Cookbooks are your friend. You shouldn't need a consultant to learn freezer meals. Yes, they're selling their spices - that's the catch.
They'll make you think you have to use their spices to get the meal to turn out correctly, and be tasty. They're still just pitching their product as as an in-home sale They're not there so much to train you on preparing meals, as they are on selling you their seasonings. to each their own....no you don't need a consultant to learn freezer meals, but it sure is a hell of a lot easier.....I like having someone tell me exactly how to put together 10 meals for my freezer (same concept as Let's Dish)....I like not having to look through cookbooks....I like having one comprehensive list of all the ingredients rather than putting together my own.... is there something wrong with buying Pampered Chef spices?

These aren't parties. They are sales events. That was my point. Of course, if I choose to attend a sales event with a cover charge, I would expect to pay it. But don't call it a "party."
you still aren't getting it.....when you show up for the freezer meal workshop, you've already purchased everything you need to make your meals. if you haven't said you want to do a freezer meal workshop you wouldn't be purchasing the spices and you wouldn't be at your consultant's house (or she at yours). it's not like you're invited for a party and it turns out to be a freezer meal workshop.

Freezer meals are awesome. My favorite way to prepare things. I've never done it in a group setting like that but there are a lot of websites with recipes and shopping lists. I was looking at one recently where she did 50 meals in one day. A month and a half of dinners. That would be so awesome.

Dayum, I could buy a lot of great stuff at our local Penzey's for $68! I'm not fond of "party plan" sales in general and pretty much avoid them. I did go to a couple of Silpada events before they were acquired by Avon and their prices got crazy (the founders of the company have since bought it back). I like Silpada designs.

Just because I don't feel the need to be in a room full of people when I brown hamburger doesn't mean I don't like to occasionally socialize. As for anonymous. I know several of the people from these boards in real life.

Most of my friends wouldn't even invite me to a cooking get together. They know how friggin dangerous I am in the kitchen. I've been know to set off smoke detector just boiling water and won't even go into the other more dangerous mishaps over the years.

I think you just drop things into a ziplock bag...even I can do that without setting an oven on fire like I did last year.
It's what happens when you take the bag from the freezer and then it into a slow cooker.

Fortunately our store carries a generic brand (Tone's) that comes in little tiny canisters, most priced at 99 cents. Small is better, anyway, so they don't get stale. I like some of Penzey's blends -Rogan Josh and Balti are both heavenly, and for $68 I could probably get 8 of different blends (small sizes) with a little money left over to go to the fancy designer olive oil store nearby! Probably not enough left to buy the white truffle-infused oil, though.

My point was that $68 seemed like a lot of money to spend on spices/spice mixes for this "party" (even though I'm sure you'd have leftovers to take home) and I'd rather choose my own.

$68 is a lot of $$$ for me to lay out for spices at one time. I doubt if I spend that in a year. But we don't use a lot of spices to cook.
By the way, there's tons of "practically new" Pampered Chef on the Facebook trading sites.

It seems like 10 people could put in $6 each and buy all the spices and then you could all share.
The purpose of the party is to get people cooking. If they like the recipes, they will return to buy more spices. If they feel more confident because of the recipes, they will try other things. A new cook who thinks they need all those stupid chotchkes to make meals are prime targets for Pampered Chef consultants.
If you look at those recipes - you will see they list all the tools needed:
Cutting Board/Flexible Cutting Mat Measure, Mix & Pour® or Manual Food Processor Measure-‐All® Cup or Easy Read Measuring Cups Measuring Spoon Set or Adjustable Measuring Spoons Garlic Peeler Garlic Slicer Veggie Wedger Utility Knife Scoop Loop™
If you can convince people to buy a few of these before hand - great. If they come to the party and you show them how easy it is to prep with your Veggie Wedger (whatever the hell that is) they might be inspired to buy.

A lot of their stuff is gimicky crap, but I do like their chopper and can opener. My SIL was a rep and gave me a bunch of stuff as wedding gifts. I don't think I would have paid $40 or whatever it is for a can opener.

I know - I was looking at those recipes and I'm all "knife, knife, knife, knife, dollar store, knife." You would be much, much, much, much better off to take a knife skills class and buy one high quality knife than you are to buy 10 different choppers and slicers and what not. Many years ago, I had a friend selling Pampered Chef I bought some stuff. I will say that my silicon scraper thing that I bought for $20, to replace my cheap-o one - I am still using it, 5 times a week, and sending it through the dishwasher. I bought some other crap too - all of which has "expired." I would buy the basics from Pampered Chef - probably not their knives, but if their spoons and what-not are as high quality as my scraper thingy - worth the extra bucks. But, I don't want to get on anyone's list, so I'm sure William's Sonoma has some super-expensive wooden spoons that are probably just as good.

I have done regular PC parties but hadn't heard of this spin. While I would really enjoy cooking with someone, I am a Penzey's and ethnic grocery ho and definitely don't need any more spices (pssst, need some granulated honey or methi seed?) Plus, I have a really tiny freezer and rarely use any canned/prepared products. It does sound like a great idea for folks who want home-cooked food on a tight schedule.

Garlic peeler, yeah, a bit crazy, but their press is better than any Other one I ever used. I love my little glass bowls and glass mixing bowls, my scraper... I can't use stoneware anymore, but I like a lot of their stuff and it tends to last Spices though, I doubt I'd use. I have to be careful what's in there... Speaking of which, 99 cent bottled spices would make me very nervous...
