Whenever I get down on myself usually the latest money drama from my friend pops up on Facebook.
It reminds me things could be worse and I need to stop being so down on myself.
It wouldn't have taken a lot for me to end up in a similar position. There but for the grace of god go I.

That is why I am thankful somewhat for some members of my family: they were given the same opportunities if not better ones.
Sometimes it is surreal to admit how close it got and if it wasn't for my mom or something that "it could have been me" and it wouldn't have taken much.
I just count my blessings and Thank God!

He called you so you'd take him to the ER?

He called you so you'd take him to the ER? Yeah, I'm a bit confused about the ER trip as well. I'm guessing he doesn't have medical insurance, but surely the ER would not see him unless he was experiencing an actual emergency? Or, maybe I'm wrong.

I'm surprised it didn't include a furry or a bronie.

My half brother called me yesterday afternoon. I haven't seen or talked to him in 15 years, and he was only 10 last time I saw him. He's been less than 30 miles away for most of the last year and neither of us knew the other one was so close. We caught up a bit, and I took him to the ER to get straightened out, before he caught a bus back to my dad's house in the midwest. He's kind of a professional homeless guy. He gets paid to camp on remote hillsides for 9-10 months at a time to grow plants and collect fungus. I had a pretty weird childhood, but sometimes I forget, and the universe feels the need to remind me what life is like for those at the fringes of the economy. A little more hell raising in my teen years, a little less parental involvement from my mom, and that could have been me. The whole thing was surreal and a little trippy. Glad you got to end the year seeing a family member you'd lost touch with, that's cool. Hope whatever sent him to the ER wasn't too bad. I know it can feel a little sad to see someone you care about (or even once cared about) doing not as well as you wish for them, so I'm glad you got a positive feeling from it.

My half-sister and I couldn't be more different. Overall, she's probably been given more than me and squandered most of it. Even though we lived in the same house for several years (before she ran away at 17), we had very different perspectives on our upbringing and different goals in our lives. I'm actually surprised that she is still alive, because her alcoholism has wreaked havoc on her body. Me, I could take or leave it (alcohol), though I'll take a little bit tonight! Cheers! I sometimes wonder, though, if being a SAHM didn't contribute to it for her. God knows my kids make me want to drink sometimes, and I do seem to relate better to them after a glass of wine. Fortunately, my sister's 3 girls all turned out well: smart, hard-working, responsible and caring. That is despite my sister's and her 10-x worse husband's benders.

Most days I can't believe my family is actually real I hear ya. You love them but it's like they live on another planet (and you're glad you don't live there and really sad that they do.)
At the wedding reception of one of my druggie sisters, another druggie sister who was MOH got into some sort of drunken fight with another bridesmaid. The bridesmaid stabbed the MOH in the leg with a steak knife. Classy group.

You basically summed up the way I feel about my family on a regular basis. Also it is fun to visit them, as long as I don't have to live there. Classy bunch indeed

Maybe we should fix her up with Dark's brother?

How does she feel about really large dogs? I mean, huge. Thing looked like a cross between a wolf and a small bear. As long as he still has self-medication supplies, she won't care if their pet is a Grizzly.

people don't change there phone number? he has had your number, for 15 years and hasn't called until now?
I think I had at least 2 land line numbers when I lived with my parents. then moved out around age 25 and the land line number changed, then moved a few times after that and the land line number changes every time.
as for my cell number! I keep my cell in great shape and they have always worked. I am on my 4th cell phone and my number has changed at least twice.

Still have the same cell number from high school. I'm the only one that's ever had it, cuts down on the random calls.

Graduated a decade ago so I've had this number for at least 12 years, forgot if I got it at 15 but I know I had it when I got my license.

I remember the movie! that's why I was forced to change my cell phone for upgrades from analog to digital. but has your number changed over the years or can those from your High School just give you a call out of the blue?

About 4 yrs ago, I connected with my older brother, I hadn't seen or heard from in 25-30 yrs. It turned out we lived within 12 blocks of each other, but had never run in to one another. Over the following year, we were together almost daily. He had a heart attack and died, just after entering my apt one afternoon. This year, right before Christmas, I talked to his son on the phone. The last time I saw, or talked to him, he was about 6 yrs old. Now he almost 40. (His mom took him out of state, when she divorced my brother.) I'm so glad we got to share the last year of my bother's life together. Dark, I'm glad your brother knew he could come to you, even though your lives are vastly different. Nice!

They could call me out of the blue, but none have in the decade. They might have taken me running screaming out of the town we grew up in as an insult.

Funny! yea - it's possible! my High School girlfriend found me on ....don't laugh! my space years ago we kept in contact since then (she keeps me a secret from her husband) she mentioned that our High School is having...I mean had a reunion and asked if I was going. I was like NO I didn't know about it, wasn't invited.

I have no exes from HS so I don't have to worry about that! Several are friends with me on FB, but I haven't spoken to any of them on there in years either. Even boycotted my 10 year reunion this year. It was too lame not to.
