That poor thing had an easy to see bullseye on him in the woods. Albino animals in the wild usually don't last too long due to their visibility.

That poor thing was a sitting duck in the woods. Too visbile. Albino animals in the wild usually don't last too long due to their visibility. I could not open the website, but I read an article yesterday about this deer. It stated this deer was rather old, something like six years old, and would probably not live another year in the wild, due to life expectancy rates. I do not know if that is true or not, but the article I read stated it was the people of the area that was upset with him, as the deer was considered as a "friend" of the area residents.

What I read was his plan was to sell the carcass- but after the backlash he started talking about food and donating it.
I am biased though- hunting is fine and deer are yummy- and one good one fills my freezer. But to shoot an animal for the points or the color is just wrong.
That guy is a freaking embarrassment- where is Ted Nugent when you need him?

DH doesn't hunt, but there are quite a few hunters in his extended family.
There is really no challenge in the taking of a white deer. I thought most hunters enjoy a true challenge?

Yes there was fun, comaradie, good times, and an adrenaline rush, but really no challenge from our prey.

Remember the old tale about the white buffalo being sacred to the Plains Tribes?

Yeah- I've been a party to these conversations before, I tend to agree. There's nothing special, or worth preserving in these animals, and in fact the opposite may be true. I also think that to a larger degree than any of us recognize the media is totally dominated by leftwing, anti-gun, anti-hunting, radical vegetarian and vegan nutjobs. I no longer read anything and try and take a position. Every time I read something now, the first question I ask isn't what really happened-- that there's a good chance the story is biased, or even completely fabricated is practically a given. Instead, I ask WHY is this news? Seriously- try that. Try asking why is this news? Why is this important? What difference does it make whether anyone reads or hears about this story, or any story? The answer you come up with, if you're honest- if you're a true observer is that the vast majority of news is really agenda-driven propaganda. It's an attempt at shaping a common (utterly insane) worldview where serious issues are overlooked- like surpassing $18 trillion in debt- to discuss whether an albino deer should or should not have been hunted. Keep running up the debt, and everything that moves is going to be endangered because people are still gonna have to eat when the dollar collapses.

He had his permit/license and it was all legal according to the local DNR. I don't see why he should get any grief for shooting the deer.

From shooting an albino deer to being $18 trillion in debt. Mind boggling.

No kidding right- the topic was about an asshole that shoots an animal that was liked by the neighborhood for no good reason. He didn't kill it for food, he killed it because he though he could mount it and make a buck- no pun intended
So I take it some of you support killing animals just for kicks?

In general I prefer you use what you killed as much as possible.
That being said if the buck was shot legally I don't consider it my business what the hunter does with it after it's dead.
We have an insane deer population here though to the point where they are harming other wildlife and destroying native flora. So it doesn't bother me if there is one less deer around here. Ablino or not.
If it was illegal to shoot the albino deer I can understand the outrage. But if it was deer season and the hunter had his license/permit then that deer is fair game just like the rest of them.

So I take it some of you support killing animals just for kicks? Well, if he gets his kicks while simultaneously culling the herd and promoting a healthier deer population- why not? This is another example of some weird agenda journalism. Legal kill. Nothing to see here. Moving on.
