Webinars so I could spend my entire workday in my pajamas at home. That my old dog who can barely walk still has enough spirit to try to chase his tail. Cherry Garcia ice cream.

I'm grateful that my new hat fits (knit hats have a tendency to rise up off my head as time goes on - this one doesn't).
Even though I don't like it at times, I am thankful that I have a steady and fairly secure job.
I'm thankful that my boss is on vacation for a few days -things just are so less stressful when he isn't around.

That it's raining and warm enough that it won't all turn into ice or snow. That it's our slow time of the year at work so I could leave early. That I left work early enough to enjoy a walk in the rain while it's still daylight.

Today I learned that
1.) The city will run the leaf-sucking machines at least one more time.
2.) The waste-collectors contracted by the city will pick up bagged leaves at least two more times.
3.) If I fail to get the leaves to the curb by these dates, the city will still accept bagged leaves if I drive them to the composting center by the end of the month.
It was cold and windy today, so I was very glad to learn these things.
Now let's talk about the word "homely".
I have no doubt, based on the context in which the word was used, that the intended meaning was "at home" or "loved". Unfortunately, "homely" is generally understood to be a synonym for "ugly". It's an old-fashioned term. It might even be flagged as archaic if you look it up in a dictionary, but if you look it up, you might find its meaning to be very different than what was intended.
The way that the word was used this time made its intended meaning very clear. I just want to make sure that you don't mistake our silence for approval of how you have used it. Not saying anything could get you into a lot of trouble in the future.
For what it is worth, my Aunt Alma was the most homely person that I have ever met. She was painful to look at, but a joy to converse with. If someone had told me that she was "homely" and I'd never heard the term used before, I would have assumed that the term had something to do with the way that she touched people. It would have taken me years to figure out that the word had an entirely different meaning.

Unfortunately, haapai , "homely" is a word that's fallen into the Urban Dictionary or use a slang for unattractive, ugly, etc.
At least "homey" still means "cozy and inviting" when defining a dwelling or house.
Or people as being "homey" - warm and inviting.

Soo very thankful for: 1. Purchased jeans that look real nice on me. I'm a size 26. This is NOT an easy accomplishment. 2. Spent the morning and afternoon with DH. It's nice to have alone time with him. As much as I miss having little kids to cuddle with, it's nice to be able to go out on our own. How cool is this? My 1,000th post and it's one I happy about !

I'm thankful to have the means to buy all of the fur faces treats today.
I'm thankful for the sounds of dogs happily munching on their new bones and stoned cats lurching around the house after their catnip filled mice.
I'm thankful for good friends.

I'm grateful that I work for a reputable company that looks out for and stands behind its employees. I'm grateful that I'm methodical and well trained enough to document everything. I'm grateful that we'll no longer be working with that PITA client. And as a bonus, I'm so grateful that it's Friday and I can get away from work for a couple of days.

But today I am grateful for: 1. My family that I am going to Thanksgiving with and have plans with for lots of activities in December. 2. Coffee, since I am up early waiting for the cable guy. 3. Cable guy who just called and is on his way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like this thread. I've been meaning to post on it, but I kept forgetting. 1. I am grateful that my brother called an ambulance when my Mom kept complaining of chest pain and that her recovery from a heart attack has gone well. 2. I am grateful for the kindness of other people. 3. I am grateful that my heat works and I can afford to use it.

Today I am grateful that, although DS was back in the ER yesterday, he is still with us! (A couple families in our community weren't so lucky, due to accidents.)
The snow is melting, & will continue to do so tomorrow.
We can afford a good meal at Thanksgiving! When DH & I were first married, things like turkeys & hams were a luxury.

I'm grateful that it didn't snow today so I had clear roads for my hour long trip into the next big city and back.
I'm grateful that I wasn't flattened by the speeding semi that blew past me and managed to overturn his truck and trailer full of gravel while navigating an s-curve.
I'm grateful to be back home!
