Chris Rock Stopped Performing for Students Because Everything Offends Them There's plenty to dissect in Frank Rich's comprehensive interview with Chris Rock. The comedian covers everything from Bill Cosby (he hopes the allegations are false) to the federal bailout of the auto industry (he was against it).
I found Rock's remarks about why he no longer performs at college campuses most illuminating:
What do you make of the attempt to bar Bill Maher from speaking at Berkeley for his riff on Muslims?
Well, I love Bill, but I stopped playing colleges, and the reason is because they’re way too conservative.
In their political views?
Not in their political views — not like they’re voting Republican — but in their social views and their willingness not to offend anybody. Kids raised on a culture of “We’re not going to keep score in the game because we don’t want anybody to lose.” Or just ignoring race to a fault. You can’t say “the black kid over there.” No, it’s “the guy with the red shoes.” You can’t even be offensive on your way to being inoffensive. reason.com/blog/2014/12/01/chris-rock-stopped-performing-for-studen
True? I tend to agree..

What a shame. I like Chris Rock as a Comedian and actor - he's always been outspoken, and I respect his views. Too bad that college students (who are pretty much adults themselves) are being insulated and he's being squelched.

I like Chris Rock, but I don't think he's being "squelched". He made the decision not to play at colleges anymore, he wasn't told he's not allowed to play at them.

We now live in the world of the Perpetually Offended. Ya know, the difference isn't that people that were never offended before are suddenly offended. It's that they are finally feeling safe enough to tell offensive people that they are offensive. This is progress. I understand that the privileged folks don't appreciate losing their privilege but I'm really okay with that.

Shutting down conversations and not being willing to listen to those whose ideas might conflict with yours is not.

Do you think that's what is happening in the OP though?
When you look for entertainment do you go to things you like or things you don't? Chris Rock's humor is not working for the kids raised differently than he was. He can adjust or not.

Ok, revise my previous statement a bit. The privileged aren't use to being offended so they are whining about it big time ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png) @xmascookie that would answer your comment too. It is only those that are used to being privileged that try to shut down conversation. Those wanting change are happy to talk about it until the cows come home.

Followed by middle class white men, then the children and wives of rich white men followed by the children and wives of middle class white men. Then rich men of other colours followed by their children and wives. If you want a clue of who I'm talking about listen to who is doing the most crying about losing the morals and traditions "that this country was built on". You know, when blacks were not considered people, women could not vote, own property or be educated to become lawyers or doctors, children and wives were considered property so nothing was done about abusing them and it was totally acceptable to beat up gay men. Those good old days. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/angry.png)

I live in 2014 sooooo not sure what time you live in but whatever. What is that? Earlier in the thread you made a crack about everyone getting offended "these days". I put it in context and contrasted "these days" with past days. You then asked who the privileged are today and I explained not only who they are, the changes they don't like. Was that really too complicated for you to follow?
