It is ALL.OVER. our second floor and we have high ceilings. I really should just start peeling that ugly thing off. My oldest already wants to repaint his bedroom, I don't blame him. There were mostly women living here before we bought the house, I have no idea how husband survived starring at that crap for 20 yrs! just start taking it down....as you see it disappear you'll be motivated to keep getting rid of it.....as for you and your DH having different furniture tastes - let him furnish his 'man ave' and you get the furnish the rest of the house. |

It's nothing exciting, yogiii is just giving me a hard time Previous owners were husband, wife and 2 daughters, so all the bathrooms and bedrooms are covered in flowery wall paper. I know a lot of people who get rid of furniture that isn't wrecked. People redecorate, move, combine households, downsize, pass away, etc... There are nice neighborhoods that have annual yard sales and it's usually pretty easy to pick up a piece that goes with what you already have. It's also possible to repair and restore furniture. Sofas and mattresses I'd rather get new, or from someone I know, but the rest is just wood/metal and is easy enough to fix-up. Buying new has never been a quick process for me anyway. It's very rare that I find something I love, as is, with no reservations, might as well pick up something cheap in the interim.

We eat on the couch but enforce a No food in bedrooms rule. It's funny because one of the kids will wander in to my room with a cheese stick and the other will point out "no eating/food in the bedrooms" mainly to continue having mommy time.

These are the chairs I like. The person has been trying to sell the set on craigslist for a few months. My thought is that they may change their mind of selling the chairs separately if it takes they too long and they haven't sold anything.  Archie - the reason that is so expensive is because it is a matched dining room set of MCM (mid-century modern) that is in pristine condition - those pieces are most likely from the early 1960's. Your best bet will be to try to find chairs without a table and probably new as those chairs are at least 50 years old and made of teak. A few years ago, I realized that I knew nothing about furniture, not even what I liked. So I started reading up on home design and really looking at furniture - I have been having a lot of fun learning. If I may ask, what area did you see it posted and how much were they asking? |

My kids are such pigs. After they're done eating, the floor and chairs are covered with food. I have pretty light carpet in the living room and can't imagine letting them eating anything but popcorn in there. Even then every few months I move the couch and there is tons underneath. We had a mouse issue and one time I moved the couch and there was the fattest mouse you ever saw sitting in a pile of popcorn and cheerios.

I agree. But selling it as a full set in CT will be tough. They are asking $1800 for the entire set which includes the side board and the table and chairs. If we didn't have a dinning room set I would buy it all up in a sec. If they were selling this in Manhattan I think it would also get bought up quickly. in the rural part of CT... not so much. Don't people from NYC shop in CT? Assuming it is in good condition, $1800 is a steal for that set no matter where it is - $1800 is pretty close to FMV for sideboard alone. Problem is that most likely no one there knows what it is - best price I have seen on that type if chair in decent shape was $300 for four.
Hopefully you can find what you want at the price you want. I am looking for a coupe if specific pieces of MCM by Lane from the Modern Rhythms line. I eventually want to complete my parents bedroom set for use in my next home so I see many different pieces in many markets - still kicking myself for waiting a day to call on a pristine bedside/end table for $80 last summer - it was worth $250-300.

HoneyBBQ - when does it arrive? I really like that dark neutral gray and I bet it will be great for working with different colors as well as hiding a lot. I also ended up going with JCP and was pleasantly surprised delivery was only $125 here on the Central Coast. One of the bad things about being halfway between SFO and LAX is that shopping and shipping can be a royal PITA. |
