I like that he has until December 26th to take it down. He can leave it up through Christmas.

I don't think one attention seeking idiot with bad taste = a war on Christmas.
If everyone would just ignore him and his tacky display it would just go away.

IDK, I kinda like it. It's a lot less creepy to me than say, a Nativity scene with Peanuts characters or the "love is" cartoon couple.
I'm kinda amazed that the front yards filled with all sorts of secular Christmas stuff along with a Creche is acceptable. If Jesus is OK with Flying Reindeer (magic), Elves (the Fae!), and some never dying old Fat Guy dressed in Red - you'd think Jesus could handle some Zombie's dressed up for the Holiday.

I'm unclear on the legal action. is his nativity scene larger than the allowed dimensions? why allow him to keep it up until after the holiday, except to make a point of some sort?

Chiver-from another article about its size though nothing about December 26.. "But just days after WXIX spoke to Dixon, Sycamore Township township ordered him to take it down or face legal action. Town officials claimed that Dixon was breaking the rules with a structure on the front side of his yard, and a display that took up more than 35 percent of the area." I just read in another article he received a second notice to remove the stuff from his lawn on December 18. He has 7 days to remove it. So it has to be gone by the morning of the 26th. Here is another picture of it. It does take up much of his front yard. More than 35%.

It makes sense that there is a period of time granted to comply with the order. Likely just a coincidence he put it up so the deadline is the day after Christmas.

ah okay. I only read the link in the OP and I don't think it said anything about the display size. thanks. and it makes sense about having time to comply. I just wonder if he would still be hearing about it if the dimensions were within bounds. something tells me yes, but from whatever private citizen was bent on the content and found a legal way to harass him via the cops. sent from my electronic distraction

It would probably be better received in the area of Georgia where they film Walking Dead.

I wonder if it was put up in October for Halloween, if there would have been an order to remove it.
Anyway.....the guy decorated for Christmas. Sort of...... Leave it up!

I wonder if it would have gotten ordered to be taken down if it was a "normal" Nativity scene... with everything else (size, distance from road, distance from home, et cetera) identical.
I'm thinking it likely that the City would have overlooked it then.

sounds like the guy does a Halloween display or runs a Haunted House?
Those aren't really Zombies - they're more skeletons. Are those skeletal sheep laying in the hay? I feel a "Squeee!! skeletal sheep!" coming on but I'm sure that's inappropriate so I'll just hint at the fact that I might have Squeee'd...
EDITED: watched the night time video of the display and, yep, Zombies. Pretty cool effect.
I'm guessing that the glowing Christ Child - is suppose to be some kind of Anti-Christ?
The up side down star is interesting. Not sure how the Satanist are gonna feel about that since I don't think they're waiting for an Anti-Christ.
OK, it's all kinda tacky-kitchy but I wouldn't think it's offensive. I'm sure gods have a sense of humor.

I guess I have a hard time understanding why some just like to p off others...getting under their skin for what ever reason... For some of faith the nativity scene can be something special...for what ever reason one wants to put on it ...to ridicule that I have to ask why ? { Please..leave my personal feelings out of it..actually this depicts that which is not of my faith..I just don't see the need or reason to purposely go and get under the skin of others...} ] When I read of these events I at times understand when some folks take personal unbridge and then do things against another that they normally wouldn't..thus suffering consequences true....the ones they take umbridge against sometimes suffering too...sometimes seriously...and sometimes when I read of these events in the media my response is not usually something I am proud of..usually goes along the lines of .." Gotcha ya *$#..

All ordinance's and law should be enforced all the time. Restriction on structure placement and size is quite common. So are timeframe allowances to remove non-conforming structures. Speculation as to why it was put up, will be as varied as the speculators themselves.

Some would say that his display itself is an assault on Christmas.
The upshot, however, is that if he made it smaller he would have no problem. If it were the proper distance from the street he would have no problem. If he put it in his backyard he would have no problem. (Of course, doing that would not allow him to be as much of a neighborhood irritant as he apparently wishes. Oh well.) Hardly an assault on Christmas by the town.
Good thing this was a local Fox affiliate station doing the story. It might have been treated a lot differently if it had been Faux News commentators. But still nice that we had Archie to sensationalize it beyond all reason.

If it was a sweet / normal nativity, it might have stayed up without anyone really noticing that it was too big, or just not caring.

So the strategy is just to make ordinances that don't allow anything and then when someone complains about anything they have the right to do make you stop it.

Exactly right, except there can't be any ordinances against guns, because that would just be silly.

I think ordinances like these were put on the books in the hopes people would voluntarily comply with them for the good of the community. I don't think the city probably has the money to have people patrol on a regular basis just to see that these ordinances are being complied with. I would agree that a complaint would probably have to occur to start the process of determining whether or not the display is in violation.

So very easy solution. Go get the crap off his property and dispose of it. Fine him for the costs. Or fine him for every day not in compliance. What the hell is wrong with people anyway? You want to live like trash? Move to where no one cares.

and who decides what is trash? serious question. I'd love to go yank all those "Mary in a bathtub" lawn ornaments in the neighborhood I lived in back in college, but somehow I feel like I'd get some resistance. sent from my electronic distraction
