Slow day today so I will post something about someone that bothering me. We've met about 15 years ago. She was 21 y/old vibrant, beautiful woman married to my friend. I had met him before I had met her on a business side so she was like 'my friend's wife'. They had been married for bit over a year, she was always proud of her looks and very material girl. Her mom once told him that 'you married my daughter for over a year and she got not one mink coat!'
We were shocked. Laughed. Thought it was kind of...joke. But it wasn't. It continued. So they had got divorce. No kids.
She married to a young businessman and I had not seen her for years. Heard they got divorce.
Not too long ago she came to work at my business plaza and we are communicating since than.
She is single mom with 7 y/old and refusing to meet anyone who is not filthy rich. Meaning ability to buy $600 shoes and $2K purses and mink coats etc. She works mediocre job for $15 and living with mom and her son. Refuses to meet anyone unless I can tell her he is up to her standards rich! She is 36 now, attractive, good daughter and mother, good friend...and totally screwed up in her head about relationships. Could that be something medical? I know her mom is a big part of it but it is her life and she doesn't afraid of her mother. But young woman agree to a lonely life (she is 37 now) if she is not going to find a millionaire? Nonsense or sickness?

I think in some cultures women feel like they are supposed to be taken care of. I've never felt that way. I can take care of myself. I've always felt it was easier to earn money to buy my own mink coat than wait for some man to do it for me.

That's been my attitude, but substitute "jewelry" for "mink coat".
I feel sorry for her. At some point there will be too many younger, prettier competitors and she'll run out of men. I suspect there are men who are OK with beautiful, high-maintenance wives who married them for financial security. I wouldn't want to marry one of them. (To be honest, they probably wouldn't want me, either- I'm definitely not in the right age bracket).

I agree with all but what I am thinking is she is young woman and no man in her life. So wishing for money beats wishing for sex and all? And then those money might never come (considering where she is working and her non-existent social life)...then what?

I have some friends who raised their standards a bit after divorcing - wanting only guys with professional jobs or who are attractive. I think that has more to do with them being happy single and needing a lot of inducement to jump in the ring again. If all you want from a guy is his ability to buy you stuff then it's probably better to stay single. Except that she's living with mom and working for "$15" (is that $15k/ year, or $15/hr?) and has a 7 yo son. I think she's looking for a meal ticket.

It's $15/hour. She is looking for a very good meal ticket. Like a huge!

If a very wealthy guy decides he's going to marry he can afford just about anything he wants. There are always women waiting to jump on that band wagon and a lot of them are in their early twenties. At 36, she's not going to be able to compete with that. If she thinks she can, she's dreaming. A wealthy guy who's looking for a legitimate relationship leading to marriage isn't going to want the gal working for $15/hr, either. He's looking for someone educated who will present well for him, as well as make him a good companion.

I was doing the accounting for a man who was well off, he owned a string of dry cleaners making a good income. He was 42 and single, dated a lot, traveled with women but never married. He finally met the right woman, she was a teacher who was wealthy. She protected her wealth and he protected his income we would compute his taxes as single then with wife so she could pay her share of taxes. They had two baby girls who got nice trust funds from birth. He was totally delighted, his parents were very happy. He wouldn't have ever married a women who wasn't his equal financially. His parents were on his case for years, his sisters had been married 20 years. A wife needs to be more than a girl friend, families need to be comparable. A man like him needs a wife he can take home to meet his parents. He might date someone who was poor but they aren't for marriage, she was lucky to find two who would marry her but they didn't fall for spending a fortune on her.

Who the hell wears mink coats in this day and age? I agree. Mink, human. Unless you are in a large city with a furier to help care for them, furs are a hassle and expensive to keep up. I got several nice lambskin coats from my DM and one I know is a fur but don't know what. All need cleaning so they are put away. I do have friends who sashay around in them at church mostly. Jewels loose value as soon a they are taken out of the store.

And DH was warned that I didn't want furs or diamonds...I wanted real estate. He was warned.
ETA: And had this board been around I probably would have changed "real estate" for "a chunk of the S&P 500"; so much less work, LOL!

