www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/12/14/texas-cop-stun-gun-76-year-old_n_6324804.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopularA Texas cop is under investigation after using a stun gun on an elderly man he had stopped for an inspection sticker issue that the officer himself apparently didn't understand. Dashcam video from the incident posted by Raw Story, above, shows officer Nathanial Robinson, 23, pull over Pete Vasquez, 76, at Adam's Auto Mart in Victoria, Texas, as "Under Ground Kings" by Drake blares from the cruiser's radio.

First of all, they are on duty. And, we have cameras and recording, so they should NOT be blaring the stereo. I can't listen to whatever music I want to at work.
The car was EXEMPT from inspection. This is getting ridiculous.

This is getting ridiculous. Shooby, just because you cannot listen to the music you want to at work, does not mean everyone else cannot listen to their brand of music. We are not entirely "Socialist United States of America" quite yet. Maybe you should quit your job where you are being mistreated and go with a company that will let you listen to your favorite music.
As to the video, yes, this is 500% wrong. At least he did not yell I CANNOT BREATHE, and get shot.

If part of the job is to capture audio and video, then sorry, in that capacity, when pulling over for a stop, they should have to turn off the music. I can't listen to music at my job and even I could, I wouldn't as it would be a distraction. As for "quitting my job", my job is to focus on my job. So, I don't see why you had to make some personal type comment in that regard. Wow.

Seriously, can we discuss anything without it having to devolve into "oh you must be miserable in your job if you are criticizing what the OP is about" type personal comments?

This young officer wanted to show his authority to the old man, the old man is lucky he did not get shot.

There is a VERY small percentage of police (or gov workers, or teachers, or whatever) who should NOT be in the jobs they have. It is time internal departments/dicipline teams take action to get rid of the unsuitable.

I can listen to whatever I want at work. However, if I were to be blaring music during business hours, it's completely unprofessional. Just because I can do something, doesn't mean I should.
The cop is a douche.

Good effen grief. Keep this up and the only people who will go into police work are going to be the ones that we don't want on the force. What normal person in their right mind would sign up for this level of condemnation. I sure as hell wouldn't.
Neither would I. But you cannot deny that being a cop can be a power trip for a certain class of people and some should not even be considered.
I'm trying to figure out what possible reason could there be for this kind of manhandling for an expired sticker (which was trumped by the dealer's plate anyway). If this guy was not Hispanic, it is very likely he would have been ticketed. In this case, this is not a mistake but a power trip for the cop. A mistake would have been if he had just ticketed the guy, not realizing that the dealer's plate trumped the expired sticker.

Why do we never have threads on dumbass or incompetent actuaries or marketing specialists? I've yet to see a thread "Baker burns buns! He should be fired!" "Payroll clerk transposes numbers; several have paychecks delayed!" "Lawyer makes an ass of themselves in court" "Nurse doesn't change patient sheets" If any of those incompetents were involved in manhandling, tasing, or shooting a customer, we would see threads about them. And we probably have had threads about lawyers making an ass of themselves in court or elsewhere.

"Payroll clerk transposes numbers; several have paychecks delayed!" "Lawyer makes an ass of themselves in court" "Nurse doesn't change patient sheets" Because if I miss my numbers, the accounting department does execute me in the street. There's a certain expectation that comes with the people you work for- that is us, in case there are some cops here who are confused about who their boss is- provide you with arrest powers and the ability to use deadly force. Not only that, but this cop doesn't even know the law he is supposedly attempting to enforce! I've run into this before- dealing with an egomaniac cop who will not accept the fact he's wrong and leave me alone. I'd venture to guess that a good number of people have experienced this. Btw- if you're a dumbass marketing specialist, you don't keep your job and get a pension. Oh yea, because cops aren't human, don't make mistakes, a few bad ones condemn the entire cop population, and we are fixated on scrutinizing EVERYTHING THEY DO OR DON'T DO. It's amazing that KNOWING FULL WELL they're under scrutiny, there are still so many cops who are this stupid and arrogant.Good effen grief. Keep this up and the only people who will go into police work are going to be the ones that we don't want on the force. What normal person in their right mind would sign up for this level of condemnation. I sure as hell wouldn't. I think we're learning- pretty well beyond a doubt- that normal people don't go into police work. It takes a real special kind of jackass to want to drive around collecting money for the state. Honestly, if cops don't have anything better to do than run around making sure there are inspection stickers on every vehicle- they're over-staffed.

States have entire departments full of people collecting revenue for the government. They are not full of jackasses; they are full of normal, hardworking people. I don't have a problem with police officers enforcing vehicle regulations. Normally that just requires a civil discussion and possibly a ticket. I have a problem with this officer who seems to have moved onto manhandling a senior citizen without any physical provocation.

It's not merely that there was no physical provocation, the officer was actually WRONG about the necessity of the vehicle sticker. What is unacceptable to gun toting bag men for the state mafia is the slightest objection to their position. Somewhere along the line, cops are taught to never, ever, ever, ever, ever back down. Why it is so hard for cops to admit it when they've made a mistake, I'll never know.

A police officer's boss is the Chief of Police. Not Joe Schmoe on the street. Not you and not me. I don't think it's the police officers who are confused as to who their boss is.

And my point is there are scumbags that lie, bully, and harass people in departments full of people collecting revenue for the government who we don't highlight, publicly name, show pictures of, and condemn every person who works in that role. I'm sure there are. They aren't armed in the course of their employment. If one punches, manhandles, Tasers, shoots, or otherwise physically assaults a revenue payer, I'm sure it hits the media, publically naming and condemning them. Please note that in my own limited interactions with police officers, I have never had to deal with an abusive cop. They have all been professional and courteous. I believe that the vast majority of police officers are. The small percentage who are abusive should be disciplined, retrained, or removed from their jobs. Just as the scumbags that lie, bully, and harass people in any other job should be.
