I noticed that the thread had been moved. I didn't know where, either.

It says "off board". So I'm guessing, in typical YM fashion, someone said something they shouldn't have (not sure because I haven't followed it. Sorry Dark) and he asked for it to be pulled.
I'm sure someone will come along and fill in the blanks. I'm not sure if we lost Dark, or just his thread.

I enjoyed following it, but I do think it made too much personal information available. He can still update in other ways if he feels inclined. The totality of the thread isn't necessary.
ETA: I am happy if removing it protects his family and his business.

There is a thread below by mmhamm saying that the thread was removed at the request of the original poster.

I don't know why the thread was moved, but it's not hard to guess. Especially since I know there weren't any CoC violations.

The thing is, usually none of that is that difficult to find unless trusts are involved or something like that. Generally business licensing, corporate info, property records, court records, etc. are all online. And for the most part they're free, or the fee for searching is pretty minimal.
An instructor in a CPE class once said that he has no online footprint and no one would be able to find out anything about him with just his name and geographic location since he had a pretty common name. Within 20 minutes several of us in the class had found out where he lived, the names of his family, his corporate info, and found some traffic violations and other personal info. He had challenged us to find anything about him as part of the class to demonstrate that there is no longer any reasonable expectation of privacy if you do business with the government in any way.

I'm sorry to see the thread go. But I still think he needs to get the website going.

Speaking as Former Admin, A member who starts a thread, also has the privilege of requesting from a moderator that their thread be locked, or that their thread, and all posts made on it, be completely removed from the board, if they no longer want their discussion or anything they've said in-thread to be viewable.
If the thread becomes flammatory or hostile, a moderator has the discretion (usually after discussing with other moderators) whether or not to lock or completely remove it. When complete threads go "poof", it's usually by th request of the OP.

As my notice stated, the thread was moved off the boards at the request of the originator. Any poster can request a thread be removed. We don't ask a reason as it's none of our business. If a poster wants a thread removed, it will be removed - no questions asked. If reasons are given by the thread's initiator, said reasons will not be shared under any circumstances by any of us. If the person wants you to have that information, they will provide it for public viewing.

If the program that I used 10 years ago still worked and was available to me, I'd make both of your websites for free. I found it that fun and easy. It could be more complicated these days--I don't know, but I doubt it. . E-commerce is definitely a lot harder. I couldn't help with that.

The thread had to be pulled. Dark mentioned that he was selling the "Psycho Teddy" toy lineup during the holidays, and those bleach-your-pet kits from Hasbro. Some of the moms on the board got upset and called him a "baby killer". Things got very nasty very quickly. Proboards was willing to tolerate two defamation suits, but the third one for the same thread and they said 'no more'. mmhmm sold the publication rights for the thread to a Chinese firm and exported it to their database. She left one of those "thread has been moved due to such and such fake reason" disclaimers so that people wouldn't panic. Dark deleted his account but then changed his mind, recreated it, and posted a few thousand times on the Word Games threads to get back his original member rank. I think he also changed his name to "Hoser" or something. Altogether I'd say the issue was well-handled.

It was kinda weird when the dude said something like "I found out the name of his business, where the store is, where his wife works, and probably could find out where he lives".....he added the disclaimer of "not that I'd want to", but it didn't really make it any less weird.

Really ?? THIS is the weird part? Some people post way too much personal info on here, is it REALLY that weird some anyone could find them just like "that"?

I have lupus and am often confined to home - for my personal entertainment purposes, just to see what I could do, I have done background searches on people for fun. I may be smart but I am not THAT smart - it is absolutely amazing to the point of being frightening what information is available online and what one can put together from various sources.
Be careful on the information highway - be very careful out there.