Sadly, at 36 she has aged out of prime trophy wife territory and having a child likely narrows her opportunities even further. She might have a chance if she were well educated and well employed with good social skills and was active in the right social circles to meet men in her target demographic. The plucky, smart aleck waitress who snags the rich guy with a heart of gold only happens in sappy movies.

The waitress thing could totally happen: Matt Daemon married a bar tender. However, if I were a 36yo single mom with a 7yo kid and had a millionaire wooing me, I would watch him like a hawk around my kid. Too many weirdos out there for my taste...

Well, if I had the kind of money that attracts gold-diggers all on it's own and the desire to attract one...I wouldn't be looking for a 36 year old with a 7 year old son. Think she's going to be single for awhile. I think 36 year old with a 60-70 year old o.k. Almost age appropriate. Guys that age with a 20s something appear to be senile.
The 7 year old is a major issue. That puts the guy at gramps age...and probably competition with his biological children's' children.
Inheritance nightmare...methinks he'll skip that headache!

It can happen. I lived next door to a woman with 5 kids. All by different baby daddies but she collected enough in child support to not even have to work. Her brother-in-law bought her the house she lived in so even her sister was smart enough to marry money. She's standing in line at Subway buying food for herself and her girlfriend, she's on her cell and her girlfriend is telling her about this guy she wants her to meet. Turns out the guy is beind her in the Subway line and realizes it's him that's being discussed! About 5 minutes later she has an engagement ring the size of Ft. Knox and he's bought a house for her complete with tennis court! Would bring her Starbucks in bed every morning because it was "so hard" for her, having 5 kids. PT Barnum was right.

The waitress thing could totally happen: Matt Daemon married a bartender. Warren Buffet is married to a former waitress. He and his first wife had an odd relationship in her last years; she was mostly off in CA working with a charity that took care of people with AIDS. She "nominated" a favorite waitress at a restaurant they'd frequented as a nice person to keep him company. His wife, Susan, died of cancer a few years ago and he quietly married the waitress.
It's crazy to have "marry a millionaire" as your financial plan, though. I have a baby granddaughter and, no matter what she wants to do with her life, I told her parents I want her to have a way to support herself comfortably if there's no man in her life.

Time for loony to go undercover for aYM exclusive We need info on the 2 divorces. Take her to lunch and chat her up. Give us the full report by Monday. If you read my post you would realize I KNOW all about why she divorced her husbands. I was a friend with one and acquaintance with another. And you think you were funny, huh?

I met a woman like that once...she basically told some poor guy (not as in money poor, though, he was probably middle class) that she "deserves better" than him or the life he could give her. She was very attractive, so probably felt she had to trade in those looks for a life of being taken care of by a rich guy.
I never found out what happened to her but I never really felt sorry for the guy she rejected. I think she saved him from a very miserable life of being married to a greedy, materialistic bitch

An attempt to fulfill the fantasy that he had been fed by advertising since birth?

When we lived in Germany (from 2009-2012) one of the things that really surprised me was how many women wore real fur coats. And it's a thriving business with the ice cream shops closing in the winter and a fur coat shop with new and used coats "pop up" in its place. I can't remember ever seeing something like that in the States.

Another Russian here, also not going to wear a fur coat, or a fur anything else.
At 37, unless this chick looks about 21, she's done in the serious arm candy department. It's not enough to be good-looking. There's too much competition out there, and then you add in plastic surgery, cosmetic injections and other treatments for the skin and hair. And having a child puts her at a liability with men who either don't want kids or don't want to be responsible for raising another man's kid.
She could be a good-time kinda gal, and meet some big spenders that way. But serious and long-term relationship that also pays her way? Not likely, unless the guy is much older, maybe widowed and misses the days of having a young 'un around.

Some will wear down coats and sheepskin, but we eat waterfowl and lamb in North America, and it would be a shame to have any waste. I've never heard of a minkburger or roast leg of fox with rosemary.

She should try her luck in Mexico or in some South American country?! Everybody is a millionaire there. You gotta pay a couple mills just for a bus ticket. that being taken care of I still wonder why would one want a mink coat?
