www.foxnews.com/us/2015/01/05/hedge-fund-founder-reportedly-killed-by-son-in-manhattan-apartment/?intcmp=trending
“He was cutting his allowance,” a source said. “He had been giving him $2,400 a month for rent and $600 for spending money, and he was cutting that to $400 a month for spending money.”
Gilbert Jr. also attended Princeton, graduating in 2009 with a degree in economics. It wasn't immediately clear whether the son worked with the father, but he was not listed on the company's website. www.cnn.com/2015/01/05/us/hedge-fund-founder-death/
At the scene, officers found a gun resting on Gilbert Sr.'s chest, with his left hand covering it, NYPD Chief of Detectives Bob Boyce told reporters.
They saw what they perceived to be a staged crime scene, Boyce said, and set up surveillance at the son's apartment.
Officers executed a search warrant at the son's apartment and found several pieces of potential evidence: magazine clips, loose rounds, a manufacturer's box of a Glock .40 caliber and a shell casing envelope with the serial number of the gun recovered at the crime scene, according to Boyce
Wow- what kind of parent gives a 30 year old kid an allowance- especially one with an Ivy League degree. $3000 a month!?!?! #RichPeopleProblems
Did the idiot not even spend some of his free time watching CSI- Princeton material my ass. Got in like Bush got into Yale.

It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

Yea you'd think it be common sense that the gun would fall from where you shoot it in a suicide, not fall nicely on ones chest.

This will not happen as the Democrats would always be able to say the Republicans did it. And the 51% will vote their pocketbook, even though it is not their pocketbook.

That's interesting. I've never really thought about it, but it's thing: "microstamping". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firearm_microstampingI'm going to the range tomorrow anyway- now, I'm curious. If it does work, that's rather ingenious. I have a G21 (.45 cal) Glock- I don't think I've got the tech because it's a 2002 or 2003 (I bought it used in a private sale) model. The wife has a new (2014) 9mm-- might have to take hers for test drive.

I am assuming that it was the usual proof casing you get with a new gun- you only buy used? Background check problems?

I got curious after reading the article that they found shell casings with the gun's serial # on it, and I got to wondering how in the hell a gun's serial number could get on a shell casing?

I just pulled out the box my last pistol came in- sure as shit there is a small envelope with a proof case in it- on it is a sticker and it has the manufacturer, the FFL, the technician's name, the date, the serial number, number of grooves and pitch-whatever the hell that is- says 10 inch R.
I'd like to thank Arsenio Cepeda for making sure my Bersa worked.

Grooves and pitch refers to the rifling of the barrel. There's 1 full turn of the rifling per 10 inch and it pitches (turns) to the right (clockwise).

I know what the rifling means, left or right twist, grooves- I am a gun person- but never heard of pitch.
But I don't exist anyway- all liberals want to confiscate guns right

I thought there was a thread on this already? Hey, it has only been posted for two days now. Sometime soon a mod who politically agrees with this poster's ideals, might merge it very fast.
Then again, maybe not.

This guy was a real prince. Already in legal trouble for burning down a home in some seaside town (he was sparring with the son of the home's owner over some woman).
I agree with Buffet and Bill Gates, people who become fabulously wealthy shouldn't leave much of that to their children. Make sure the kid knows he has to leave the nest and become self supporting once he graduates college. Certainly not all the kids of wealthy people end up like this spoiled sociopath, but you see enough stories like this that I would be damn sure my kids didn't feel entitled.

How is that different from the thread about the terrorists in Paris then somehow equating to Christians?

How is that different from the thread about the terrorists in Paris then somehow equating to Christians? Because some people on that thread were indicating that all Muslims want to kill the rest of us - which is no more true than saying all Christians hate gays as much as the Westboro Baptists do. Using a story about a spoiled brat hedge fund manager's kid to insert a barb about Obama claiming to have fixed the economy is a stretch.

And is it just me, or is $3,000 the kind of paltry monthly sum that doesn't come to mind when you hear the words "hedge fund"? $36,000 a year? I made that bartending part time, on top of my full time $39,000 salary as a sales data administrator on my first "real" post college job. And yes, I considered many times quitting that job and just bartending full time. Still not sure why I didn't. I'd have made $80K or more (fine dining in Naperville was a lucrative deal at the time).
