"and it really wasn't very hard" Archie, you're probably closer to right about how this happened than one might think.
Some eleven year old kid in Kansas decided there's no use waiting for the government to complete a raft of multi-million dollar "studies" and an infinite number of "investigations" so she did it on her own. What pushed her over the edge was.....well, you know.

Eh, it's not like anyone in North Korea noticed the Internet was down.... My guess is one of the higher ups decided to check the spread/line on some sporting event so he could get his bets in and thought it was odd but not out of the ordinary that he couldn't get 'on line'. He probably waited an hour, tried again, still no luck, waited another hour and when he still couldn't get a connection (and therefore his bets in) - he started making phone calls... and THAT's when North Korea realized their internet was down...
Doesn't North Korea use hackers in other countries that have an actual infrastructure and better access to the Interwebs??
ADDED: Does North Korea even have enough electricty to support Internet use??

Aren't the hackers in China? Maybe the North Korean hackers took out their own Internet to quell the story?

Think its a dos attack.........and there must be lots and lots of people who could do that.....and a queue of people who want to.
If it was from the US government you would think it would be something a bit more complicated.

Heard on the news this AM that the N Koreans have very limited access to the interwebs; they do have some kind of crack hacking team that works for the government that has access. And the very elite members of the party do.
For all the peons who can afford a computer, there is some kind of N Korean interweb they can access, but it has controlled content.
Probably like the single TV station they can access - which mostly shows footage of N Korean military parades.....
I think our attack strategy against them should be dropping a couple million I Pads into the country while we rig up wi fi access everyone can log onto for free - once the bazillion peons get wind of how the small number of crazy ass military leaders have been lying to them and starving them for years, there will be heads on spikes lining the route to the capital.
The regime only survives by keeping their peasents ignorant. Time to rip down the curtain and reveal the Great and Powerful Oz.
