he should demand that the man be released. After all is his sacred right to bear arms.
That ofcourse if he didn't started crying already and asked that the man be put on death row. That would fit more his character!

Alleged nutcase. sure, because perfectly normal, healthy people think that they are Jesus Christ and John Boehner is Satan, who brought Ebola to the planet to poison us.

Sorta. One of the things you learn in the military is that you have to respect the position. Respecting the man is totally optional. I served under Lil Bush. I legally had to follow lawful orders from my superiors, including the Commander In Chief. I saluted his motorcade when it drove by. I would have saluted him if I'd run into him in person. The actual man was an incompetent moron that got several thousand of my brothers and sisters killed in a pointless war to enrich his oil company cronies. The Patriot Act was the single most damaging piece of legislation, when it comes to the state infringing on the rights of US citizens, that's been passed in generations. The actual man was a piece of shit that could have been tried for war crimes and if we decided to hang him up somewhere by his nuts as an example to others I'd help hoist the rope. I realize respecting today's leaders is far more easily said than done. Frankly, the most I expect from people is that they check their speech, speak evil of politicians as little as possible, and only if absolutely necessary to get a greater point across.

The NYPD is not the military, and the Mayor is not a General. I would think you would be happy about that.

You're right. If Rep. Boehner ever got shot, the US would lose its last true leader. You're coming around, sir. Bit by bit, you're coming around. the US would lose its last true leader truly orange leader. **Fixed You can at least explain the perma-tan of Charlie Crist in Florida. Boehner's fake bake is about ridiculous. Boehner is the kind of guy that is indicative of the problem of both parties being more interested in wielding power for themselves than representing the voters. Speaking of which, I'd like to throw out an alternate theory- this man (from the OP) is a bartender. Bartenders (I was one) get to see and hear things other people don't. They're like priests, but their flock are lubricated at the jawbone. And as we all know, people say and do things while inebriated that they don't otherwise say or do. Suppose the real issue with this guy is that he was blackmailing Boehner? I'm not saying the guy isn't a little "off" and that makes it easier for Boehner to trash the guy, and discredit him. But instead of simply discrediting him, but still having to endure the questions about whether or not he (fill-in-the-blank); he has the guy rounded up, and charged with a crime so that he has to lawyer up and can't go yammering on about whatever it is he was going to say. Or, even better- the guy ends up tucked away in an institution. And of course the action serves another purpose: a warning to anyone else that might have it in their heads to cross Boehner this way. Do I think this is what happened? Probably not- but who knows? As I've said, all we have is "police said". We have no corroborating witnesses or access to the evidence.

What I would like to see is for everyone who carries a gun from the top brass at the Pentagon to the lowliest NYPD recruit-- is more concern for their oath to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic, than concern for respecting offices, uniforms, and following orders. Imagine if every cop in the country understood roadside checkpoints are illegal and unConstitutional and refused orders to establish them in spite of the erroneous court rulings in support of them?

Court rulings are not 'in support of them'. They only allow them in certain situations.
But gotta love Paul's idea- aka chaos. Everyman is an armed officer of the Constitution and takes orders from nobody

If the legislative, executive, and judicial branch all agree that something is constitutional then it is. I don't personally see the constitutional justification for roadside checkpoints (protection from unreasonable search and all), but I'm not a constitutional lawyer either. Incorrect. It is ultimately up to We The People to enforce the Constitution. They've been getting away with this because it has been tolerated.

i don't generally have access to official information. however, in this case, i know this guy was fired for erratic behavior, and there seems to be ample basis for concluding that he was troubled. i mean, really- kill Boehner? that is like wanting to kill Vanna White.

Roadside checkpoints are very limited because of the Constitution so apparently they are at least considering it.
(Of course there is nothing to stop police from ignoring that and doing what they want anyway- how many people have the $$$$ to fight it)
I am all for a criminal penalty for any government agency or agent that willfully violates the Constitution starting with the top brass that allow it.
