But is it really? I do remember about some posters who were stalked IRL by someone who knew (about) them from these boards. Just saying... And yes I do disclose some things here that I would never tell people off-line I was one of the posters who was stalked. Scared the shit out of me Ouch! How in the heck did that person know where to look? I don't recall you having given out explicit information about your whereabouts, MT. Of course, I don't pay a whole lot of attention to that sort of thing. Maybe, stalkers do - and collect the data? That's not only scary, it's downright pathological!

Just last night DH, DS and I sat at a bar for one beer and ordered a pizza to go.
In the time it took to get a pizza, the couple next to us at the bar had over shared the facts about his drinking problem, her use of pain medication and the fact her son was passed out in the outdoor smoking section because he had been huffing.
WOW! Just wow! They invited us back to their place for karaoke, too bad we had to decline.

I agree completely. I have read some horrific stories about peeps that got stalked IRL by someone that knew them from a message board. Do you know of stalking that happened directly in relation to 'these' boards? - Yikes! The reason I think it's different is cause I can make idle conversation easier on here, not because I think you should tell your life story. I always worry that someone I know IRL is one of the other posters on a message board, and I don't know it. That, combined with the fact that POM could be a mass murderer ... helps keep me in check. But I too disclose some things here, I would never tell people off-line. Hopefully I'm not too offensive. Hey now. Just because I stored some bodies in my freezer for you doesn't make me a mass murderer. It makes me an accessory to mass murder! I've always thought you accessorize well!

so you think these guys are not striking up a conversation to get your number? ok that would be my first guess. then I would say these guys are having a life problem or situation and really need to vent this out and you have a warm easy going appearance they feel comfortable with talking about. trying to get some guidance that may help?

I also had a stalker on the old boards. They were pretty creepy. They sort of figured out my approximate location and a few other details, because in the beginning, I shared more personal information about myself and proximity than I should have.
I did report them several times when they became a problem on the boards with their trolling, but a couple of the mods refused to believe me. I also think one of the mods leaked my email to them - since I started to get emails as well. (How else would they get that info since I'd never posted it?).
When the old boards were shutting down, they followed me here and tried to cause me more grief. Thankfully, moonbeam took my concerns seriously and that person got banned after following me here and continuing their trolling/harassment.
My email address was also changed when I came here. Never heard from them again.

I was one of the posters who was stalked. Scared the shit out of me Ms. T. If you don't mind me asking how did they find you IRL and how did you get them to stop? To be honest, I am not sure. I am friends with a few people in fB and in real life that I have met in here. So it could have been that this person found one and then used that person to track me. this was in the old men board. Lmao! Old msn board...not old men board! Had to let it to because it cracked me up

I'm fairly certain neither was trying to get my number. One I figured out was a salesman when he came back later and asked if I owed money on my car. Apparently he was trying out "so what did you get for Christmas" as a seasonal opening line. "So did you have a nice Christmas" is perfectly appropriate but I think it's weird to ask a stranger other than a child what they got. I'm pretty sure the other one wasn't hitting on me... he was a foot shorter and significantly older. If he was using a story about two of his siblings recently dying of brain aneurysms as a pickup line he really needs to get out more. I think he was just hoping to have someone to talk to. When I didn't continue the conversation he went and talked to another man about cars.

People don't chat me up all that much, maybe it's because I'm a big guy *shrugs*.
It does happen once and a while, but not that often.

Well, I just brought DF to get his blood drawn. While I waited and obviously on my phone busy, lady sits down and starts talking loudly . When I looked up to give her the wtf look, I realized she was talking to me. Unreal. Told her to have a good day and went back to room where DF was.

Once you become old and unattractive and totally ignored by everyone... you will reminisce about these good old days. Or become one of those bothersome talkers. Sorry, JMA. It don't work that way. Take it from an old, gray-haired lady who gets this all the time. Grocery store, drug store, car wash, restaurants, you name it. I've even been tempted to look to see if someone hung a sign on my back! But you have the advantage of being female! Ugly, aging, old farts that are male attract ZERO attention. Little kids that I see when volunteering at the roller rink seem to like me a lot though.

I detest small talk and I hate random strangers talking to me, yet it happens everywhere I go. Last year I foolishly let my license expire so I had to actually go into the DMV to renew it rather than online, which is obviously the preferred method. The place was packed with the usual crazies and smellies. I had a magazine in my hands, my head down reading, and kept my sunglasses on and STILL some guy next to me talked to me incessantly the entire time. Lesson learned: I'll never let that thing expire again!

Weird, huh? I mean if she hadn't been shrieking like we were in a noisy bar instead of a hospital waiting room, I'd have never even looked up.

Pfft. Of course I do not tell my life's story to random strangers. That's what the rep at the Swanson's Hungry-Man customer service hotline is for. Ahhhh...Sheila's such a saint.
