Thank you! I am thinking of her too. She struggles but then reminisces the good times. And they had a lot of good times. He was in the midst of writing down stories from his life and the lives of interesting people he knew. Actually he was recording them, so when the time is right I'll have a chance to hear his stories in his voice

I'm still around. Been licking my wounds for a little while since being let go at work. My savings goals are still on track. I have a little excess in my "misc savings" that can go towards some of the other goals, but right now, I'm leaving it alone until I get a job. I should note that I do have a $1000 EF in place as well. As for the job, I have had 2 really good interviews and am currently waiting on offers. I received a call today on one of them, but they want me to take a job at a $9,000 paycut from what I was making at the job I just left. I told them that I can't take that much of a paycut... He is going to take it back to the bosses and see if they can come up any. I need to get caught up on my reading the posts. ~ Acemom

Just want to make a quick post to let people know I'm alive. I am going to have to revisit the goals and the plan, so my next update will show some pretty big changes. We sold the condo and deposited the check yesterday (full funds won't be available until next week, but we're not planning on spending them yet). We just got back from the vacation- spending less than budgeted. Right before we left for vacation, we spent around $4,700 from the emergency fund for car repairs.
I need to sit down with YNAB and figure everything out, then talk with C about what new goals might be.

I've decided to dive in. I am taking on the weekly challenge and adding a daily challenge. I am also hoping to save an additional $2000 to pay for my ski season expenses for next winter. The daily challenge is the same as the weekly challenge, except I am saving one penny on day one and increasing the amount saved each day by a penny. Over the course of a 365-day year the total saved for a daily challenge will be $667.95. I will address the daily and weekly challenge the way forwardwego does, not necessarily in order. I opened an ING Savings Account (it will always be ING to me) and put $52 in it today. This savings is in addition to my deferred compensation account and Roth IRA. Movinonup 4/22/2015 $52 (Goal $4045.95)
| Saved | Goal | Weekly Challenge | $52.00 | $1378.00 | Daily Challenge | $0.00 | $667.95 | Skiing | $0.00 | $2000.00 |

Life changes. My dear BIL's funeral, a basic but nice arrangement, came to $8K. Sis signed over the $5K life insurance. And there were a few "memorial donations"...guessing about $500. The plan is to meet with the funeral home in @ 90 days to set up payments or charge the balance. I had planned to go with my sis when I'm in Ohio the end of Jun/ beginning of Jul. Not really sure what would happen, but envisioning I would help even if I had to charge it. I've been thinking how depressing that meeting is going to be. And how sad for her (or me) to pay on that month after month . So I've "reset" my weekly challenge as if I had done it ascending...the way it was originally presented. My weekly savings goal is still $1378 for the year. I may have to proceed in the "ascending fashion" the next couple months, but hope to be back to the "maximum tackle" method before long. That $500 was sent to the funeral home, which leaves @ $2K balance. (I'm guessing here because the funeral home can't really tell me, and I'm trying to do this without my sister knowing.) End of May is our "extra check", which combined with some other adjustments will cover that $2K. I will turtle for a couple months, except for the tree removal fund. Yesterday a crow landed on the tree and the limb broke under its weight With hurricane season starting in June...not good. Thanks for being here savers and keep up the good work!

seriousthistime - love the question! Thank you for posing it, it helps us each be thoughtful. I may be a little late on the uptake here, but you asked: What expense did you avoid, and what did you do with the money you saved?
So far in April, I haven't avoided much. With 6 days remaining in April, however, I'm determined to spend <$20 on food. Since my sublet starts on 6/1, I need to start working my way through the pantry and freezer. I'll leave myself a 'budget' of $20/week for fresh produce and yogurt, dairy, etc. Thanks for helping me focus!

I won't be able to give my update until Thursday when my final April income numbers are in, but the next 2-3 months look very "lean" to say the least. I'll probably have minimal savings. On the plus side, DS sold over 50 hanging plants for Scouts and get's $10 or $11/each into his account out of the deal. That is going to cover a lot of the $1300 Sea Base trip I was saving for. I might not have to put away anything next year like I thought I was going to have to.

Lovely trip. Nothing bad happened, no matter where we were or what the weather was like we had fulfilling adventures, everybody was happy 100% of the time. I can now say I've had a candlelit bubble bath outside in the woods.

Just a quick non-money update... I was offered the job from the second interview and I start next Monday! I did end up having to take a paycut, but not as much as the other job. The benefits are great and there is a lot more room for advancement and they also have a great bonus plan. If the company reaches it's financial goals (which they are well on track for) and i get an "average" review, I get 15% bonus. So I will keep on with my savings goals here, and hopefully be able to add in a little extra now and then! forwardwego - I'm so sorry to hear about your BIL. He sounds like he was a great man. It's nice that you are trying to help your sister as well. <<hugs>> to you! Ombud - congrats on the grandbaby! PauletteG - that bubble bath sounds amazing! I get so bored in baths, but being outside would be pretty cool! movinonup - welcome! I also do the 52 week challenge and am not doing it in order. As long as it gets there at some point!!!

UPDATE
megaptera: 4/29/2015 $3,900.00 [1/1/2015 $0.00 / Goal: $15,000]
Well, it's not a great update. Due to decreased income and increased expenses (hopefully both temporary); we weren't able to save for this particular item this month. (Retirement/EF/etc. all still on track.)
Hopefully May will be better!

Well...ready to allocate for May. Not a great month. Things are going to be extremely tight, and probably will be through the Summer. I was only able to do my $200 college savings and $50 towards a replacement car. But, I knew these months were coming which is why I piled everything I could in early on when it was there.

Similar to minnesotapaintlady I'm into some "slimmer savings", but that will change. Can't say it enough that I'm so glad to be here. Because of WIR even during lean months my savings is growing and my debt is shrinking. Good work savers! Thanks for motivating me with your progress, determination, and resourcefulness.

Hello Savers,
It's the first of the month already. I plan to do updates Sunday morning, so please get your updates posted ASAP if you haven't already done so.
Good job everyone! Can't wait to see who's gotten a new star, another rose, and some new smilies!

Update! Minnesotagirl7: 5/3/15 $5,100 (1/1/15 Start $0 / Goal $10,000)Serious, I changed my tagline a little. I noticed you had me down as 75% of the way to my goal, and while that was true for my overall savings, for this particular goal I wasn't quite that far along. But I'm 50% of the way there now, woo hoo! Let me know if I need to change/add anything else. Thanks for keeping this up and for the shoutout!!

We have a new member. Welcome to movinonup! Looking forward to seeing your updates. We have another rose on board (Yay me!) and a few people very close to getting more roses. Two members have not posted updates for two months and are now on the active list -- but could become active with a post/update at any time. Hear that, runmarathons and bankergurl? Four others also on the inactive list are DVM gone riding, tobinikui, dogmom, and coffeegirl. Shoutouts to follow later today.

Small progress. I am tackling the largest denomination days/weeks first. I figured this strategy will probably work best for me since I expect to have more expenses later in the year, and thus a reduced ability to save. -movinonup

Serious, I think I'll always miss your cut off date for posting updates. I get paid at the end of each month and my automatic deposit happens on the 3rd of each month. You know, a pay yourself first, kind of philosophy.

When we were in Palm Springs DH and I decided we both want to push Iceland to summer of '16.
