Yesterday we had the "Lone wolf Muslim terrorist" in Australia holding hostages in a candy/coffee shop holding the world "hostage" on the developing story line..... And yet, here in America, we had a obviously unstable former military personnel go on a shooting rampage in the Philadelphia suburbs killing his ex-wife than going on to the in laws, killing a total of six people. All this occurring during daylight hours yesterday, and yet the cable networks dwelled exclusively on Australia.
I believe we have finally reached a tipping point in America where we are way too worried about Muslim terrorism over our problems with mental illness here in America.
I honestly believe the shootings in America were vastly more important to us, than a supposed terrorist, who, since he did not immediately kill everyone, or blow up the building in the coffee house was not even a terrorist in our usual perspective of a terrorist.
Any thoughts?

Cable News is a business that sells viewers to advertisers. They do not make decisions based on "important to us".

Shooting events with multiple deaths in the U.S. are an all too common event. The same cannot be said for Australia.
Additionally the events were different. In Australia, it was a live, on-going hostage event with an uncertain outcome. In the Philadelphia area yesterday, it was a domestic dispute event with multiple fatalities in three separate locations with the majority killed before the dead were discovered.
Mental illness and gun ownership must be addressed in the U.S. Only when the majority of citizens say 'enough is enough' will that issue be seriously addressed.

Yep- a shooting rampage isn't really news in the USA anymore.
And in the end it ended up being just another criminal loser using Islam as an excuse.

I think most of America knew this was not a terrorist incident in Australia in the morning by the simple fact he had not killed anyone. Islamic Terrorists do have one immediate recognizable trait. They never wait to kill their captives in an situation where they are not in control. The killing is immediate, not 16 hours later

Things like the hostage situation in Australia seem scarier because they are more random and totally out of our control. The situation with the crazy ex killing off a bunch of family members is easier to dismiss, because the general public assumes that no one in their family would behave that way.

News plays to what sells & what sells is stuff that scares people. Random violence scares people, domestic disputes do not.

We live in a world where incompetence is the accepted norm, therefore mediocrity is considered greatness.
See. High school student makes 72 million during lunch at school. No one lifted a finger to vet it before the entire media structure ran/led with the story

yeah, if one were to try to illustrate how badly cable news sucks, that is probably your best choice.

Value Buy,
Who knows what you are having pulled. But if I don't watch cable news now why do you assume I never have?
And I don't recall saying I know all about FAUX News, just enough to know they give a nice professional BJ.
And DJ's over 65 comment...how true. My wife is an oncology nurse and has to put up with a constant barrage of FAUX from her elderly patients. They long for the days of White presidents, America uber alles, closeted gays, nobody with tattoos.

Whats wrong with cable news? I would start by noting that being called a news network does not confirm that is what you are. I really don't know of any actual "news" networks. They all seem, to some degree or another to be "opinion" networks owned, operated, controlled by individuals or groups with very transparent agendas, beliefs and motivations. In an ideal world only adults should watch them with the ability to filter the information with the knowledge that many things are specifically worded in a manner to convince the viewer that "their view" is the obviously right position and all others are clearly confused, evil, unpatriotic, uneducated, homophobic, socialistic. No these are not news networks and should be watched, listened to and repeated with that understanding. They have served as a strange sort of check and balance in some weird way because they love nothing more than to uncover the dirt on the opposition and that may be better than them all working together against the populace?

A guy killing his ex-wife and ex-MIL - meh, not my problem. I don't have an ex and the rest of my family is sane. But a crazy guy walking into a coffee shop and holding people hostage for hours ad shutting down part of the city, etc. That is intriguing. Plus - the video of those people running out of there when it all came to a head were compelling. I definitely heard about the guy in Doylestown, but I really didn't want to see pictures of bodies.
