While I am not big on "New Year's resolutions" I have discovered that setting goals seems to work well for me. What are your goals and aspirations, financial and otherwise, for this new year? Mine are simple: - continue to gain fitness via hiking and rock hounding - I am aiming for 30K in income this year from self-employment. I have an outline on how to accomplish this and the work is already started. - I have to deal with my taxes and I have to roof my house this year. So, this year in my life is all about generating more income and dealing with repair issues.

Good for you! Financially, I just want to save money. We saved and spent a lot the past couple of years because of our wedding and trip to Aruba. Personally, I want to complete both the Broad Street Run (10 miles) and the Philly Half in respectable times.

Today is my first day I can join Silver Slippers. I am going to work on diet and exercise this year and join Silver Slippers in the next week or so. Silver Slippers is free from my health insurance, you can join a gym free if you are the right insurance and on Medicare. The gym is near enough my house that I don't have an excuse not to go. I have one that is huge with lots of machines and aqua aerobics twice a day and one at the hospital with a pool and a few machines and most who use it are elderly or had heart attacks already so not a bunch of hunks and more careful staff. I am joining the one with more cute hunks for better scenery while working out.

I've been waiting for this thread! My goals: Eat healthier (my next shopping list looks nothing like my last did) STOP FOOLISH BUYING! I sneaked in one last night, before the new year. I ordered leopard shooties. Get more exercise--I've really gotten lazy. Get out more--I've gotten really lazy!

I thought I lose 2 or 3 days vacation every year at work. but when I lost or didn't use 7 days in 2014. I took a look at previous years. 2013 I didn't use 5 days, 2009 4 days.
now in 2015 I earned another day to a total of 20 days to use this year. so that is my promise / resolution for 2015 do not lose no more than 2 days vacation this year.

2015 I will fix my health. Have 5 appointments to keep with 2 already agreed dates, have to make the rest and follow thru. If I get troubles fixed then I am very happy for this year. @ezzie what is a leopard shootie? I never hear of these shooties. I look up. Like this?

Back to doing yoga regularly.
Back to writing in my food diary... Not skipping it just because I want to eat to tomatoes, et al.
Back to YNAB.
The last few months since we got back from vacation have been like Sodom and Gomorrah around here...

I'm going to shut up that nasty mean girl voice than runs through my head. I don't talk to other people like that, so why should I talk to myself like that?

I am going to continue running. I started last April after an epiphany of sorts. I ran 235 miles between the end of April and yesterday. So for 2015, I am hoping to top 300 miles. Only 296.9 to go I hope that I pick up more private tutoring jobs. I have averaged $100 a month for Oct, Nov, and Dec. When my twins start kindergarten in August this year, I hope to find a part time job using my Spanish skills. Of course I hope for health and happiness for all of my loved ones. And to save closer to 20% of dh's salary - we are at 15% lately.

Tootsie, are there homeschool groups in your area? ... Ours always have someone looking for a Spanish teacher.

Oped - I haven't looked much into homeschool groups because I am home with the twins for now, though I plan to start looking closer to the next school year. There is a great non profit that provides translation services for new immigrants, and I plan to volunteer there one day a week and see where it leads. There is also the possibility of substitute teaching. I will have to be the flexible one with the kids because dh's job is pretty demanding, but I plan to maximize the time while they are in school. I have friends that have had success with online teaching but I think I need to be around people more. Sorry to go off topic

Be kinder to myself. And more selfish (within reason). I've had a tendency to try to make everyone but myself happy and be the responsible, go-to person who makes everything right. I started changing that last year, and life got better. I need to continue to work on that this year.
Be healthier. I ate healthier last year for the most part. Now I need to add in a reasonable exercise component. And drink more water. I hate water!
Be more socially active. I'm an extreme introvert and always find reasons not to do group things. I want to do at least one fun, frivolous group thing each month. And ideally I'd like to start volunteering. I've looked locally and there aren't that many opportunities and I'm not interested in commuting an hour each way to volunteer.

I don't know that I make resolutions/goals anymore. And I don't think this is the year to make plans.
I have to figure out what I'm doing with my career. Lots of questions, I expect some answers to present themselves.
I need to work on balance and time management.
I also miss me, though, though finding "me" again is not compatible with my current life. (I can't exactly quit my jobs and start practicing 4-6 hours a day for fulfillment.)
I think, I'm at the point where I need to see how life unfolds, and I will proceed accordingly. I'm finding the past few years that I dictate less and less over my life, but instead I only dictate how I will react to whatever situation is being thrust upon me.

