Only difference here is that the courts and the media will give this story a pass since the perpetrators are members of a protected class (Muslims) Gee ed-I know I have seen quite a few stories from U.S. news agencies n the Internet about this child in California. Where are you looking?

I didn't say they won't report on it, I'm saying the tone will be different to avoid "offending" these Pakistani child abusers and their supporters on the left...

I distinctly recall reading you said the media (and courts) would give the story a pass. Let me look again. Here...here is where you said it. You said nothing at all about writing tone. A pass is not a tone in writing style. "Only difference here is that the courts and the media will give this story a pass since the perpetrators are members of a protected class (Muslims)" Yup you sure did ed. You said the media would give it a pass and nothing about sugarcoating the incident.

Where in your link does it say that this behavior was allowable Paul? It says the children were taken and protected...
... aren't you the one the other day that said let the sins of the father be visited on the child... and didn't you kind of gloss over my concern that lack of accountablity for parents could mask abusive situations... what's changed?

The Paki is the STEP father. On the topic of welfare, I said that we don't need to provide 25 years- a generation- of welfare to the parents, and then the children of irresponsible people. And yes- we do have to allow people to suffer the consequences of their mistakes-- it's the MAIN INCENTIVE they have to "stop touching the hot stove".

The media is going pretty easy on the muslims in this story. Nowhere in the story can you find the FACT that the Pakistani step-father who arranged this "marriage" is a muslim, nor any insight or background on the cultural reality that this is simply, as the New Jersey judge that defended the muslim wife-beating rapist said, "This man's interpretation of his religion". If this entire case ends up before a judge like that, Federal agents will have the poor girl Elian Gonzalezed to her "husband" in Pakistan. I wouldn't sweat it though. A 14 year old squirreled away in Pakistan somewhere could always appeal. Man, I LOVE CRUSHING the libs this week. You're so wrong lately it's just too damn easy.

I'd say we live in the kind of country that puts children into protective custody when they fear being married off at the age of 13. Not too shabby.
And arranged marriages are not exclusive to Muslims, which is why it's irrelevant.

Crushing the libs how? The system worked... the system that YOU SHUN... saved this girl, and protected her... i don't see how this is a win for you?
And no, we weren't discussing welfare, we were talking about compulsory education and i said we need some system of compulsory ed/parent accountability programs and one of the reasons i suggested was that bad parents with no oversite can abuse children... and you made a rather flip comment about how some kids will be the victims of pedophiles... like we can't stop all bad stuff from happening... (so apparently we shouldn't try...) ...
There are sects of Christians who also try to arrange marriages for teenage girls... haven't you heard?

And arranged marriages are not exclusive to Muslims, which is why it's irrelevant. It's hardly irrelevant. The slightest bit of curiosity on the part of a real journalist would have addressed it as one of the first questions after the status of the investigation, and the status of the missing girl. The natural question is, "Arranged marriage? For a 14 year old? What's that all about?" In this story, muslim is relevant because that's the faith tradition that the step father that arranged the marriage follows. I suppose you could touch on a little bit of the history of arranged marriages, and other cultures that still currently do things like that. But far from "irrelevant" the arranged marriage IS the story. It's the whole thing. And to fail to provide details is just a transparent attempt to be "culturally sensitive" to a group that either the reporter, the editors, or more likely-- both- feel is under undue scrutiny, suspicion, suffers from discrimination, etc. It's a way of editorially running cover for the muslim father-- and that's not objective reporting. Injecting oneself into the story and massaging the details to deliberately avoid presenting someone in a negative (or positive) light is not something a journalist is supposed to be doing.

I'm less concerned with how the state-run media will whitewash this than I am with the possibility that the family will shop this case to a left-wing judge who will allow them to sell this girl into slavery...

...and I find it odd that two posters would take issue with someone else being more concerned about the fate of a child than the fate of the news story about that child...

...and I find it odd that two posters would take issue with someone else being more concerned about the fate of a child than the fate of the news story about that child... Everything's gotta be about politics. I stayed away from the thread about the shooting in Germany because I spent the last two days being terrified it could be a friend. Even after finding out that a friend didn't die, I'll still stay away because I hate politicizing the deaths of our soldiers. I hate it. I didn't say a WORD about Loughner for a good week because I didn't want to jump to conclusions. I've still stayed largely silent on the subject. But whatever. The main part of this story is obviously that it was perpetrated by a Muslim (at least that's the important part to some people). Meanwhile there are 4 terrified children who got caught up in some sort of insanity that put them at risk. It's an awful situation and thank goodness our public services were there to take them out of harms way.

Threads have a way of deviating from the opening post. If you read page one you will find posts about circumcision, recommendations of cutting off weiners, political party opinion polls, passive-aggressiveness, school choice/vouchers, executions, genital mutilation, topless photos of posters, 9/11, and FLDS Mormons. And that was just in the first 29 posts.

Some of these people really ought to stay in their own countries where they can do whatever they like and not trouble us here. Why come to America if you want to drag the old country with you? Exactly. And I'll continue with my point made in several threads now that that we have to be on guard against those whose only motivation in coming here is to dillute our culture to advance their own in the global struggle against radical islam. Anyone is welcome to come and assimilate. But when you leave your islamist sh**hole of a country, don't bring with you the parts of your culture and tradition that make your country a sh**hole. And you don't come here to kidnap our children-- and that, btw, needs to be among the charges brought against this man, as well as child sex trafficing-- and whatever else a very creative, extremely aggressive prosecutor can come up with. We really need to more aggressively question people who come to our country, and then there need to be follow up interviews, and we need to keep very close tabs on people-- especially from islamist nations, and even nations like Britain, France, and Germany and eastern European countries where radical islamism is a big propblem.
