This was the only Christian member of Pakistan's government. He advocated repeal of the laws that call for the death of anyone who insults Islam (WTF??). He was apparently prepared to die for his beliefs...and the jihadists obliged him: ISLAMABAD – Militants gunned down the only Christian in Pakistan's government outside his widowed mother's home Wednesday, the second assassination in two months of a high-profile opponent of laws that impose the death penalty for insulting Islam. Shahbaz Bhatti was aware of the danger he faced, saying in a videotaped message that he had received death threats from al-Qaida and the Taliban. In it, the 42-year-old Roman Catholic said he was "ready to die" for the country's often persecuted Christian and other non-Muslim minorities. The slaying in Islamabad followed the killing of Salman Taseer, a liberal politician who was gunned down in the capital by one of his guards. Both men had campaigned to change blasphemy laws in Pakistan that impose the death penalty for insulting Islam and have been loudly defended by Islamist political parties. news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110302/ap_on_re_as/as_pakistan_24

Oh, and for the liberals who may have read the thread title backwards, I'll clarify: the Muslim militants did the killing, the Christian politician did the dying.

Being nice to these psychos is not working. Ed-- did you read about the Coptic Christian minister in Egypt that was murdered the other day?? Remember the Coptic Christians out in the streets with the protesters 2 weeks ago?? Could it be that these people just flat out HATE Christians-- no matter what? I'm sure not stretching out my neck in friendship anywhere near these nuts.

Six Coptic Christians were mudered in church on New Year's Eve. My church has a special connection to the Coptics in Egypt and Ethiopia (we are all Orthodox Christian), and they are being persecuted and massacred by Muslim militants. Then, here in America, we have people who want to understand the "very human motivations" of those who murder in the name of Islam. It's a sick world...I'm learning every day that's it's even worse than I feared...

Yeah, ed, it is scary, but at least we can identify the enemy. Better than lots of people can, even dear POTUS. I know not to be afraid of certain people some run and hide from, and to haul ass away from others some want to give group hugs to. Goodnight, ed.

I have never been accused of being a hypocrite so I'll say right now that I really don't have much sympathy. I vehemently oppose the encroachment of Islam here so I cannot condone the attempted spread of Christianity there. Some societies are vastly different and their coexistence must not be forced. It does show however the difference in our response to perceived encroachment. Currently that is.

Some of us realize that if you try to understand motivations, you may be able to avert future attacks. Are you suggesting that military programs specifically designed to discover (and then thwart) the motivations of terrorists are "sick"?

Actually, Christianity has been in North Africa since the time of Christ. It thrived for several centuries until GUESS WHO started persecuting Christians in the middle east and Northern Africa in the 7th century AD...

It thrived for several centuries until GUESS WHO started persecuting Christians in the middle east and Northern Africa in the 7th century AD... Guess who started warring with the Germanic pagans (Saxons) to convert them to Christianity? And let's not forget the peaceful conquest and religious conversion of the Incas, Aztecs and Mayans by Christian Spain! A happy lot those Incas, Aztecs and Mayans were to have Christianity forced upon them. Better that than dead I suppose.

Why do you hate Christians so much? Did you have Aztec ancestors?

I believe I was addressing P.I.'s quote about Islam in the 7th century. I just thought I would post something which happened 9 century's later (the conquest of the Americas) and a bit more current to the discussion.
Is it not true?

I would say 99:1 Muslim:Christian. The liberals will say there is no such thing as "in the name of Islam" terrorism...