I keep typing up and deleting stuff because I don't really want to commit to doing things. I will be keeping an eye on my anxiety and possibly getting some help for that. Related to my anxiety, I need to increase my ability to drive in this ridiculous city. I went from being able to get everywhere I needed/wanted to go (although often taking less crowded routes/timing things advantageously), to having a handful of routes that don't make me hyperventilate at the thought of driving on when we moved here. I am what I am and if it turns out that I need to medicate to function in this area, we will be relocating, but I'd really like to get this under control.

I want to improve my health which hopefully leads to weight loss. I've been working out lately, but I often have these exercise bursts, so the big thing will be keeping it up for the long haul. A celebration moment for me this week is that usually after a vacation interrupts my working out I make some excuses for myself. I like to do a T/Th/Sat weight training, and it would be easy to saw screw it I was gone until Friday let's start again next week. But instead I am going to work out today and Sunday then get back to the usual times next week. This means I only missed 1 workout instead of 3. So I am hoping to make small changes like this that really add up. Being consistent and more reasonable with what I do to keep up for the long term instead of intense bursts that are impossible to sustain which have led to my current state.
Other health related things is that I will floss every day. I try to now, but I'm at like 4-6 times a week some weeks. I'm also going to make sure I get to all my regular checkup appointments. I've missed a few routine eye exams and I am due for a dental cleaning etc.
I need to cut down on my alcohol consumption which will help with weight loss, saving money, and will help me for the transition back to the US where there won't always be super cheap and awesome beer and wine available. This was a bad habit to get into having lived in Germany the last 5+ years.
We have some pretty stringent savings goals. In addition to a maxed TSP and 2 roths (did this last night), we upped our vanguard index from 500 to 1k a month (just redid the auto withdrawal), and we are looking to cut spending enough to save at least another 1250 a month on top of that. We'll be moving this year and losing some COLA pay from being in Europe, plus we still have the looming possibility of DHs job loss in early 2016. So I have to save as much as possible now. To do this I am stopping all unnecessary purchases on amazon or anything clothing or house related. And I am going to be careful with the grocery budget too which should also help with weight loss. You know the whole eat less, spend less concept.
Ah, and my fun goal is to read at least 100 books this year. I just started using the library again. I finished an Adam Carolla book Not Taco Bell Material last night on the plane, and I'll be turning in 3 books today and picking up at least one Stacy London's the Truth About Style. Then I have to start making a list of all the things I want to read. I've been watching much less TV now, only watching it when I cook or clean really, and I'm feeling happier.

I keep typing up and deleting stuff because I don't really want to commit to doing things. Me too, sort of. I have things that I want to commit to. That sound really good, that get me excited. But, then I don't want to do them. I need to figure out why this is. I don't think I'm depressed or anything. Getting enough sleep..between 6.5 and 8 hours, eating habits have been good until Christmas break. I don't feel burned out.

Keep running, maybe get a little faster with it, and get back to doing yoga: hike a little more this year, it's become a once-a-year thing and I hate that: successfully pay for our trip and my class this spring, bank a crapload of cash starting in July for our house fund. Oh, and get an A in my class... I'm only taking one, so I have no excuses to keep me from getting that A

I was reading Jenny Crusie's blog. She's done with resolutions and is doing Intentions that make her feel good. Hmmmm, intentions. I find the road to Hell paved with them but I’m going to do this in 2015: 1. I intend to finish building my kids (ages 5 and will be 7 this summer) the sandbox. It’s currently a mud pit. Which they play in anyway. 2. Paint my daughter’s room. She’s been asking for pink and purple walls for a couple of years now. It’s time. 3. Fix the big bathroom plumbing. We’re leaking into the basement. And fix the kitchen sink properly instead of half assed. 4. Redirect the $700+ we have monthly from lack of land payments and day care into long term savings. I was going to do this in October but didn’t.

I may live vicariously through you. And, this year, I think I would like to knit a pair of socks, rather than being just a collector of sock yarn.

I've used both, but I mostly use my wheel: a Louet Julia. I'm thinking that when my kid(s) enter school I might celebrate by getting myself a Schacht Matchless, but those suckers are expensive, so maybe not. I made my own drop spindles from toy wheels and dowels when I started out. I only have a wheel because I have a friend who likes to spend money.
